I don't belong to any of the parties. On some matters I'm left-leaning, on others I tend to the right. It's the case for everyone, nobody is purely left or purely right.

On a side note I'd like to see parties disappear entirely. I feel it creates "Us VS Them" bickering in governments and causes more trouble than it's worth. Representatives are increasingly voting for their party instead of voting for the people that A: pay their salary and B: Put them in fucking office in the first place.
The only thing I have against that is what would it be replaced with?

I don't like parties, but they do kind of work.

Badly, but they work.

Holy shit Australian politics is boring. We're so centrist that the liberals are the 'right' and labour is the 'left', I don't know any other country that has as much similarities between their two big parties as we do. The GEC only made them more sheepish and if you remember the last election ads, well it was a joke. Literally every ad was just a smear campaign. Even America did a bit better.

I will give credit to Labour though, since they did insulate us a fair bit from the economic meltdown even if their unbelievable social conservatism is a bit worrying.
I will say that they were lucky to come into power after Howard and Costello. Say what you want about the liberal party, lord knows I have, but you have to admit what they did for the economy was fantastic. Personally though, I dislike the Labor government mainly because they can never decide on one thing or another, they're so fixated on appealing to the public in the most shallow ways possible that I cannot bring myself to even consider them. Liberals all the way in my opinion, just replace Abbot with Turnbull.

I choose the fine. I'll happily pay it if it means I get to live knowing that I didn't support any of those people.

Incidentally the fine for not voting is retarded.

I would've voted for Rudd without a doubt. Frankly, Gillard is inept at best. I just don't think I can bring myself to vote labour while she's leading them. At the same time, Liberal doesn't seem to be any good either. In the past few months I've heard little to nothing of policies, it's just baseless slander or gossip about politicians nowadays.

Ah, I'm torn between the Greens or a Donkey vote at the moment. It'd be nice if we could replace both the leaders.

If Tony Abbot wins the next election, I'm moving to Norway. Seriously. Or the US and work in our New York office.
If the media is to be believed, Julia's defeat is looking very likely. Frankly, with all the drama around the party, I can believe they've fallen out of favour with most Australians. She's highly unlikeable and people are still miffed about the 'kicking out the PM we voted for' thing. It still doesn't make an Abbot government any less horrifying to think about.

Soooo....bye?

The Liberals think that wireless can provide baseload internet... why would I vote for them? I tend to put Labor above Liberal, directly above all the crazy parties like Democratic Labor etc.

Would've voted Sex Party if they were running in my electorate. Next election if I party I like advocates fifth-gen nuclear I'll vote for them instead.

We don't vote for a leader, the members of the current government do. If you want to be mad about that blame the electoral system.

Apart from that, the Labor MPs decided that they would rather risk losing the election than put up with being bossed around instead of led. I find it had to blame them for that.

A candidate would be forced to, gasp, run on a platform describing their views and how they'll vote on issues! Holy shit, the horror!

Srs. They'd have no other choice. Mudslinging doesn't work well when you don't have a juggernaut political party doing it on your behalf.
Wouldn't work, though. Every single time any issue at all came up, everyone would have to sit around and argue over it for weeks or months.

You have an awful strange view of 'work', bro. From what I can see watching c-span and the news we simply get the right bickering with the left, the left bickering with the right, and five or six sane people sitting in the back playing Angry Birds because they'd just be pissing into the wind trying to talk some sense into their peers. That's anything but working.
That's what makes the news, yes, because when politicians aren't arguing with each other they aren't remotely interesting. Hell, even then we only get the edited highlights on the news.

...

A lot of people complain that Australian politicians are boring, which is true, but politicians only seem to be interesting when something has gone very wrong somewhere.

I would vote the Austrialan Sex party but some of there policies I can't see any good coming from.

"Immediate cessation of the use of drug sniffer dogs in public."
"Unwinding of excessive taxes on tobacco and alcohol."
"Legalisation of currently controlled substances for the purposes of religious observance."

Thats from there site. Not really the only reason but you get an idea.

Greens?

My family had a farm and in that area it's local news a few years ago was the greens pushing an anti mining to protect some trees or whatever the next town really need the mining but they stonewalled it and killed the town. They also say they are all for farming but then wanna ban certain exports/or to some places. From where I'm sitting it does suit my family.

Family First & One Nation I'm not even going to start on.

Liberals & Labour. I have been paying attendion from when Howard was in and they seem to run the country the same way. So when a vote came up I looked into the people I could choose to vote for and well I couldn't care Labour was a little infront so I vote Labour. Lesser of two evils?

They barely work, but at least we haven't turned into some fascist police state.

I don't like them, but the alternative isn't much better.
