I don't buy for the gimmick. I buy for the games. I don't understand why fans who buy the console for the new Mario or Zelda complain about it being a gimmick.
lol Well I wouldn't go that far, but he does make some good points.Phoenix_XIII said:Yahtzee is the beacon of hope for all generations.captaincabbage said:I completely agree with two things Yahtzee said on the matter.
(paraphrased a bit)
1. "It is now apparent that motion controls are just something every console developer needs to get out of their system."
2. "Controllers have always been a perfectly good means to connect man to machine via way of thumb."
Yeah, it's pretty good. It's like the original Animal Crossing with a lot more stuff. Use the Gamecube Controller though, Wiimote and Nunchuck don't really feel right when playing it.starwarsgeek said:Today in Walmart, I noticed several "Nintendo Selects" that were $20. One of them was the Wii Animal Crossing. For someone interested in the series, would you recommend picking that up for a slashed price or waiting for the 3DS one to come out?Phoenix_XIII said:Animal Crossing was the single most addicting game I had. It's been out like a month. Give it time.Phoenix_XIII said:In that case....DarkRyter said:A console is its library.

-sigh-Kadoodle said:Problem with nintendo is that it keeps re-using old IP's or just making shitty casual games. I want to see a new IP. And I want actual effort to be put into it, so that a hardcore gamer could enjoy it.

It is a very kiddy game, you should take note, but it is still an addicting game to play, if you can get past that kiddy feel. Luckily I got into the franchise at a rather early age (8 or 7 I think?) and I've grown comfortable with it.
No offense but when it comes to gaming I consider myself as hardcore as anyone else and to put it bluntly Nintendo is the only company who's products I haven't had fail. They aren't built to regularly break. The Wii didn't alienate me, I bought one, just like 4 or 5 other "hardcore" gamers I know. So I really don't know what you mean when you use that term. You may not like them or understand their business plan although I agree with you that it has SO very little to do with the "hardcore" crowd. Wah. The "hardcore" is now a niche market anyway. Any good business is going to go where the money is. Still, it's hard to argue with Nintendo's success. (It's doubless that you will probably try however....)Phoenix_XIII said:I think it has failed. They've alienated the hardcore gamers with the Wii and the 3DS just sounds like a bad idea. Maybe it worked, I dunno. Yahtzee didn't seem too impressed with it and if modern cinema has proven anything in the last decade or two, 3D is a horrible idea that sacrifices quality for a cheap gimmick.Lukeje said:So... you think Nintendo's quality will begin to fall? Not that it has?Phoenix_XIII said:In my personal opinion, and you may object to this, is that when a gaming company starts doing bad, gimmicky things when they used to be so awesome, they're quality goes down. Sony and Microsoft decided to copy the Wii and Sony did it's horrible 3D idea, they lost some of my respect. A good company can see when something is a bad idea. Companies are getting greedy though and they're selling they're gaming souls for money.Lukeje said:The quality of the stuff Nintendo has been putting out is as good as it has ever been. Whether you think what they're putting out is `gimmicky' is a completely separate issue.
If I'm contradicting myself in any way, I apologize. I'm terrible at getting thoughts actually down in a way that they make sense.
