LOVED a lotof games, but I hated the Dragon Quest game, I think it went down hill after they hired that Dragon Ball artist guy, I can't look at any characters anymore and think "hey, that looks like one of them Dragon Ball people"
Interesting opinion. Did anything else annoy you other than the artist?
You mean in the game or what do you mean?
Well you said you hated Dragon Quest VIII, and said that it was because of the Dragon Ball-style art. I wanted to know what else you didn't like.

Excellent thread, I've been a lover of the PS2 since it came out. Has everything a console needs. Sadly though, I don't play it more than once a year now...
Any reason for that? I say you need a marathon to get you interested again.

I haven't played that many PS2 games and someone has probably already mentioned them:
The Jak and Daxter trilogy

The ps2 was a seminal console, a true classic and will take some topping in my opinion
That just sums up my 18-page Magnum Opus in one sentence. I should have just come to you for inspiration!

I'm a dedicated Xbox guy now, yet I still love the PS2. I'd definitely get it again in future (my brother broke the old one - git).
Do you mean original Xbox or 360? Just for clarification.

Damn. Has it really been 10 fucking years???

I feel old now. I remember getting that on my birthday.

Strange that I decided to buy a PS2 and my collection again now.

My PS2 top 10:

Burnout 3
Timesplitters 1-3 (all three in one spot, thankyouverymuch)
GTA Vice City (I know you struggled to choose between the two, but I just have to choose VC)
Transformers (The Atari licensed one, not the movie tie-in)
MGS3
Hitman: Blood Money (Though Contracts gets special mention for the abattoir level and ESPECIALLY the Hotel level)
Star Wars: Battlefront (it's essentially Battlefield, but with Star Wars.)
Viewtiful Joe
Soul Calibur 2

and lastly: Half-Life. No, you shouldn't play it on PS2, but on PC, but it's still a damned good game (alternative option, with same reasoning: Deus Ex)

I love the PS2. I remember practically being the first kid in my neighborhood to have it. I still have fond memories of my friends coming over to play GTA III. And I will never forget God of War I and II. I love the PS2 and I always will.

Okay, you'll have to forgive me, it's been awhile since I've played it, the traveling could be one, and all the side quests, and the insanely hard monsters (then again I suppose that could just have been because of my low level, if I was low) running back and fourth everywhere

I didn't make a distinction on my list because there are no other TF games for the PS2!

None!

At all!

Also, you have an awesome avatar. Just sayin'.

I have yet to jump ship to the newer consoles, mainly due to money, so the PS2 is still my most current system, but even if I get a PS3, I'll still be playing the PS2 for a long, LONG time.I have my own personal Top Ten, as well, and I'll try to use the same guidelines as Tryzon.

Devil May Cry 3
Final Fantasy X
God of War II
Grand Theft Auto III
Kingdom Hearts
Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Odin Sphere
Resident Evil 4
Rock Band
Soul Calibur II

I moved from the PS2 to the original Xbox, then when they stopped making games for the Xbox I saved up for a 360, since the PS2 was a "family" thing, which meant I had to share.

So now I have a 360, 360 games, loads of Xbox originals, and some pretty sweet PS2 games that I can play once I borrow my friend's PS2, slim is it?

This is an upsetting list. You seem to have forgotten all the true classics in favor of dime a dozen games like Burnout (which incidentally is loaded up on my ps3 at the moment but I digress) and hitman. I respect your opinions but as the years have gone by I believe we've come to see what the true classics are, and most of these aren't it.

Well that's fair enough, although I'd argue that everything except the difficulty are parts of most less modern RPGs, like the Pokemon games, Final Fantasy, what have you. And I think that you might have tried to take on the bosses with low leveled characters, since Journey of the Cursed King isn't the hardest RPG I've seen. Still, valid points and I agree with them for the most part.

Well I sense a challenge here, friend. Care to suggest alternatives? I can imagine that ICO and Shadow of the Colossus might be among them.

Oh, but I DID LOVE the part where you'd walk under a bridge, use the fly technique, and whack your head on the bridge

As much as it's opinion, and I respect that, but no Silent Hill 2?

That's just shocking.

Since a few people have mentioned Silent Hill 2 now, I'll explain why it's absent. I have only ever played the original Silent Hill (and not much), and most horror games scare me shitless, for I am I coward of the highest calibre. Then again, Resident Evil 4 is often called "terrifying" and I rarely even got a bit nervous during that, so it's all very confusing.

I'm sure someone's wondering why Resident Evil 4 is missing, too. That's because I see it as a decent shooter with good ideas crippled by annoying design and tedious backtracking. A vast improvement on previous Resis, but merely okay nonetheless.
