How do you be a Agnostic Athiest? You ponder the existence of God but think god doesn't exist?

In other words, "I don't think a deity exists, but I can't know for sure."

I find that very reasonable, actually.
This pretty much covers it. The way I see the words agnostic and atheism, they answer different questions.

I am an atheist because I do not answer the question "does a deity exist?" positively.

I am an agnostic because I cannot answer the question "Do you know a god exists/does not exist?" positively . Ie. I do not know if a deity exists or not. In addition, I believe it is impossible for anyone to ever actually know that a god exists/does not exist (it is a matter of having/not having faith), but not all agnostics of any kind subscribe to that.

But this thread is about Pastafarianism, so derail over and back to OP on my part. If you got additional questions about my personal beliefs, send me a PM or create a new thread and send me an invite via PM.

exactly! i mean, if you spot a flaw on someone elses beliefs then by all means challenge them on it, what i dont like is when people claim for a fact that their groundless beliefs are right and no-one else's are

You sir, are a Heretic. The one true goddess has made herself known unto us.
Her pink mane may make itself known to you one day, should you be able to
see it through her invisibleness.

Glory to her holy hooves.

If we ever get a fresh start, please dont´t bring your religion in any form.
I really believe we all would be better of without it.
How about not beeing a "eliteist athiests" as someone said. Or for that matter a fundametalist muslim, or a narrowminded christian. How about we all start by beeing humans.

We all bleed the same blood and draw the same air.

Depends on the day, I alternate between between being an agnostic atheist, a worshipper of the One True Goddess Haruhi and Pastafarianism. Really, depending on the mood I'm at.

But to be frank, if I thought there was any kind of afterlife, I'd prefer the Pastafarianist heaven.

But as it stands, it think it is a good parody that brings out and highlights many of the generally unspoken attributes of more traditional religions.

I don't see the point of agnosticism. I feel that, if there's so little evidence that you're limited to pondering the very existence of a god, you might as well go the whole way and take it for granted that it doesn't exist.

A similar example would be being agnostic about whether or not there is a four-poster bed in the room next to mine. Yes, I can never be sure without going in there and checking (and, realistically, not even then, but that's irrelevant), but to base my actions on the assumption that the bed could be there is totally pointless.

Naw, I'm the leader of the Systemonians.

I worship the system admin.

I made it several years ago when I got into a debate regarding what makes one religion more legitimate then another, and no I will not continue that here.

(it's not a serious religion, it's mainly just a gag joke I use.)

I'm not, and probably never will be. I just can't wrap my head around the concept of worshiping a spaghetti monster as a deity. If you want to be, go ahead, but don't be surprised when people laugh. I won't because I do take religion seriously even if it's one I don't practice or understand, but far too many don't.

I don't see the point of standalone agnosticism, because it just seems like indifference. however, agnostic atheism is alright, in my opinion. It's not particularly categorical, therefore not deeming everyone who disagrees incorrect by default.

We derailed the hell out of this thread, didn't we, guys?

Well yeh. If you claim that you are definetly 100% right then you are almost certainly wrong. That's pretty much a rule in all things...........except maybe mathematics (but that's totally not my area.)

EDIT: sorry, if i could just clear this up now, Pastafarianism is NOT a joke, it's a religion like any other! THATS THE WHOLE POINT! *sigh* just look it up on wiki
Of course it's a joke.

My views on it are that it was funny, and then it got old. Now it's just fucking stupid.

Me and someone else were talking about this just yesterday. Its 100% circular logic cause you can't prove a deity does exist and i can't prove a deity doesn't exist lol.

Also i didn't even bother the wikipedia link. Hate that site.
Then you're both agnostics. Because some do believe it possible to prove the existance of a deity, via prayer and personal revelation for example. It all depends on how you define 'knowledge'.

And it isn't circular logic. Agnostics of any kind do not say A, therefore B and B therefore A. Circular reasoning occurs where a number of links in a chain of reasoning are proposed, each following logically from the last, but together forming a loop: A implies B, B implies C, C implies A. If all you have to work with are A, B and C, and no way of linking them to something external to the loop, you can't prove or disprove any one of them.

Pastafarianism is NOT a joke

It's a parody of religion, specifically mocking how silly some religious beliefs seem. It's basically saying "Oh, okay, you believe in an invisible man who loves even the worst people in the world, and somehow listens to all out prayers? Well then, I believe in a flying spaghetti monster who promises us beer in heaven!"

It's an old joke. It used to be a little amusing a few years ago, for about a minute, but now it's just really annoying.
THERE! exactly what you just said! (the bit i bolded) thats exactly why pastafarianism is so profound and enlightening!

Yup. I don't think a thread about Pastafarianism has much topic to start with anyway though.

That's part of the joke: that deep down it is no more outrageous or unbelievable than any other religion. That's how it was designed to be, to show the world how believing in any silly thing can be made to sound serious business by labelling it a religion and how some truly ridiculous things are made possible when labelling something a religion or a matter of faith.

However "deep and meaningful" it is claimed that Pastafarianism represents, it is just another bandwagon for impressionable kids/students, who think they are edgy, cool and original to jump onto. However, I'll fight to death for Pastafarianism over Scientology any day
