Wow, that full-circle hipster is insidious. Listen, I watched the first episode while randomly browsing Knowyourmeme, having got there from TVtropes on an unrelated topic. I had absolutely no input from other people when I started watching that episode, but I wouldn't have even heard of if it hadn't become popular, and I'm thankful for that. So if you want to be miserable refusing to partake in anything that other people like, be my guest.

Also, complaining about hipster-style formal Victorian wear is a bit rich when your avatar is a shark wearing formal victorian wear.

And you raise a valid point. Liking things that are good is completely valid, and in all truth, the way things should be done, but I think its worth mentioning that this isn't the way things are done.

Ahem. As a member of the Noble Order of /co/mrades, I looked into the matter personally.

It wasn't for me. It wasn't awful... but everything was exactly as I expected it. I just don't like stuff that I can predict the ending to. Sure, subversion-free stuff may be great for some people (perhaps who get it too often), but it just seemed a little flat to me.

During the great mod meltdown, though, I sided with the ponies. Free speech and whatnot. Gotta defend stuff that you don't like if you think free speech is important.

I saw a pic on Memebase that got me curious, so I looked it up on YouTube, and I have now watched almost every episode. I say "almost" because I skipped the ones involving the "Cutie Mark Crusaders". They're boring, and they make me uncomfortable due to the... metaphorical nature of cutie marks.

But yeah, it's good quality fun. I wouldn't say that I'm "into it", though. I'm "into" Dexter, Firefly, Doctor Who, Bones and watching Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog for the hundredth time. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic just amuses me from time to time.

I would say that sacrificing practicality for fashion makes you a hipster. The reason people started to wear wrist watches over pocket watches was for reasons of practicality (what is worn on your wrist can't get lost in your jacket pocket).

Swanky or not it makes no practical sense to buy a pocket watch.

People don't tell me that there are people other there who think that HP is "good literature". The last few installments are bloated and say so little with so many pages. I have no clue as to why the page count nearly tripled by the fifth book while the big events can be summed up in a couple of paragraphs. The earlier books had to go through a lot of material to set up the surroundings of the world, so why the last three books over twice the length of the first four is beyond me.

I would say that sacrificing practicality for fashion makes you a hipster. The reason people started to wear wrist watches over pocket watches was for reasons of practicality (what is worn on your wrist can't get lost in your jacket pocket).

Wrist watches are a novelty, pocket watches are an accessory. It's more about fashion than practicality.

I'll just say this. It's a good show. No better than, well, think of a show you kinda liked as a kid. About that good. The characters are well rounded, the setting is defined, and the stories have actual conflict (choosing between friends, lost children, not pillow fights, etc.).
However, the fact that they were able to do it with My Little Pony, MY LITTLE FUCKING PONY, is absolutely astounding. It's like a juggling bear. Even if you don't particularly like the act, it still amazes you that it's happening. Somebody made a decent show with My Little Pony.

While in general I agree with you, such as in the case of high fashion, I have to question the underlying statement here: practicality over aesthetics. Was the Mona Lisa practical? Did Shakespeare's plays assist in the industrial development of England? Now I realise it's a huge leap between the greatest works of art mankind has ever produced and an impratical watch, but it's the same principle.

Practicality serves suprisingly little purpose in modern life, given how cushioned our lives are. I will not meet disaster if I have to reach into my pocket to check the time (most people just use the clocks on their phones now anyway).

Anyway, Rarity makes everything fabulous.

Ive been watching it since it came out, it is so awesome! Once you watch about 2 or 3 episodes you start caring what the ponies do and feel the lust for more ponies. I highly recommend it, even if you dont find it very good on the first episode you watch watch afew more to really see if you are one of us. For I didn't really see the appeal on the first episode i really start enjoying it when I stuck to it. Actually at the moment I don't even have any watch. I just use my phone which I keep in my pocket, oh dear. What was that you said about practicality? You wear a wristwatch? Those are so pointlessly impractical; you must be some sort of idiot hipster.

At the risk of causing a riot I would compare it to Twilight (not so much in content before you start sending me letters filled with flaming pony poop), in that it has a dedicated fanbase who are willing to roll their eyes and tell you you're missing something epic and should embrace your inner child (it also happens to be targetting young girls as its primary audience).

Personally after giving it a chance..I say chance, forced by my friend who loves kiddy things and adores tangled so much she tried to put the soundtrack on my phone without asking >_<. I found it to be crap but i'm happy to admit that that's down to the fact that I find these new things attempting to remind me of my childhood to corrupt my old memories and annoy me more than warm fuzzy nostalgia.

Not that I watched my little pony back then either, but I did have some half melted figures that my older sister didn't want that I found quite hilarious and had epic battles in the sandpit and everything, also not a big fan of cartoons in any form short of the 10 ish really good films and things from various places.

TLDR: Dedicated fanbase, not my thing, really just posting to combo break the pony love train.

My evening routine used to be work, little bit of gaming, episode of Dexter then bed. Since finishing all episodes of Dexter I've replaced it with MLP. Quite the contrast but the same amount of awesomeness!
