It remains today one of my favorite games, and I'm a pretty heavily current gen based gamer, so I would say no- it is not.
How about not making opinions on something you dont know anything about?Woodsey said:Haven't played it - but given how overrated the Mario and Zelda games are, I think I'd probably say yes if I had.
That would have been a great point in it's favor, but you could do the same thing in Barbie Horse Adventure. I know that came afterward, but it nullifies OoT's achievement.Jeronus said:It is one of the greatest games ever. Why? Because you could ride a horse across a 3D environment for the first time ever.

a well written story does not automatically make it an engaging and involving story.Katana314 said:So...basically you're completely discrediting every single story-based 2D game ever made. Not that it's THE best of everything that came before it, but here's a random example:Pyro Paul said:however what makes it iconic is the fact that it took a massive leap forward in visual technology, control technology, and video game story development. it is one of the first games which was not based on a movie and had a rather decent story line, progression, and involvement which drew the player in and kept them playing for hours.

Not only was that game a story that really requires your involvement and understanding (lest you be caught at a station check, or killed by terrorists on the train) but it was pretty unique. They made up the situation from square one, and it consists of a lot of elements. I'm not saying anything following the "Evil warlord takes over kingdom, must be defeated" thing is so cliche it's boring, but breaking away from trends always seems to make for a more interesting story.
Yeah, I don't mind the game, but I'm with the Overrated crowd.
You're wrong and your opinion is invalid.Woodsey said:How about taking your head out of your arse?Treefingers said:How about not making opinions on something you dont know anything about?Woodsey said:Haven't played it - but given how overrated the Mario and Zelda games are, I think I'd probably say yes if I had.
I made it perfectly clear I couldn't form a proper opinion, which is why I said I haven't played the game and why I haven't voted in the poll.
I merely guessed at what option I'd likely gravitate towards if I had played the game. Note that I said "I think I would say its overrated", not "yes it is overrated".
And having played Zelda games before (which were overrated, and not overtly dissimilar) I'm hardly pulling my predicted opinion out of my arse hole.
I agree that Mario 64 had a more lasting effect on the industry. Zelda hasnt really inspired much in the way of games, good as it might have been; I mean there's ...darksiders...Boneasse said:"People always say Ocarina of Time helped push forward the age of 3D-gaming, when in reality Super Mario 64 did that, and not Ocarina of Time."
No. No no no no. NO. NO NO NO.Cleril said:It doesn't have innovation nor does it have anything new about it.
Was Barbie a young warrior on a quest to save the world from an evil force? As a role playing/fantasy nerd, riding a horse while on a quest to save the world was beyond cool. I also would bet any kind of money that Barbie didn't do it half as good OoT.lacktheknack said:That would have been a great point in it's favor, but you could do the same thing in Barbie Horse Adventure. Tell your buddy that Ocarina of Time also paved the way for future dungeon ideas and puzzles used by practically 80% of the gaming industry. The game rightfully deserves to be a top ten if not best game of all time. It pioneered so many game ideas it would be ridiculous to undermine its impact. Super Mario 64 ONLY pushed 3-D graphics. It did nothing for gameplay. It just took the successful platforming formula from previous Mario games, and made it 3DBoneasse said:Of course, but when "some people" discuss these kinds of things, they often look at how a given game had an impact on the future.TheNamlessGuy said:It is nearly perfect, yes.
If they would remake it in todays graphics, it would be perfect
And the 3D-thing isn't the point, it's the gameplay!
Ocarina of Time had an impact on other Zelda games, but my buddy (as do others) believe that it was Super Mario 64 that had the bigger impact on future gaming.
