I was excited when I first heard about it, but since then, my excitement has kinda died down. I think it's the title. When you hear Super Smash Bros, you feel ready to beat them up, PlayStation All Stars sounds like a cheesy kids game or something not as fun or gut pounding as it should...

Why would I be interested in an obvious smash bros. knock off with boring characters?

Just because a game is in the same genre as another doesn't make it a rip off, yes it is taking things from Smash Brothers but no more so then every other fighting game is taking from Street Fighter.

Also OP, if you are not a Playstation fan from the PS1 days to now I can understand why you would find the game to have a lackluster cast but for the people that stuck with Sony since the start it's pretty much the best roster they could ask for, even though there are some odd ones in there such as Donte (marketing reasons) and Big Daddy (also marketing reasons) there is overall some really good characters and the game does succeed in being a ceremony of PS history. Now if people could only try the game out for just more than one hour they would see how great of a game it is.
Dont get me wrong I have been gaming since the C64 so I have been around for the entirety of the Playstation brand existence and have played quite a lot of the games of the characters featuring in the cast and I like quite a few but they all feel very much creations of their own game they work well and fit well inside their game but in a mash up like this it just feels off they seem to lose a lot of their charm, for example I like the Uncharted games and enjoy the character of Nathan Drake but he really feels out of place in a game like this. Kratos fits well because hes a 2 dimensional character anyway and he just hits stuff but I am not really a fan of him Nariko also fits well and like I said is really the only one of the announced characters that I am even slightly interested in.

I have fond memories of Parappa (only the first game the 2nd was not great) but it was the catchy tunes and the whole package that stuck with me not Parappa himself. I think the problem is Sony has never really had a mascot as such let alone a slew of them to draw off like Nintendo and so it feels like they are scraping the barrel a bit also they all have different art styles while the majority of the ones in Nintendo do not they all fit together quite nicely and dont really clash not so here.

Characters I think of when I think of Sony are Crash Bandicoot and Lara Croft as these are the only two huge big hitters I think Sony ever had and the closest they ever got to a poster character for the brand neither of which appear here as they are no longer Playstation exclusive. Sure the others are mostly from established playstation franchises but I would say they are not iconic or at least not iconic of sony anyway for example if I said god of war you may think kratos but you wouldnt neccessariy strongly link that to sony even though you know they have all appeared exclusively on Sony consoles.

Its good you like the lineup though as I said that seems to be the weakest part for me if it was full of character icons I loved I would be much more likely to get this game i.e if they actually include Cloud Strife for example.

I played the beta and wasn't that impressed. It worked well it just wasn't... Fun. Plus you can't play local free for all, only 2v2 team matches.

For me its a definite but not immediate purchase, I'm interested in it, but it can wait. I'm currently playing Darksiders 2 which will take a while to beat, then Need for Speed: Most Wanted and AC3 are my next purchases.

Yeah, I get what you're saying, that's an argument that I hear a lot about the game, the characters don't clash well, they're too different, but you have to look at this from another perspective, this adds variety to the game. Take SSB for example, that game's characters do fit together but as I have read around the Internet some of them are clones of each other with really minor differences, also pretty much all of them are kid friendly and some are from the same franchises. PSABR's cast, on the other hand, features straight up murderers, Drake and Radec being fine examples of that, I can understand how someone would be put off on having characters like them fighting characters like Parappa or Sackboy.

One thing that I do think All Stars cast has over SSB's cast is character development, I doubt Mario, even while having games that span decades, has more personality than Cole McGrath or Kratos, even with him being a 2 dimensional character with only showing anger as emotion.

To be honest I haven't played with most of the characters featuring in All Stars, with the exception of Sir Daniel, Drake, Cole, Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank (even though I haven't actually owned a Jak or R&C game), hell I haven't even ever owned a fighting game but the beta won me over. If I wasn't such a fan of the PS brand I would probably be one of the people saying that the game was average because I would have only judged it from a short first impression.

I was kinda interested in it, but with Tekken Tag 2 being out now I'm probably gonna end up sticking with that for a while, especially with money being tight. I was kinda excited for the characters (Ratchet & Clank and Spike from Ape Escape), bit I guess I'll have to wait.

Went for maybe, played a little on the GamesCom and it seemed fine but not incredible.
But being able to play as Phoenix Wright and a Big Daddy somehow make it worth it.

I'm a PS3 owner and surprisingly not interested.
I'll maybe consider it if the reviews are good...
But otherwise... meh.

Wasnt interested at the start. But now I have to buy it because Sir Daniel Fortesque is in it. Though i might wait for some review, if its as unbalanced as hell as the beta make it look like, or its just a broken piece of crap, then i might just pass.

I honestly haven't a clue whether I should get this or not.

It looks like a lot of fun and it probably will be, but I really can't excited over it.

Maybe later when I heard how good it is first and if it's worth my time.

I played the beta and the first time I got into a match I was unimpressed but I spent some more time with it and found it fun after I got a hang of the controls so I might pick it up for Christmas.

I can get over the not as notable cast and the gameplay because they actually look good, but the arenas I've seen (with the exception of one) all look like a giant box with little to nothing inside of it. For someone who really dislikes the "No items on Final Destination" mindset, this is really troubling.

I'm not all too certain.

My friend claimed the beta was fun. According to him, although it looks like Smash it plays and feels quite differently.

I'm sure Sony did a lot of what they regarding the roster. Seems common sense that more varied character = more sales.

What I'm concerned is some of the stage design. I didn't like the way Hades (as in THE god of the underworld) standing idly by just watching the fight. He probably interferes the fight by randomly swinging his weapon at some point, but his presence feels awkward.

If there's one thing that in my opinion this games pulls off perfectly it's the stages, since they interact with the players.

Take the Hades stage for example, he doesn't just swing his weapon, he shapes the arena as he tries to hit the fighters, for example at one point he swings down his weapon to the far right which in turn makes a small crater that the players can go down to, then he does it on the far left which does the same thing, then he brings both his weapons down on the center of the stage bringing down platforms. He doesn't just stand idly after that either, eventually Patapons (you know from that PSP title) show up and actually fight Hades, at one point missing the spears they threw at him and falling on the fighters if they can't dodge them.

Dreamscape is another good one it's based off LittleBIGplanet and Buzz!, the stage starts off being completely empty but it starts filling up with stuff as if a player was building a level, then Buzz shows up and asks the fighters a question relating to the Playstation brand, each question is marked on a platform, the players that get the question right get rewarded the ones who don't punished.

I don't know where you got the idea that the stages were bad, if anything when the reviews come in it's going to be one of the game's high points.

Well, that's cool to know. I didn't mean to say stages were bad but the stage appeared to be lacking from what I've seen. But all I could back it up with is that I saw 5 minutes of youtube video footage. :/ My bad I suppose.

NO, because they completely missed the point of this game genre. This isn't a Play Station lineup at all, and I until Sony stops burying it's own franchises, I refuse to acknowledge they even attempted to make a game like this, because technically speaking, they didn't.

It's a really good game from the beta if more people gave it a chance they would see that it grows on them.

Dunno about that, there's no Crash, no Snake, no Tekken chars, no Abe. Out of the chars of the demo I ended up liking Parappa the more since his moves are the most fighting-game-like.

Some of the other ones are indeed cool to have but as someone who really got into games with ps1, this is sorta lackluster. It's also about the gameplay really, it's just...meh, boring, average. The novelty of playing with those childhood favorites will wear off eventually.
