Hi!

I'm currently working on an assignment and need to do some research on Call of Duty: Black Ops from a variety of different sources, and you are one of them!

I do NOT want this to turn in to a flame war, I just want you're honest opinions on the subject. I particulary would like to know your attitude to the game, and how you feel about the news coverage and advertisement of it - If that makes any sense at all.

Many thanks in advance!

EDIT: I don't know what's going on with the poll, but I can't fix it. Option 4: "I didn" is supposed to be "I didn't like it"...

I enjoyed it, the multi player was fun, the single player was crap. I don't think it deserves all the negative press it gets about it, but it won't do much good it is so big now they could not advertise it beyond a big poster saying new CoD and they would get millions of sales.

The single player got more fun the third time i played it. I think it's because I got used to the guns and what not from playing multiplayer so much.

Pros:

Not as much pandemonium as MW2
Single Player great fun
Vorkuda level was incredible
Perks are relatively balanced for the most part
Guns feel pretty good to use
It's COD - so runs smooth, controls well and feels good to play

Cons:

Spawns suck
SMGs are useless apart from 2 of them
Hit detection is atrocious
Lag spikes all the time
Host advantage far worse than in other COD games
'LOST CONNECTION TO HOST'
Second Chance
RC Cars
Corner Camping Culture
Ugly ass maps
The knifing
Huge maps
It makes me rage harder than any game I've ever played

It's ok, pretty much like every other CoD except Modern Warfare, the only one I feel that hit the nail perfectly on the head

It's okay. Not bad, but not that much fun either.

Even more than MW2?

It was ok.
Zombies were fun (I still think they have more options there but that's possibly just personal opinion) and the characters are amusing.
The game is quick and removing the killstreaks contribute to killstreaks thing was good.
I love theater mode, I think it works really well for a basic mode and is really fun and useful.

On the flip side spawns are terrible (better now but still), hit detection is off, especially with sniper rifles which have been nerfed. Badly. The maps aren't that great and reward camping all too often. Knifing is ridiculous, sometimes stabbing someone across a bloody room and sometimes missing someone standing right in front of you. Lack of dedicated servers contributes to every problem since lag becomes ridiculous (being host equals a huge boost in playing ability, when I'm host I'll suddenly be playing twice as well, it's ridiculous).

So yeah, it's an OK game just nothing amazing. The single player is cut and dry COD, more than a little ridiculous and trying to be epic (and failing...) but it's not terrible, just average.

I didn't enjoy it really. I'm a big fan of CoD from the first and till MW (which was the best one by far), but I felt it went very down-hill with MW2 and in particular Black Ops. I guess my main reason for thinking MW2 was meh and disliking BlOps is that they in MW proved what they were capable of, and then just pissed it away. It made me sad and disapointed, for a bunch of reasons I've mentioned too many times that I care to repeat myself...

As I haven't played the game all I can comment on is that I thought the 'There's a Soldier in All of Us' commercial was really clever.

i liked it but the single player had a really bad story and randomly jumps from year to year and the guns are not as smooth as they could have been but the zombie mode and the multiplayer make up for that

It was okay... but it was nothing special.

MP is a shambles, just a series of clusterfucks and people trying exert dominance over other people, while the people being dominatad say everything is a Hack, Glitch, laggy host, bullshit etc.

Balance is heavily lopsided. Some weapons just outperform every other option in all scenarios and a lot of the Maps play favourites depending on the game mode. It's designed for deathmatch and Point Control, all other game modes are tact on and poorly.

The unlock system in it was refreshing from the linear grind of old, but it still felt like someone slapped a Zynga game into the middle of an FPS. The previews hinted at deep customisation which was not the case (personal disappointment really).

Shooting mechanics are solid and fun. About the only commendable thing that doesn't need to change.

Graphics are just plane dated at this stage, but that's not an issue for me really.

Single Player is fun, but forgettable, feels like an after thought (or an excuse for the theme). Nothing new is offered, same exact scenarios take place just different textures. Treyarch or infward/sledgehammer need to step up their game next time round or just abandon SP altogether... its a joke at this stage really.

Zombies is again, just an afterthought... no lasting appeal for me.

I thought it was the best Call of Duty game to date, because of it's story and epic scripted events. The multiplayer was at it's finest, too.

Yep. Waay worse than MW2.

Thing is, in MW2 it was full of bullshit but at least it worked on a mechanical level. Black Ops infuriates me because half the time you're shooting at one spot and the game is registering you shooting somewhere else entirely. Drives me nuts!

I have funny clips in my file share of accidentally getting kills on dudes by shooting 4-5 feet to their left or right.

The campaign was shit, it was like 'No you do what I want you to do, when I want you to do it'.

The multiplayer is pretty cool I guess, I'm more of a Halo guy though

It was okay. The single player was what you'd expect from a Call of Duty game, and to be honest, I only played the multiplayer so I could make better emblems. I liked the emblems.

I enjoyed the game for the most part.
+ The single player was both fun and interesting - nothing revolutionary about the story but it was still creative.
+ The zombie mode was more fun than I thought it'd be, especially with JFK and Nixon as characters.
+ The Perks feel more balanced than in the other COD games.

All of my complaints come from the multiplayer

- The spawns seem to work against you, either spawning you away from the action, or spawning you in the middle of a fire fight with your back to the enemy.
- SMGs are outclassed by just about every other gun in the game, even the pistols do better than half the SMGs. I do love my Makerov though.
- The knif mechanic only seems to work when it feels like it - which is to say, it hardly ever works.

Campaign wasn't bad, despite having no replay value. The set pieces were good, but they made it have no replay value, the plot was good and the multiplayer was good.
