All I remember about Digimon was some movie where this dude got sick and puked in some girl's hat, and he really liked her. And it was better than Pokemon.

Seriously.

Yeah.

PS: does anyone know what that movie was? I want to watch it again.

I admit I haven't seen the entirety of either of these shows, but I bet few of you have either. I watched the first season of Pokemon and the third season of Digimon, Digimon Tamers. Pokemon was entertaining. Digimon Tamers was one of the best kids' shows I've ever seen (in its original Japanese; they screwed that English dub up pretty bad). So I'm going with Digimon.

Plus, I like the idea of partnerships rather than one person owning tons of little animals. Much better thematic depth, I think, though the show also added a lot of that itself. Really good stuff.

...

The Digimon Movie.

It's not exactly a hard name to remember.

They only had the one.

Which was actually three... but in one...

Unlike Pokemon, which keeps making movies, but is yet to make a good one. (Alright, alright, maybe two of them were watchable)

I watched both as a kid and as an adult. Pokemon seemed to be just a string of overdramatic.. drama and stupid fluff the other times. It was par for the course, but still not really fufilling for me at any age.

I prefer Digimon because, even in spite of its target audience, it's incredibly mature. It almost seems like it was made for a different demographic altogether. And I'm not talking sexualized Digimon or a few hidden innuendos, but subject matter. Some of the arcs and moments in the episodes were extremely emotionally evocative, and they went over my head entirely when I was younger. Only when I went back and rewatched them when I was older did I understand. And I was impressed, even.

I'm not saying the Pokemon anime was BAD, really, it just was relatively par for the course. Which I guess they should be congratulated for, because that was where their sights were set. Digimon went on to impress, however, going above and beyond.

Of course, as far as the games go, there's no competition whatsoever. Pokemon wins by a long shot.

...actually, come to think of it, there were a few hidden innuendos in some parts of Digimon. Hrm.

I voted Digimon because I find all of its incarnations up until what I know of as the most recent (the one where its all in the real world and its about rival schools or something) much better than Pokemon.

I was pleasantly surprised that I was in the majority.

I prefer my pokemon with a lite balsamic and a nice glass of '62 chateau. Hmmm.....yes....I wonder what the poor people are doing today? /snobby English accent.

Sorry.

OT: Can I pick Magic instead? Watched a tiny bit of pokemon and don't know what digimon is. Also I was about 2 years too old.

POGS! Wow just remembered those! That was random.

Digimon, they actually realized that you needed to end an arc with a particular set of characters and either start up with another set of characters or end it all together.

As much as I like pokemon, the fact that the series hasn't ended.= makes it hard to analyze how good the series is. I enjoy digimon because although the series hasn't ended the season are at least broken up very nicely, in their own contained stories. I really enjoyed season 3 of digimon and re watch it every now and then. I stopped watching pokemon after May left(since I can't really tell seasons apart i go by heroines)

This debate can be solved very easily. Digimon has renamon. Pokemon does not.

Debate over. Case closed. Digimon wins hands down.

Oh wow, I was under the impression I was going to be ridiculed for saying I enjoyed Digimon more, but it seems pretty evenly split. Oh, I liked Pokemon as well (still play the games on occasion), but it never hooked me in the same way the first two series of Digimon did.

As far as animes go, I preferred Digimon more because it had more of a developed plot than pokemon, plus the Digimon characters were rather well fleshed out for the short 50 episode season they had. Pokemon relied more on cutsey characters and was trying to follow the game as close as possible. Digimon on the other hand didn't have to worry too much about a game storyline and had tons of characters that seemed more realistic than pokemon. (Heck the digimon talked, had complex emotions and thought processes, became hungry on a daily basis and actually had to go make poops. And when they digivolved it wasn't permanent and they could revert back.)

Pokemon was essentially a game first and an anime second, especially since Ash just comes off as an egotistical bastard most of the time. He constantly yells and often charges ahead without thinking about anything. Not only that but he does constantly have to get involved in everyone's business all the time. (I guess that's why I liked Brock more, since Brock was a more well-rounded character even though he didn't get a whole heck of a lot of screen time. His motives were clear, he set goals and did all he could to follow his dreams.) I don't know, I guess I'm just a sucker for an actual coherent plot line rather than a ton of random occurrence episodes.
yeah, sadly Digimon learned from that and became a game first and anime second when the card upgrade/equip/digivolve came into play after the first couple seasons. I stopped watching after that.
