Um, no. I don't think it's that big a deal.

Now I'm sure some people have been severely traumatised by actual rape...

(And I think I was technically raped last week... I have some sense of how traumatic it can be even when it's not all-out violent assault.)

But still, I don't go around worrying about someone using the word in such a different context.
Wait a minute...first off, let's establish one thing: Are you okay?
Second, do you need an angry mob for anything?
Third: No, seriously, a few of us are imaginative when it comes to torture.
Fourth: So, you're okay, right?

maybe not now, but rape will eventually be very widespread as casual slang, the way "gay" "retarded" and "bitchin" have

In conversation, people use the words that they think best communicate with the recipient. It's how language works.

The reason words in a language often lose a given meaning is because, let's be honest, not everyone is versed in every possible word that could be used for the given context. Thus, one resorts to using a word that they know that can still adequately communicate the message. Sure, one could say "I did so much better than my opponents," but they might not think that it contains the emotion they wish to signify.

Whether or not trivializing such an action should be avoided is still up for debate, but as it stands, words in and of themselves generally gain new connotations as time goes on regardless of authoritative action.

It seems unnecessary. I hear "Rolled", as in steamrolled, used in the same way, and it's far more logical and without all the unfortunate implications. So that's what I say. Of course, anyone who would describe a defeat as a rape probably isn't worth listening to anyway.

Yeah, really. I'm fine.
I mean, I was a bit messed up for about two days.

But like I said, it's one of those technicalities that's very difficult to really wrap your head around.
Like, you've sort of agreed to something but what ends up happening crosses a line that you wouldn't actually have agreed to if you had known it was going to happen in advance.

I guess I'm a little conflicted about it because I know he would have stopped sooner if I'd actually let him know he was doing something I hadn't agreed to.

Eh. The more I think about it the more confusing it gets.

Who cares it's a sound, if you're offended by a sound you might need to get out more. Be offended by the actual act vs a sound

WHERE ARE THE TWO POLLS I HAVE BEEN PROMISED??!!

But seriously, it totally depends on the context of how you are saying it. For the most part it is okay to use though.

Honestly: In describing something like "There was a rape in my town today, but the cops caught the guy", then yes.
It should never, EVER be used casually, or even as something positive. Because it's never a good thing.
There's no such thing as consensual rape after all.

should pear not be used in a casual manner? it has the same letters, and is the same length. a word is a word, and if i wanted i could say the word purple meant a fluffy rhinoceros. It is all just words.

Normally when I use the word 'rape' in a gaming context I'm usually using it to refer to myself, e.g. 'Gah! I just got raped by 50 zombies!'
I don't use it when I talk about other people I'm playing with, unless I'm talking about my friends, because I know they won't be offended by it.

Initially it made me feel uncomfortable because it seemed like a pretty extreme thing to say, not to mention slightly misogynistic. Although it can happen to men, it happens more commonly to women and a male is almost always the perpetrator. However, I didn't say anything because I didn't want to poop everyone's party, and either antagonise them or make them feel obliged to stop saying it just because I'm a girl, so I stopped caring.

I use this word a lot, in-game but also in casual conversations with my friends. However, I think there are situations where it is not appropriate - as with a lot of gaming terminology.

For example, explaining how you raped those guys to death last night with a SPAS might not be appropriate conversation for an airport.

Just sayin'.

I use rape all the time in this manner, so no I am not offended by it. I have even used raped to tell how well I have done on an exam.

Context context context. It always matters. IMO

"We totally raped the enemy team in that last game" is ok.
"Lets go rape their base" a little less ok.
"If you kill me again I'll rape your mum" not so ok (and rather pathetic).

In the end it is just words though. Calling an overwhelming vitory rape is about as ok (to me) as calling a teddy bear mohammed. Intent matters too.

There will always be dicks on the internet. Thing is that even if it is completely distasteful letting yourself be bothered by it doesn't do you any good; you get aggrevated and the snarly little dicks out there just continue spouting words such as rape. So the best solution is to board the

|^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^| |____
|.THE WHO GIVES A | | |'"""|"""\_ ,_
| __ FUCK TRUCK __ l ||__|__|__|)
| (@)(@)* * * *(@)(@) * * * * * | ( @)

and just ignore the twats. If they stop getting an audience for their babbling, they'll eventually stop talking. In the meanwhile you can still enjoy your sunday afternoon without getting upset.

Change that which you cannot accept but accept that which you cannot change.

Fun fact: I once had someone have a go at me for saying a bunch of mobs were raping me in WoW. I'm also female, and did once have a bad experience ¬¬.

It's all about context. If it's just said as part of slang, I don't care. Slang and conversations between friends/acquaintances is often melodramatic like that.

If a word bothers you so much, you may want to pick your social situations very carefully, and/or get some counselling to help you with your experiences.
You never know what you may overhear at any time during public conversations, online or offline.

I find it offensive, crude, and constantly spouted by lack-wits. To be fair, there are some who use terms such as this when they have the wit required for a clever statement if they so chose. And, of course, I do shrug it off. Still bothers me. The only time I think it is justified is talking about the act and crime.

I find all swearing offensive and only do so when I am under very sudden pressure and lose control. Then again, lots of grammar nonsense and curses bother me.

It is just the way I was brought up, I guess, and I wish I was a bit less sensitive about it.
