What's really sad is that burglers can sue you if they get hurt robbing your house. I think the judge tells them they're idiots, but the fact that they can sue make me angry.

Boom headshot! :p nah kidding...

It's all nice to say "defend yourself but don't use deadly force"

If i'm being awaken at 3am by strange noises in my house, you can bet i will arm myself, and in the state i'd be in (half-asleep/alert/nervous/who-the-fuck-is-in-my-house?) i'm not so sure my judgment would be as clear and valid as right now.I see someone in my house at3am with the slighest violent intentions (has a weapon/does not immediately run away) i can guaran-freakin-tee you that i'll hit to kill or at least break some things. If there is more than 1 burglar they already have advantage over you, i'd make it fair, also if you maim one, chances are his friends will run away pretty fast.

I love the tree-hugging stuff but frankly, what's the counter-offer? "Excuse me good sir, you are actually trespassing on private property and you are taking my things.Would you terribly mind not doing this please?"

After all the home invasions stuff where old people get beat up to death for a measly 40$, you can think you can afford to give them a chance, i don't.You come in my house unwarranted with bad intentions, it's open season on you my friend :)

It's fine to defend yourself, but using deadly force is excessive. If they can no longer fight back or are attempting to flee, then killing them is completely unnecessary.

But shouldn't he be charged with man-slaughter instead of murder?

(Polishes shotgun) Hmm?

This is why Indiana (like some of the more...conservative states) has the Castle Doctrine. I think a shot to the leg is a good enough defense. It won't likely kill them and they will still be there when the police arrive. Everyone wins. Except the burglar. Which is how it should be.

So let me get this straight. Someone tries to steal your shit and pretty much rob you. They're ready to beat the shit out of you in order to do so. You try and protect your property and you accidentally kill one of them. You should be punished for protecting your home? That's stupid to the highest degree.

Only if under serious health/life threat (or your relatives being in this position).
A normal burglary does not warrant killing in my opinion.

Shoot center mass to stop the threat.

If they die... they die. But you don't shoot to kill, you shoot to stop the threat.

Of course you should be able to use deadly force if someone breaks into your home! The way I see it is that the second someone decides to intrude upon someone else's home, they take their life into their own hands. A homeowner has a right to defend their home and property by whatever means they see fit and/or reasonable.

Charging a homeowner with murder for defending his property is ridiculous!

The 17-year old got what he deserved. He took the gamble, and he lost. That's the price of committing a crime.

I feel more sorry for the homeowner.

If the burglar struggles, force is nessecary
If the burgular tries to kill you, killing him is nessecary

Nessecary, I cannot spell

You have no way of determining an invader's intent until they carry it out. If someone breaks into my home, I reserve every right to shoot the bastard to death until they stop twitching.

It's called self defense. Simple.

And besides, once someone trespasses onto your property they relinquish all of thier rights to sue for anythign dome to them. If you are shot because you broke into someone's house, that is your own damn fault.
not everywhere around the world.

Perhaps if the burglar attacked him first it would be acceptable, but if he stabbed them as a reaction to them stealing from him, he should go to jail.

My gun licence teacher said the only think that makes a burglar shit his pants is the cocking of a gun.

If this doesn't run them off, you're probably doing them a favor.

Well if they attacked the guy with deadly force, it's just plain self defense.

If they were just stealing shit, that was way to much.
