No, not in the slightest. American police officers, criminals and civilians kill American civilians all the type, so I don't see how that would function as a measure of evil.

It's funny, he might be dead, but ultimately he won. The US has lost it's core values (mostly talking about freedom here) and billions of dollars fighting the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, which must be fun during these harsh economic times.

So... good job?

Big news? Yes. The death of Bin Ladin should be great for morale all around. It improved mine anyway lol.

Biggest news since Hitler? Afraid not. Hitler was twice the bad guy Osama will would ever be have been.

Frankly not Hitler was responsible for millions of deaths the total deathtoll form WWII (what he started) was upto 50 million maybe even more.

Osama did "only" kill a few thousand people with a terrorist attack. Granted it was the biggest terrorist attack in history so far. But still the total death toll is only a very small fraction of what Hitler did.

I do not think its big news the guy has been hiding for 10 years I am suprised people actually still care.

No, and nothing has changed.

He's just dead who cares.
He was just a name.
Someone else will follow.

The death of Hitler was related to Germany surrendering (unless I'm remembering my history very wrong). Al Qaeda is not going to surrender because one fairly important figure was shot.

The fact that anyone can even try to compare them confuses me.

The Royal Wedding, jeez!

Anyway, in all seriousness, his death matters very little really. All he has done is run away for 10 years and send video messages about his beliefs to the public. Someone else will take his place as a terrorism figurehead, someone who may already be planning crimes now.

His death is certainly not a bad thing. It is absolutely justifiable and positive. But really, the guy was hardly inconspicuous, on constant dialysis, and...a Mastermind? Really? No one else in the realm of Muslim extremists has the savvy to plan out something so complicated and convoluted as, "Fly plane into building"? It's good news that he is dead, but I really don't think that this will be a game changer. Except politically. Politically, this should be very intriguing.

The middle east wars don't deserve such a title, its more the coalition hunting cowards who rely on Western decency to keep them alive.

Well rationally no, but emotionally yes. He was always the specter looming in the background after 9/11 and frankly it's a relief we don't have to have that thought anymore.

We can act like this really isn't truly important (and let's face it, in the grand scheme of things it isn't), but then again, we aren't RATIONAL beings, we're based off of belief and emotion, so this particular death is having a huge effect on a lot of people, and even myself. I had a huge amount of closure from this emotionally.

I'd say yes just because of that.

How can you compare six million Jews to a few tens of thousands (if that) of Americans who Bin Laden may or may not have been responsible for?

What this guy said.

You should put more thought in threads like these, for example: the enemy? What enemy? America's enemy? Enemy of democracy? Enemy of Christianity? Don't go generalizing everything please.

It would have been better if they captured Osama instead of killing him because you cant interrogate a corpse

I opted to comment instead, because I have something to say.

Yes, we got the man centrally responsible for the thing America has been obsessed with all these years while I was going through college. Good job. Problem!

This can't even count as a major victory! You found...a guy on the run. That's it! He had no country to lead, he had no army but a group of random people (It constitutes a 'rabble', in fact.), no super hidden doomsday whatevers. You caught one guy, a terrorist. Doesn't matter if he's a leader. Somebody always steps in.

Why do I find this unimportant? Several reasons. One, we really made ourselves look dumb while searching for this guy. You can shake a tree each day and nine terrorists come flying out of it, but we want The Guy because he organized That Thing. Sorry, but he's not Hitler-level. In fact, he's more embarassing than Saddam.

Actually, that was reason two right there. He didn't HAVE anything. We didn't STOP anything. We...accomplished...nothing. Osama bin Who-Cares is a self-important twat. (Was, excuse me.) All terrorists want to be noticed. You noticed THE HELL out of him. And then, you combed the desert for him, about as effectively as Spaceballs. Was he in a cave somewhere? NO! A palace! The man is essentially worthless, though. Diabolocial minds can be anywhere.

Best reason number three is the big one, I'm afraid. Terrorism cannot be pounded out this way. No matter how many sand castles you kick over, they're always there until you do something about the REASON they happen. It's like piracy, and you know how great a track record people have in handling that. (Hint: They did it poorly.)

I never liked this hunt. Yes, people are responsible and there is such a thing as justice, but this wasn't it. This was Yarble Yarble Yarble BLAM! Half of the government and army was poured into this, and finally you found your prize. Well, was it worth it? If you'd stopped Cobra from taking over the world, I'd be going "FUCK YEAH!", but this is very anti-climactic. People have been RIDICULOUS over this shit, so I can now only hope that it STOPS...but I know it won't. We never know when to quit.

Why is everyone comparing him to hitler? the OP did ask for a comarison to him but simply is the news SINCE hitlers death. as in Hitler was obviously the big story in the past and is Binladens death the biggest since then.

My answer to that is biggest story in what context? biggest news of a terrorist enemy being killed? Hmm well thats a yes because theres plenty of enemies of the free world still floating around but Osama was clearly the biggest terrorist leader. he wasnt a dictator that needs to meet a .50 slug, so he doesnt make it into a countries leader being killed and that would be a far bigger news story.

as for general news hes more page 2 material, and in my opinion it was the cuban missile crisis that was the biggest event since Hitler. consider just how close to a nuclear war that was.
