Caligula - poor Caligula - I weep to think of all the sadistic horrors he would have inflicted upon the Roman populace and senate as a mad deity if he wasn't prematurely deposed. He was cut down in his prime before he could show the empire the true meaning of ultraviolence. Good night sweet prince.
ha, love it.

Where is Freddie Mercury, I am still annoyed he died before I was born so I never got to see him perform live. Shame about Buddy Holly too though.

Douglas Adams.
Precisely, probably the best author ever imo.
On par with Terry Pratchett, obviously. And while Terry Pratchett isn't exactly dead, I still nominate him because of his early Alzheimers. Thus his writing skills are probably gone, or at least dying. That's enough for me to pick him.

Man, I think there are so many talented artists out there who passed far too early. For actors: Ledger and River Phoenix definitely top the list. I absolutely adored Stand By Me and My Own Private Idaho. And seeing Ledger in Brokeback Mountain and The Dark Knight made it clear the man had a real gift. Musicians: Lennon, Cobain, Jeff Buckley, Hendrix, and Elliot Smith (surprised not to see him up here already). Every single one of them were major contributors to their respective genres, and each helped shape it (Smith primarily influenced the indie scene for anyone not familiar with him). Writers: Douglas Adams, John Kennedy Toole (he wrote a Confederacy of Dunces, which wasn't published until after his suicide but is now considered a classic), and Edgar Allen Poe (he was only 40).

I've never played D&D, but you could say the same of most of the people up there: "They made [a movie, a few songs] really, not very notable."
well some created great pieces of art in their short period on earth or died very young or both. No disrespect to Gary gygax, he seemed a very nice man, but what he did in his seven decades could never be considered art.

Chuck Schuldiner, the lead singer/lead guitarist of the band Death. Cancer killed him because he didn't have enough money to be able to pay for treatment.

There's no such thing as a premature death. You die when you're supposed to die.

Though if Bob Marley was on the list I would vote for him.

I said Heath ledger, not because I was a fan, but because they wouldn't shut up about it and everyone overrated his performance in the Dark Knight because of his death.

2pac? the guy was a fuckin scumbag, albeit a talented one, his death was no great tragedy. totally agre with bob marley, though.
Oi, don't be a dipshit. He is the only rapper that sings about important stuff and reality rather than the retarded stuff all the others are singing about (guns, whores, whores getting shot with guns, cars, money).

Kurt was totally murdered. I don't believe that suicide bologna at all. Courtney was all over that crap! Plus, for all of those who say he only wrote depressing music... think about it, would you be happy with Courtney Love???? COME ON!

Heath Ledger. I don't listen to any of the artists you listed, but I would've loved to see more of Heath Ledger on future movies.
