No, not entirely it is an amazing game but has clearly aged and has been passed by its successors Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.

My Flame blast Lv 4 destroys your Lv 3 Shield!

And I think its 2nd best, just behind Okami and just infront of Gunstar Heroes.

OoC was my first console Zelda, and I enjoyed the experience a lot. So in my opinion, it is not overrated.

It's one of my favorites, and it has to commended for moving Zelda into 3D so smoothly. But It's not the best of the Zelda games and its not my best or favorite game of all time. I play it now and there are some things outdated about it, things that have been improved in the zelda games after it (Majora's Mask still being my favorite)

But it's a GREAT game. Was when it came out and still is a great game if you can make yourself use an N64 controller again (its a learning curve) I liked it better when it was ported onto the Camecube disc and eventually onto the Wii virtual console. The biggest setback for me was the N64 controller for that game.

I still love it, and it deserves to have good reviews for what it did for the genre and the series...

But I do think there have been better games since it came out. It would be quite saddening to think that the past is the limit of our potential. That we can ONLY get close to being like Ocarina of Time. It deserves the praise, but I don't think it deserves the title of Best Zelda Game.

(they're all very similar and it's a very subjective question)

it was deffinatly better on the origional console, the origional platform outclassed any emulators because it was built for that

Eh, people are massive [sub]morons[/sub]suckers for nostalgia, willing to put something from yesteryear on a pedestal due to having fond memories of it, regardless of the fact that there have been much better things to come along in recent years.

Past Ocarina of Time, Windwaker was the only Zelda game to not suck... And Twilight Princess is just an overrated copy of Ocarina of Time...

Also Midna is way overrated... Actually, this whole freaking series is overrated... But oh well...

For me I have a very simple system for how much I can tell if I enjoy a game:
If I can play through it again, and get near the same joy I got out of it the first time I played it.

For me only two games I have ever played fit this description and they are Zelda: OoT and FFVII. Everytime I replay these games, I get that same warm feeling I got when I first played them as a young child. Not just because of their fabulous stories but because of their abilities to immerse you in their story. This is why I can go back to these games time and time again and why I will never ever agree that OoT is overrated (or FFVII for that matter)

How did WW and TP surpass OoC? I'm truly curious to know.

I still consider it one of the best games ever made (of those I've played) and the best Zelda game by a mile. Majora's Mask takes 2nd. I never grow tired of going back and replaying it every couple months which I never do for any other game.

Overrated for sure.

That's not to say it's a bad game, but I don't see it as really pushing either the Zelda series or gaming as a whole forward as much as some people say. I also do think that a games greatness should be partially judged by it's ability to stand up over time, and OoT doesn't really hold up today in the way that other classic "best ever" choices like Mario 3, Mario World or Super Metroid do.

It was a great N64 game and probably one of the best games in the 32/64 bit era, but going beyond that is definitely going overboard in terms of praise.

No, Majora's Mask was way better.
In some ways, yes. In many ways even. But Majora's Mask is still just half of the same game housed in a different box.
art assets yes (but who really cares?) Core game-play of course (it's the same engine and back then engines worked in a very different way) story, awesomeness, puzzles, far better.
Wait... What? Did you just agree with me? I'm confused

I can't see how that makes it any different. Not for old games, old games are better on emulators than they can be on the original platform. It played smoothly, full screen, looked prettier, (not that it really matters for such an old game) and I used my gamepad. The only thing missing is not using the weird-ass N64 controller which in my eyes is a good thing.

well the gameplay was decent and deffinatly not to be sniffed at, it was the traditional zelda fromat of: find-first-set-of-magufins master sword find-second-set-of-maguffins final boss fight. which whilst not really being a bad thing in itself is the archetype for all zelda games and like repeted things feels kinda grinded and a little overdone. the hyrule feild sections and all the wandering around with it's (back then) rather nice looking landscapes being played out endlessly sucked as did the way in which half the items and fairy given powers were either unuseable or redundant by the end of the game.

some say the n64 controler felt weird, i dunno about that, it always handled perfectly well to me but then again i was brought up with it and fed on a deit of n64 games such as banjo-kazooie and super mario bros 64 so i'm not really qualified to comment due to bias. they could also try giving the characters some depth, in twilight princess and wind waker they gave link motivations such as kidnapped people and the stubmling upon of an massive EVIL power or a kidnapped sister. In ocarina of time he's basicly on his quest because a tree with a moustache told him to and then a princess with a ninja who did nothing to help apart from being plot centeral later on.

having said all of that there's tonnes to like about the game, the storyline was freakin awesome and puzzels were inventive, on the whole though they tend to come down to: kill enimes/put something on switch/move past obsticals/avoid guards to open door/get key/colect weapon/find heart peice. depite all thins the ways in which tehy are presented are fabulous and the settings are well made and well laid out, apart from the fucking water temple where putting one key in the wrong door could make your life a living hell.

besides the combat was good and the items were at least uselfull for long enough to make me care about having them, and some of them won't stop being usefull for a long time, fyi shooting an arrow into the sun after the water temple gets you the fire arrows and will be very helpfull later on. the enemies were chanenging in most cases and the non-uniform puzzels such as with the thrid goast in the forest temple were sublime.

in short play it yeah, it's got it's bad bits but these are relativly minor complaints once you play it and realize that they can be ignored in the face of it's many great bits. [/my attempt to sound proffesional]

well it prbably has to do with how i started gaming at an early age and by a fabulous coincidence was born the year the n64 came out, so i grew up with it and least on that controler, i guess it's like doing boring school work, i'm good with modern controllers because the weirder n64 made them seem easy
