They might be small, but damn are they fast.
Also, when the pilots look like these..

Shame that they look so...Asian. I don't like Asian mechs, too silly.

Mecha are worthless. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.195936-Probing-The-Inaccuracies-Mecha] In a realistic universe, they'd get smoked where they stood by an attack helicopter or even a main battle tank. In an unrealistic universe, there would have to be something of superior engineering than something that walks. They're absurd.
And yet the military is testing them, both exoskeletons and proper mechas. Sure not for combat, but still, they're most definitely not useless.

not useless but they'll definately only has niche role, i recommend you watch patlabor (don't immediately write it off because it has 'asian mechs' as you put it, bear with me) as the show more or less demonstrates why giant robots aren't really all they're cracked up to be, as opposed to than hyping up how awesome giant robots are, as well as demonstrating if they were actually made what they'd mostly be used for

Do MI suits from the Starship Troopers novel count?
Lasers & flamethrowers & nuclear missiles, oh my!
Considering that they're kinda the original mecha, then yes :D

OT: I've just got to go with the Mechwarrior mechs. There's something that I really find cool about them, wether it's the way they walk, or the way they fire their weapons (LRMs ftw!) there's just something thats terrifying and endearing about them.
On top of that I reckon they're really cool representations of a realistic future where we'd just make big running gun platforms instead of shiny, highly articulated super mechs like [insert generic anime here].

Also, Timberwolf. Freakin' Badass.

Um... I'm a Battletech fan. If you want agility, you don't go for something large. You go for a battle suit, a-la Elementals

Aside from that, I'll take me a... how was it that John Funk put it? Walking coffins?

If you've ever played Battletech, you know how right that statement is.

Missile carriers. That is all.

I'm a config B fan of the Timber Wolf (Gauss cannon, LRM 10, Large Pulse Laser, Small Pulse Laser, SRM 4) or config C fan (2 ER Large Lasers, Ultra AC/5, 2 LRM 15s, an ER Medium Laser, and an AMS).

Hehe.

I can't imagine how a show with Asian-style mechas would use said mechas for anything but flashy combat instead of the realistic military roles for mechas and exoskeletons, namely logistics and troop support. Main examples would be Big Dog:
Can be used to carry equipment where ACP's can't go, though the sound makes that thing so damned creepy. It's like a swarm of bees...

And there's also SARCOS, very useful for those typical 'grunt' chores on army bases:

And some dude even claims to have build a full-blown combat exoskeleton:
Mind you, I don't believe it one bit, but I still want to see it tested. It starts becoming silly when he flips his cock-clock open though. And at the end of the video I thought/hoped he'd flip an Assassin's Creed-style blade out of that wrist thingy. Alas, just a spray.

Other:
W40K Dreadnaughts or Titans. Terminator armour is pretty cool too.
Mechwarrior - pretty much any

For me it's a tie between the WH40k mechs, (the Imperial Titans look so badass) and the Knightmares from Code Geass, I have a fondness for the Lancelot.

thats because you haven't watched it yet, then you would know that patlabor is not a military themed anime, its a slice of life/police proceedural style show.
(you also haven't seen armored trooper VOTOMS either, in which the mechas are as 'real' as real robots come)
only 3.8 meters high, and can be very easily turned into a pile of scrap metal

the vast majority of the mechs in patlabor are purely used by civillians for mundane things such as construction and demolition, in essence they are little more than glorified cranes/forklifts, in the middle are the mechs used by the police, which are designed to deal with said mechs being used to commit crimes (incidentally a few military models do turn up, but they're little more than a novelty)

(incidentally the only weapons the police mech has is a scaled up revolver and telescopic baton, and the pilot has to physically get out of the mech and reload the gun by hand when he uses up all the ammo)

lol epic. I always preferred to customize my own mechs really, my favored setup of the Timberwolf is usually 2x clan 20LRMs, 2x clan PPCs, then just outfitted with as many ERheavy lasers as possible and filling out the last of the space with small lasers. ;P
It's toasty as fuck inside the cockpit since everything's overheating! ^^

My favorite Gundam show was 8th Ms Team. It really started me into the series and almost watched all them.
