Well I don't see any problem with taxing it was you would tax normal goods, but they definetly shouldn't increase the tax because it's "immoral" or "wrong" or whatever. That's your opinion and you can't make other people pay more because of it.
That's basically what it sounded like to me. "Let's see if we can tax this to the point that it shuts down the business since people opposed to it are so loudly voicing their opinion." Which is problematic when another group gets loud, can you tax whatever they protest out of business, too?Khell_Sennet said:As someone who purchases adult materials, I would be damn-right pissed if they taxed me for it. It's selective persecution. It's the government going "Here is a market that some people are opposed to existing, so if we tax it, the fundies shut up a little and we can rake in revenue for something we really have no cause to meddle with".
me think you liesletsnoobtehpwns said:Tax the perverts! My friend us so fucked up from hardcore porn that he can't get up from normal porn... and he's only 14! He is going to be REALLY fucked up when he grows up.

I understand the scale of that dilemma (and genuinely I am sympathetic) but is that the problem of the ?perverts? (i.e. end user)? I ask whether the bigger problem might not come from a lack of parenting. I could even see blaming the channels through which a minor might get hardcore pornography (friends whose parents fail to supervise their children properly or maybe the ease of access to adult material on the internet). On the very fringe of discussion I could see maybe even blaming the porn industry it self (although with better supervision I still maintain that children should not be able to acquire pornography). So I ask, how is it that the responsible adults who pay for pornography and enjoy it in the privacy of their homes should have to be taxed because of your friends unhealthy addiction? Do you think it would prevent other children from being able to acquire it in the future?letsnoobtehpwns said:Tax the perverts! Hell yea. Right on brother.Wanderer1911 said:I am from the US and get pissed off every time I hear about a new tax. This colony succeeded from England because of public outrage on excess taxes and yet now not only are our wages and earnings taxed but also all of the items we buy are taxed as well (except maybe groceries depending where you live). Not only that but we are taxed on the land we own, the houses we live in, and even when we die (estate tax). This shit is getting out of hand and having to pay excess luxury taxes on items deemed immoral on unnecessary is on the fringe of going too far (cigarettes, alcohol, pornography, fire arms etc.). These taxes don?t limit or restrict the use of these items; they just piss people off and are a good guise to make a lot of money. The biggest problem in my mind is that the government is forgetting that they are here to serve the people and only as long as they serve the people. If enough people get mad then they can elicit change (all of this from a conservative, funny huh? Oh well I blame the liberals, lol). This is going to sound totally socialist of me but I am in favor of the new flat tax system people are talking about where the only tax is 23 cents to the dollar on any and all items you purchase. Not only would this eliminate the need for the IRS altogether but would also make it so that every one from CEO executives to prostitutes and drug dealers are all paying taxes. Also, if you do the math its, the flat rate tax is less than we are currently paying in taxes.
