"Hey look at this! Es-cah-pay!! I wonder what that means....it's funny, it's spelt just like the word Escape."

I laugh whenever anyone says "Wrath" with an a like in "cat" as opposed to the o in "otter".
You do know that 'wrath' and 'wroth' are two different words? Just check the dictionary for that one...

OT: Es-cay-pist. Like in, you know, escape.

I think that's how the OP pronounces it.

OP: Es-cay-pist is the correct way to say it.

My friend always giggles when I mention the Escapist, because I pronounce it "Es-cah-pist" while he pronounces it "Es-cay-pist".

What do you think is correct? (If neither, then please say how you say it)
It's "Es-cay-pist".

Because that's the correct pronunciation. Why? Well, I have a few reasons. First of all, it's the correct pronunciation, and second, "Es-cah-pist" is just stupid, and sounds like you're trying too hard to have some weird, alien accent.

Why not call it "Esh-cah-pist", then? Or "Aesh-cah-pisht"?

Es-cay-pist: I'm not posh!
Then again I can't really comment, I pronounce scone "scow-n" (scow sounding like snow) whereas everyone else I know pronounces it "scon", as in rhymes with gone.

Really? Odd...

It seems like 'eh-skay-pist' seems like it should be the right one... You don't es-kah-p from an angry bear, you eh-skay-p.
"eh-skay-pist" is the way his friend says it, so I do agree with you.

I don't think I've ever seen a poll so one-sided, but what can one expect?

Of course it's es-cay-pist. That's how the word is pronounced. Why would you say it any other way?
