As a side note, I love the number of warnings that have been handed out because people have admitted to using "a naughty word" XD

I wonder if you'd get a warning or something if you post the same link that the adverts carry - is it ok if the site does it, but not if someone in the forums does? Just curious...

Well I see after this has been on here for a while, no official word from the escapist. Maybe they're all off enjoying themselves with this new service. Weird as I'm sure some of their other advertisers wouldn't want to be linked to this.

EDIT: Included "some of" as I heard a rumor they're lining up a new advert campaign with Playboy

None of the ads actually SHOW nudity. The top banner has a girl in a fairly basic lingerie top and the sidebar only shows a girls face. Those two things in themselves are not adult content.

Its not like the escapist signs you up for SugarDVD, if you're not interested then dont click.

Yeah... no these aren't porn ads. It's advertising a new PS3 service that the Escapist itself wrote an article on. I don't know if this was intensional or not on the part of the Escapist but if you have an issue with this then you are welcome to bring it to the attention of the staff via polite PMs or the Tech Team group.
TimeLord, I would very much like to write to the staff, but I am not certain who to contact, and I'm not certain what medium it is best to contact them through, can you please direct me to it?
The best way to get your point across would be a PM in my opinion. Although, I'm not sure who exactly you would contact. I don't know who specifically deals with this area of site maintenance. So in that case I'd contact the Tech Team Group [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/chat/Tech-Team] and leave a message there.

In fact, after looking myself, a couple of other users have already posted there and the staff have responded and said that they are looking into it. This was 9 hours ago or so that that was posted. So for all I know the problem could be fixed. Obviously I can't see these ad things :)

Porn ads? What ads? AKUKUKU

Seriously though, not really acceptable considering people could be browsing this in a public place.

It would bother me that much if there were one or two ads that were rarely seen, but this crap is everywhere. Just cut back a little on it and i'll be okay with it.

There's this place called work, where people, I dunno, DON'T NEED TO BE SHOWING PORN ADS AROUND.

So if the Escapist staff would, I dunno, REMOVE THE PORN ADS.

K?

Provided you don't actually click on the ad and go to that site, it's not provocative enough to warrant fear of people judging you based off an ad. I mean come on, it's less revealing than a shampoo commercial. Axe commercials especially have done a good job desensitizing people to casual sexual themes already anyway.

As for the concern for the children(the one's around the minimum age requirement), I have no doubts that they at least have the basic knowledge of what a search of pretty much anything in Google images with safe search turned off will show them. Give the kids more credit, if they want to find it they will and the ads from this site aren't giving them access to things they couldn't already find easily.

I imagine basic web filtering tools used on public computers or setup by the computer's owner(parents) would deny access to the page through the link anyway.

Well...frankly, it's made visiting the site in public a little disquieting, since anyone who manages to glance at the screen and sees it can make a, very valid, conclusion that you're perusing a site that's either partially or exclusively explicit.

Not that I have a problem with porn or porn ads (ok, some of the latter are just downright disgusting, but they're obviously not aimed at me), but this just isn't the site for that sort of thing; related to PS3 or not.

Especially since I can't link to adult material, yet can scroll up and click on a link to adult material.

Sort of defeats the purpose of censoring the fora.

Meh, it's not needed. It's difficult to take any website seriously when they start advertising adult material.
Wait. Read your message again.

You see what you said? You say it's hard to to take something serious when they advertise material made for adults. I'm left to wander, would it be easier to take them serious, in your eyes, if they advertised material for preschoolers?

How, pray-tell, is pornography a negative mark against someone's credit? Let me remind you that, being humans, our world leaders, expert scientists, lawyers and theologians alike, have all most likely indulged in adult material.

That you would consider something so intrinsically human (sexuality and the lust there of) to be a marker for unreliability or discredit says more of you than the website, I would think.

You could, oh I don't know, work while at work and not browse entertainment websites?

It's aimed at PS3 users.

This is a gaming site.

The ad is reasonably tasteful.

Seems good to me.

For you to think only "creepy neckbeards" find woman and sex attractive probably means you are being quite prudish as you suggested. It also suggests your thought process is driven by sterotypes.
Sorry this bothered me since page 1.

I LOVE sex, I HATE porn. I find it pretty objectionable and one of the reasons I like this site is so I don't get that stuff rubbed in my face like I do with 90% of other webpages. It's not prudish to find porn objectionable. The fact you find any ad or porn tasteful speaks to your skewed mentality not mine.

On the escapist the only adverts I get at the top of pages etc (i seem to remember third party advertising for games on some videos) are for series on the escapist.

Whilst I'm not complaining I am bemused. Is this because I'm in the UK and we have some kinda code of general decency for adverts? Hell is it even possible to change appearance of a page dependent on user location?

Incidentally the escapist shouldn't advertise porn. It's a games and nerdy media site, not a pornography site. By and large it's kid friendly - they shouldn't be linked to porn.

Personally I think that it would go against the general theme of the escapist and, as I can imagine a lot of underage people here, I think it would be in very poor taste, but....Site devoted to gamers and gamer culture. Porn is definitively popular 'somewhere' in that niche, but for some reason I just don't see the escapist advertising porn.

I don't care what the ads are as long as they are tasteful. Meaning, no nudity. I have kids and I don't come to the escapist for porn, I come for video games.

So, here's me, extolling the virtues of old-school RPG design, when I see this in the banner ad:

Now, as an unrepentant elitist, it annoys the crap out of me to see .
Hells no, nothing is wrong with you. Though the majority of us have/continue to take advantage of modern masturbation and watch porn, sites like the Escapist are ABOVE porn. And you and I are not elitists for saying so. I'd be happy to call a porn star a friend, given that he/she were also an awesome person. But I still don't have to support their industry by encouraging the Escapist to run ads for it.

Haters, I fully realize that this puts me in the grey and also leaves me open to accusations of hypocrisy. But Hell, I'm single and that shit's visceral.

Oh shit (we can still curse on here, right?), I Just realized that that petty excuse wasn't good enough. How's this?

Not once since I was willing and able to form my own opinions have I had an ethical aversion to the concept of pornography, not of two willing teenagers filming their selves on the good foot doing the bad thing, not Suzy Sucksalot and Dick Doesherhard (not their real names) doing faux-fucking choreography under hotlights until the director screams "cum on her tits!" it has always been The State of porn that bothered me. For example, the sudden post-90's drying up of protection. Remember that? R&B group TLC performed live with "safe sex" written on their jeans, and porn stars would apply condoms to their male counterparts with their lips. Now it's all bareback. Big jiggling don't offend me, because they're real and it's perfectly natural for me to be aroused watching them. But this new mock-rape fad is disgusting. Calling your lover "daddy" can be related to archetypes-most women who do it really get off on it and we're not molested by their father.

What am I rambling about? Porn isn't inherently wrong. Supporting an industry that needs no support and is based purely on I'd instincts on a site about-ahem-art, is
