Poll: No Girls Allowed (I might actually be okay with that, unless the game sucks)

That's even more sexist then Mass Effect's "Only Lesbian, No Gays" rule.

Seriously, what is this, the fifties?
Yeah that has always pissed me off in the Mass Effect games and probably their largest fault. They even go the lengths of writing and recording gay romance options and putting it on the disk but they don't let players use any of that? Bullshit, I say.

As for Brink, yeah the lack of female models is a bit odd and no doubt frustrating but as you said it probably doesn't matter if the game is good. Team Fortress 2 and MW2 don't have any females and they're still crazy popular. Halo 3, Halo: Reach and Gears of War 3 have or look to have female models/voices which is interesting.

Besides, the developers gave a pretty good reason for why there are no woman. Basically adding another gender would have brung down the quantity and quality of the character customization.
That is the worst excuse I have ever heard, Oblivion has a great character customization and that allows you to design a character from either gender or several races. The developers should go back and put a little bit more work into it, it's not like adding the option to play as a female would be that taxing.

No women? Oh well thats gay. (See what I did there?)

Fingers crossed they add it before release, I always find it unusual when a game has only 1 gender in it. It would be like getting a Sandbox game with no civilians to run over. It just doesnt make sense.

If you think about it, being able to choose you character's gender is a far bigger customisation 'option' than, say, how far apart their eyes are or how long their neck is. I think the excuse is pretty weak, actually.

I don't really give a damn. The gameplay looks excellent so I'm sold regardless of character customisation.

We're talking about items of clothing and things. They had the choice between having (for example) 200 items of clothing that you can layer on top each other, or 70 items of clothing for each gender. I'm very happy they chose the former.

I think people misunderstand how much extra work has to go in to have two genders.

yea but too be perfectly honest i think that a fair majority of the gaming comunity would want to see lesbians do it rather then 2 sticks trying to make a fire

I doubt it's much harder to make a female character, make it a little more petite, put lumps on it's chest and put long hair on it's head, then get some female voice actor to talk.

Not putting a female in is just lazy.

Odd choice given how customisable the game is supposed to be, then again you don't see many FPS titles with female characters in them do you?

The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Unreal Tournament.

Oh, and Noone Lives Forever, but that was single player.

Well, gender is quite a big part of character customisation if you ask me, so yeah in games with character customisation I'd like both genres to be represented.

But I wonder why adding female models would bring the quality of Brink's character customisation down. Why wouldn't it work?

It's kind of odd that they wouldn't add women to Brink seeing as the Ark (the setting of Brink) is suposed to be one of the last citys on Earth, so as far as the fiction is concerned that is a little odd. I don't think it is game breaking but it doesn't really ring true either.
If humanity would really be in such a dire situation, I doubt you'd put such a viable asset as a woman in the line of fire.

Not to objectify them, but if your species is about to go extinct I think it's preeeeetty important to keep the ones that actually crank out babies safe and sound. One woman and 5 men isn't as good for population growth as 5 women and 1 man, ignoring things like gene distribution for a second.

Don't forget the Metroid Prime series starring everyone's favourite female bounty hunter Samus Aran. There's also Perfect Dark.

And as for shooters in general, there's also Wet, but that isn't a very good game. Uncharted 2's multi-player lets you play the female characters as well.

If I was experiencing the end of the world I am almost certain I wouldn't give a damn about the continuation of the species seeing as there are more urgent things to consider such as staying alive, I'm not saying that people woudln't reproduce after an end of the world scenario but it wouldn't be the only thing they would be thinking about also if women wanted to fight there wuld be no real way of stopping them short of locking them indoors.

I'm not saying that this definately isnt what splash damage is saying is the justification in the plot for why there are no women but if it is I just think its kind of a lame excuse.

I can't wait to play Brink. It looks awesome, but I was disheartened to hear there will be no playable female characters. As a chick, I prefer my avatars be chicks, but whatever, if the game is as good as I hope it is then it won't matter much. Besides, the developers gave a pretty good reason for why there are no woman. Basically adding another gender would have brung down the quantity and quality of the character customization. What do you think? Would you rather have the option for both genders at the cost of weaker character customization or the greater customization?
What do you mean lower the ability for character customization?

Well, if there's supposed to be an in depth character customisation, then not having a female option means they've fallen at the first hurdle for me. It's the most basic choice in customisation.

The fatalistic attitude hm? Not the first thing I'd go for, but it's a possibility.

I too hope they won't use that as a lame excuse, but apparently they're going for a more honest approach; it'd screw up the character creator. I still want an explanation why though.

It would've been cool to have had female characters, but honestly, if all I'm doing is shooting one guy then the next, it doesn't matter how they look, gender or otherwise.
