Red: Charmander (Fire Type)
Gold: Cyndaquil (Fire Type)
Ruby: Torchic (Fire Type)
Platinum: Chimchar (Fire Type)

Seeing a pattern here? It's that they all rock and you know it

Also, since we're discussing it, the 2nd generation was, in my opinion, the best, since it was the last generation before the Pokemon designs began to go down the pan.
there must come a time when they'll have to stop adding new pokemon i mean come on nearly fivehundred jesus!
Its not the number of Pokemon I object to. It's the fact that they were running so low on inspiriation that they made a balloon Ghost-Type Pokemon! That just pissed me off massively, mostly because the original designs for Pokemon were (given the odd exception) animalistic in design, as opposed to a bleeding balloon.

Gen 1: Charmander all the way (as said before: He's a f*ckin' dragon!)
usually I'd play yellow though, in which case I'd use a butterfree on Brock (it learns confusion at level 10.)

Gen 2: Didn't play it much, but I think I went for cyindaquil.

Gen 3: Mud! Kip! Mud! Kip! etc.

Gen 4: hardly played (except briefly on a rom, but I quickly got bored.) I think I used Piplup.
to tell the truth never played the third generation much at all, apart from when i needed to trade pokemon to pal park and also get the coloured flutes!
1st and third generations were my favourites. The other two... Gold and Silver annoyed me a bit too much with that annoying morning/day/night cycle. Getting up early to catch pokemon...bah. By the time generation 4 came out, I was pretty much over it. Except for the occasional spin on Pokemon Platinum Enhanced. And I STILL say the original Dragon Warrior Monster games were better than pokemon ever was.

Generation 2 was a general update of the first with no drawbacks, in my opinion. The rest got pissy; why exactly does my Whale-thing need to learn to 'Surf', 'Waterfall', and 'Dive'?

I chose Bulbasaw for the first generation, then the little Cinderquill thing for second. It's a friggin' fire-echidna!

that is quite possibly the most awesome welcome I've ever seen given to someone. Hooray for obscure HL2 references!

Don't laugh at us because of the first gym. Ember might have a type disadvantage, but it actually does decent damage, and neither Geodude nor Onix are immune to burning.

If anything, laugh at us when we face Misty...

Chikorita, because I enjoyed the fact that the little tyke could eventually learn earthquake and that Typhlosion wasn't a cheating bastard (a flyer).

Never played anything past that.
i agree with you that it was hard with charmander as a starter in the red and blue but i was usually around level 15 when i took on brock at the first gym then i remembered that cerulen was a water gym.... shit!
Okay, I'll laugh at that too!

But honestly? Blastoise was probably the best one of the three in the original, because he could be effective against both enemy types, and Charizard being a flyer killed Venusaur's earthquake being effective. Meganium could do so in GSC, but I only remember picking him/her because of my love for Bulbasaur in the original.

You know, I think I'm going to start reading the pokemon manga again, and watch Scyther vs Bublasaur.

I only played the first two generations. First was probably the better.
I took either Charmandeer or Squirtle in red or blue. They turn into a dragon (charazard) and a tortoise with cannons on it's shoulders!(Blastoise)

I used todadile and whatever turned into blazeican (The fire one?) In gold.

Charmander in generation 1 (in generation 1, my strongest pokemon is in fact Charizard, devastating moves, great stats and looks cool)

Chikorita in generation 2 because Meganium's body slam is probably the only attack you need to win the game. (in generation 2, my strongest pokemon is Tyranitar because he looks cool, has some great attacks)

Mudkip in generation 3 because none of the others really looked that interesting (in generation 3, my strongest pokemon is Crobat, I don't know, I felt like I should train and only train zubat in this game :p )

Turtwig in generation 4 because puplip looked way too cute and I didn't like the monkey. (Not sure what my strongest one is, I'd say Arcanine because he's my highest leveled atm)

yeah, he's fast as hell too. favorite eevee evolution by far.
i like umbreon for sumreason!
he looked cool, but he was always worse stat wise. it annoys me how many evolutions they've tacked on to eevee, it was a cool gimmick at first, but now it just shows how they've run out of ideas.

And he is fighting Machamp in a darkened room, and opens the shutters enabling Bublasaur to perform Solarbeam? Maybe [http://www.mangavolume.com/index.php?serie=pokemon-adventures&chapter=pokemon-adventures-2&page_nr=1]. :D

You forgot to mention the friendly troll, George, and the bodies in the cellar. With Max and Cpt. Oblivious on the loose, we can't take any chances. He needs to be warned. The Escapist Greeting needs to be updated, we need to move with the times...

Anyway, OP, welcome to the site. Have a good stay :)

And on topic, I don't play Pokemon much now, but I used to always choose the Fire starter (whichever it was). However, nowadays I prefer to put it in a PC and instead try and get an entirely Eevolution composed team, made up of the following:

- Espeon
- Umbreon
- Jolteon
- Flareon
- Vaporeon
- Glaceon

Note that the list is in order from my favourite to my least favourite out of those Pokemon.
