I love playing as the bad guy, because most of the time, they are cooler, have better powers, and are complete badasses.
This is why I play badguys. They get to make the easier choices, do whatever the fuck they want, and then they get better powers.

In games where you are set as an evil character like Overlord, I find myself enjoying it, plus I always pretend like the humans have mistreated my minions for centuries and I am the Minion Civil Rights Movement, helping right the wrongs of the world.

But when moral choices are involved, the game just goes downhill.
Its always, GOOD, NEUTRAL, EVIL.
Thats not fair, maybe I do fuck people over, but for the right reasons. Am I evil?
When they finally improve on morality in games then I think I can rightfully decide what type of character I play best.

I like being evil more than being good, but the problem with them usually is that you end up having a dramatic scene and then your character chooses to become good anyway. If I wanted to be the good guy I would've chosen to be the good guy from the start.

No. I hate playing the villain. It's one of the problems of easily reaching immersion: I have serious difficulty playing any character so completely against my own morality. Anti-villains and anti-heroes, fine. I can deal with those, to a great extent.

City of Villains offers me some great opportunities to do both of those (I just pretend the flavor text doesn't have my exact motivations correct)...but even thinking about Westin motherfucking Phipps makes me sick. If the devs ever put in a system where you could kill NPCs, I'd push my way to the head of the line, teleport that son of a ***** to the middle of the bay, and have every single Thug under my command surround and Brawl him to a bloody pulp. If they threw him into a Mayhem mission, I would completely forget what I was doing and chase him around, shooting and laughing insanely.

<color=white>...

"Desperation, deprivation and despair are floating through the halls of Haven House now that everyone has heard about what you've done. I had a young mother bring her little children to me in tears.

'Oh, Mr. Phipps! My little Elsie and Sophia ate some of the food [my character] poisoned, and now they've gone blind! What will we do?'

Oh, I tell you, it took all the control I had to stop myself from laughing. But I put on my most sorrowful and sympathetic face for them, and took them all in. You've made this dreary charity case a simply delightful situation.

Now, whatever will I do with a desperate mother and her blind twin daughters? Hmmm... "

<color=white>...

<color=red>...must not think of...little blind children. Must think of...kittens .

<url=http://fuzzywuzzyblog.files.wordpress.com/2007/10/di-ram-kittens-on-tree031204.jpg>Kittens... *sigh*

...on the other hand, it looks like they've added souvenirs if you deliberately fail certain missions of his, so I'll keep that in mind when I go back.
City of Villains is just ridiculously evil.
Like the kind you'd see in comics...
oh... wait...
nevermind...

AT THE OP:
Of course I do, destruction is what we as humans marvel at.
The world would be a terrible place without videogames running that I could virtually torture citizens of a virtual city. *cough*Prototype/Infamous*cough*

Playing as the bad guy is just more fun generally. I mean come on, if you're a bad guy, someone annoys you just kill them. If you're a good guy and someone annoys you, you have to blithely skip away.

I just...can't really. Evil characters seem to come off as having no motivation, other than blind homicidal rage and sadism. I can't bring myself to be that, and even when I am supposed to be evil, I prefer to slowly kill them through work, rather than just outright destroy. Now if my evil character has some deeper motivation (I.E Alex Mercer or Niko Bellic), I can completely get behind that kind of evil. The evil that is built into the story is usually justifiable evil, the evil you choose just seems like a sadistic sociopath rampaging across a game area.

A purely evil protagonist is a nice change of pace from either: "We've got to saaaaavvvveeeee the wooorrrrrllllddddd..

Or: "Will you save the orphans from the burning orphanage, or will make it explode for extra shits and giggles?"

Sometimes it's just fun to play as an evil immoral asshole.
I swear officer, that orphanage attacked me first!
Hahahaha, true.

LFG?
depends, the handfork of . . .
Ah crap, it's been forever...

FOR PONY!!!

That's interesting, I enjoy being evil in every game where I have a choice, but playing Prototype I just couldn't play as Alex Mercer, it just didn't work for me.

I love it. Gaming's my break from reality. I can put my mind in a world where there are no moral rules, because nobody really gets hurt. Also, it's the only way I feel I can really have an impact on the game world.
When I save a village in a fantasy RPG from goblins, I don't get the feeling I reall accomplish anything, because I know in the back of my head that the goblins won't really attack the town until I accept the quest, and even if I fail, only I'll be dead, after that the town would still be there, safe and sound. The only way I can really affect it's fate is when I burn it to the ground myself.

I like Kain from Blood Omen, reasons:
1. I like Vampires
2. I like blood
3. I like magic swords
4. I like magic swords which eat souls
5. I like Vampires who eat blood
6. He has a sexy voice (shut up!)
7. If someone annoys him he kills them, something I would love to do in a lot of circumstances
(DIE OLD *****, That'll teach you to walk in the middle of the pavement dragging your stupid cart and walking at 0.0003 miles an hour!!!!)

Done!

Thing is, I have absolutely no interest in Prototype and I couldn't work out why until a few mintues ago.

It's because you play a total immoral asshole.

Now maybe I'm just a wuss, but every time a game makes me play an evil character I'm not immersed and not interested. I can't relate to some dick with no regard for life.
I had the same problem with Prototype, the complete lack of morals of the main character (and no real explanation why) made identifying with him impossible. The game itself still was relatively fun but this did take away any interest I had in the storyline and made everything I did seem pretty meaningless.

I do like to play as bad guys, but in games like Fallout, i like to be good so people won't kill me as much
On the other hand, playing as Alex Mercer is a blast, who knew it was so much fun to spike people into the sides of skyscrapers?
