Poll: Project Natal: an overrated piece of hardware, or a patron saint of next gen. gaming?

I was initially quite interested in it, after reading previews and things. Then I saw Microsoft's own trailer for it and immediately realised that it wouldn't do half the shit they claimed it would. I quickly lost interest.

Also, Lol@people still calling them Failboxes, I still own my 360 since Launch, and it still chugs along fine.
ROFL @ the console-tards that think everything is fine cause they are the lucky 48.8% that the PoS actually works for. XD

We won't talk about how the FAILBox 360 was at about 60% failure rate at launch will we? So in fact you are extremely lucky.
I must say good sir, if there were signatures that would be mine. In fact, I may just keep it copypasta'd for a little while :)

There's a lot of potential for motion-detection based games, but unfortunately 90% of it is wasted on gimmicky stuff, which is kind of the Wii's problem as well. If it's done right it can be amazing, and raises the level of immersion. If it's done wrong it feels awkward, tacked-on, and/or utterly pointless.

I think it will all be up to the games. No matter how great a piece of hardware is, it's worthless unless it has some games that make good use of it.

Feh... I'll get interested in this sort of thing when they release a control system that lets me game using only my eyebrows. I want less effort to game not more.

I recall a motion sensitive shooter arcade game so engrossing that its cardiovascular aspect gave me asthma (which I've only ever had one other time in my life).

Many of the Natal demos have an element of flailing to them, but that doesn't mean that serious games can't use it.

As for force feedback: as a PC gamer, I rarely have it unless I use a controller, but games can still be immersive for keyboard and mouse if done artfully.

I think wii motionplus is about as far as motion control should go until it's sufficiently advanced. people are okay with swinging aa small oblong around but nobody can be fucked to get up and dance or pretend they're an aeroplane

It could be good if it's used right, but it wont be.

motion control is only done right on the WII its a rip off of the Eye Toy controlers are the standard for over 20 years and I dont see whats wrong with them in short: it can go fuck itself
Waitwaitwait...what? Unless I'm reading this horribly wrong (in which case, all due apologies), you're saying that the Wii did motion control right. Er...have you been using the same console as the rest of us for the past few years?

OT: I'll make my own option, I suppose. "Mediocre and gimmicky," just like its Nintendo predecessor. When the Wii worked, it worked pretty well...when it didn't, which unfortunately was the majority of the time, it was twitchy at best and garbage at worst. That's pretty much what I envision Natal being: neither one extreme nor the other, just erratically good but generally flawed.
there are verious games on the WII that do motion cotrol right (TCUK Cooking Mama etc.) but I dont see how the PS3 or 360 can top that since they market to a "mature audience"
Red Steel 2 was pretty good and was kinda mature.

I like sitting on my ass like a zombie and immersing myself in the game without any physical exertion. If I wanted to go dance, play golf, or any other form of physical activity, I would go out and do it, thank you very much.

I guess I'll find out whether or not I really like it when it's released, though the price tag may stop my before I get a chance to find out.

I have serious doubts that it will be good. I don't have a high opinion of the Wii either, even though I absolutely love Super Mario Galaxy, so I suspect the Natal will be the same - one or two fun titles, and the rest will be meeeeeeeeh.

Also, I've pretty much learned to not listen to Peter Molyneux. Ever. He gets a little bit, ah, too enthused about basically any new thing coming out he's had any part in working on. He's let me and a lot of other potential customers down by hyping up something to be ground breaking when the end product is little more than mediocre.

The Xbox was originally made with hardcore online gamers in mind, and now they're trying to attract MORE children to it? That sounds terrible! Fuck motion controls. I'll take the Yahtzee position of "they need force feedback."

Video games should be played with mouse and keyboard. Anything else is crap!

Seriously, motion control just does not interest me. I'll keep an open mind, but there will need to be some killer game (and positive reviews) to justify an investment in Nal.ta

I would love to see game developers and producers stop relying on expensive gimmicks and attachments for their hardware. Their focus should be on creating a great game that can stand on its own merits, and not have to rely on gimmicks to cover up design flaws or developer/publisher laziness. Games are expensive, and some of us cannot afford to pay $60-70 for a game that is more 'filler' than substance, especially when there are hundreds of older games from the past 30 years or so that are much more worthwhile to play, and in some cases cheaper as well.

I hope it'll fail. I don't like the concept, and if you are considering a purchase, I heard it is going to be about $200. Not worth it in my opinion.
I heard they're going to try for $50 wim wams.

A few Swedish sellers put up a price of about $200 for Natal, Microsoft disputed that. Honestly, it really should be no more than $50: if it's $100, than it's going to bomb.
