Why not? We get plenty of ridiculously violent and gruesome games advertised here, but seeing consenting adults having sex is too far?

I realise that kind of opinion is hardly unique to The Escapist audience, but it doesn't make it any less stupid.

I couldn't care less for porn ads, I already know where to find porn in the web...:)
Also yeah, I find it unsuitable; games and sex don't mix well.

Hells yes, half the fun of growing up in the internet as a gamer were the naughty links at gaming sites. The other half was fixing my MBR.

It's not porn ads, it's ads for a feature on a video game console. Therefore, video games.

Sidebar: is it bad that I recognise and can name the actresses in both ads?
It is certainly an interactive medium... heheheh
But that logic is flawed, Netflix isn't part of video-games, and if you say... click on the ad... yeah.

But yeah, what da hells.
Although, it may just be something that slipped through...

Porn ads are for porn sites.
The gaming community has a bad enough reputation as it is, without people thinking we need to resort to porn sites. I mean YES we do.... but this brings me into the simple argument that we're good enough with computers to find above average porn free. So why would you even advertise it in the first place?!

Except for the occasional cursing and nsfw, age-gated content (trailers usually), this site has been fairly clean thus far. Just stay off the forums ;) So yes, porn ads, as respectable as the premium feature-length dvd collections are, are still porn and not really in line with the overall theme and age content for the site. The Escapist itself seems to usually keep a journalistic approach to adult content in story form, commenting on the issue from a distance. I'm genuinely surprised these got through after the half-naked elf discussion not to mention ALL the previous discussions of sexualization in the gaming world. I really hope you understand that there are more companies than just the porn industry you can get to sponsor the Escapist.

Adult content usually also breeds users of a...cruder? pedigree. If you keep with the porn ads you may find that forum traffic is suddenly harder to moderate and that the proportion of legitimate discussion to OMG BABES topics will drastically drop off. And you can forget about the support of women in the community. I guess keep this one as you need to for the contract or whatever but don't bring another one in please. No Escape-Chan por favor.

So, here's me, extolling the virtues of old-school RPG design, when I see this in the banner ad:

Now, as an unrepentant elitist, it annoys the crap out of me to see a banner ad aimed directly at creepy neckbeards on my favorite "let's debate about whether games are art or not for the thousandth time" site, and would much prefer a different sort of ad.

So, a poll was born. Is this sort of thing acceptable? Am I being a prudish American? Discuss.
There is nothing wrong with advertising porn, sorry, there just isn't.

When I first saw it, it made me feel like the escapist was getting desperate, I'm guessing they didn't have much room to disapprove of ads. At least they've still kept flashing scam ads out.

I don't specifically mean to be inflammatory but is it just me or is it really oddly coincidental that a user community made up heavily of bronies and anime fans are taking offense to a tastefully advertised adult movie streaming service ad that is targeting the PS3 user base because....duh, the PS3 user base are gamers and this site has gamers on it?

I'm not trying to insult or denigrate anyone here but seems to me out of all the things on the internet and well the world in general that we've been forced to re-educate ourselves about and learn to be "tolerant" of, it only really apply in one direction.

If the ad was for a tastefully presented mildly homo-erotic Japanese manga game, there would probably be seven pages of people defending the ad and calling the person that brought up the ad an ignorant redneck.

Simple facts are, tolerance is only tolerance if it goes both ways.

I don't actually have a problem with it, but I am definitely not in favor of it. Why exactly is it necessary to have porn ads on this site?

Yeah... no these aren't porn ads. It's advertising a new PS3 service that the Escapist itself wrote an article on. I don't know if this was intensional or not on the part of the Escapist but if you have an issue with this then you are welcome to bring it to the attention of the staff via polite PMs or the Tech Team group.
TimeLord, I would very much like to write to the staff, but I am not certain who to contact, and I'm not certain what medium it is best to contact them through, can you please direct me to it?

If it's either porn ads or ads for the marines I'm siding with the one that contributes more good to society, the porn ads.

AdBlock and PubClub unite to deprive me of these particular ironies. But man, are they delicious to hear about. All the best of the Escapist trolls. What, did they hear about us discussing the new feature for the PS3, found it great pretty much the target audience, and offered some ads? Nicely done, Escapist. Nicely done. I'm not even being sarcastic here, I think this is a hilariously fun idea.

Seeing as technically they offer a streaming service through the PS3, and aren't any more offending than the usual internet ads, I've got no beef.

I stand tall amongst the ELITE!

I had honestly forgotten the Escapist even had adverts :p
Likewise, I'm planning on getting another round of the Pub Club when this one ends in a few months. No ad's before video's is great! :D

Totally worth the (subjectively) small sum of money. Considering I have spent more time on the Escapist than any other internet community and have benefited from countless hours of entertainment I feel they deserve it.

You... may want to wait for an example to actually prove your point, rather than accuse the entire population of this site of... well, whatever it is you are saying about us. I mean, you seriously think people would be cool if it was a link to download yaoi or something? I don't even - what is this?
