I've got both, and there really aren't that many games specific to one or the other. I'd recommend just sticking with what you've got: that's what games you have, and what you're used to.

Conversely, having both is pretty nice, and the 360 isn't too prohibitively expensive at this point.

Also reasonable, and you may be able to pull it off to a basic level with what you've already got. It's a lot of fun and not too hard to get into, and it lends a lot more flexibility (like server lists in multiplayer and many more modding opportunities/kits/tools). Besides, Steam (or whatever you decide to use) frequently has stuff available at very reasonable prices--the danger is that you may buy a game at a whim because it's only $5 for a day or two.

...

I know you can buy those extenders but that's just fucking supid to fork out for something as simple of making a trigger ergonomical.
Yeah, paying for something that should come naturally, diabolical that.

How much you paying for XBL Gold? XBox 360 is currently the ONLY platform that charges a fee to allow any game to play multiplayer.

But come on, those snap-on concave triggers cost about $2 as a one off cost and overall make it better than the 360 triggers due to the wider area. Or are you the type who likes to loudly complain about things rather than taking the tiny step to more than remedy it?

The 360 is pretty much where most multi-platform games are developed for so it's not unusual for the 360 to have better graphics & framerates with fewer bugs that it's PS3 counterpart... but the differences usually aren't very great.

Most 360 exclusives are that way because of funding. If a game hits, the sequel will usually be developed for the PS3. Said sequels tend to be better than the original (Saints Row and Just Cause being notable examples).

The two big 360 only franchises are Halo and Gears. And Epic is going multi-platform on their next game with the Gears trilogy winding down.

The MP community for the 360 is more active... but this isn't always a good thing.

PS3 exclusives have a bit more variety IMO and aren't going to be ported to the PC. Many do PS3/PC for this reason.

The PS3 doesn't require a premium membership for free on-line services and MP (such as it is) is free.

So if you really want to play Halo or Gears (or you really love MP) there's not a huge reason to switch. The two systems are pretty similar and the great bulk of games are available on both systems.

That's the big saving with PC, cheap games even new. Consider that even though Hardware may be a bit more expensive you save so much getting new games for such low prices. And apparently the publishers love it as online distribution (like steam) so many middle men are cut out they take a much bigger cut of the final sale price (70% of online list price rather than a mere 30% of bricks-and-mortar store price).

Also a gaming PC can do more than just gaming. It's a computer, and that really is the ideal platform for breadth and depth of electronic entertainment from movies to music to TV.

Wow I complain about 1 thing on the PS3 and I get shit from a fanboy awesome...

Do you know why PSN for the most part is free? There are 3 reasons.

1. Advertising. There is a lot of virtual advertising on PSN everything from billboards to posters to everything that they use in the real world. We don't have that on Live, is that a small price to pay forPSN being free? I'm sure it is. But I pay and I don't have to put up with it.

2. Competition. Take a look of the features offered on free PSN compared with the features offered on Xbox Live. Party Chat is the big one I can talk to 7 other friends playing 7 other games all at once no matter what game I'm playing, it's brilliant. Then if you live in the USA or UK there is a whole bunch of other shit you get, but maybe it just comes down to the fact that XBL is nicer to use, the friends list and messages are easier to access and manage. PSN needs to be free because the competition is so strong that a lot of people wouldn't pay for that over Xbox Live.

3. Microsoft. Yeah I'll giev you the last one, Microsoft are a bunch of greedy fucks and in this day and age the price of the "service" should be receeding not increasing, but hey, I've been on it nearly 4 years and yes, it's actually worth the money I pay. Even If it's only for party chat, that's less than my phone bill would end up being.

Also I don't think it's fair to compare the trigger extenders to pay for xbox live, no one forces you to pay for Live, but those triggers are not ergonomic and I find it uncomforatble to actually play a PS3 for any extended period of time. At least paying for Live doesn't cramp up my hands.

Pretty good article that might help make a decision.
I wouldn't say so. It acts like Mass Effect 2 never saw a PC release. Same for others like Metro 2033, Splinter Cell: Conviction and many more.

It's NOT an Xbox exclusive if it's out on PC. These "PS3 vs 360" is looked at FAR too narrowly, everyone just seems to put their blinkers on and don't want to look at the other competition which (predictably) is anti-competitive and undermines the free market principals of the best always rising to the top.

Remember, GAMES first, platform second.

I don't like the wii as a console but I have a lot of Wii games on my list because they are such damn good games.

Wait...you already own a ps3.. why bother selling and trying to get an xbox when your obviously strapped for cash in the fact that you can't shell out like $200 for the cheapest xbox.
Keep the PS3 Eventually get an Xbox or a PC capable of playing games.
As practically only three xbox exclusives are really "exclusives"
Halo,alan wake, GeOW 3.
Everything else on PC i believe.
If you keep the PS3 you will have fun still. They both have amazing games. Don't be jealous of the other system enjoy what you have.

It's also nice that it's easier for smaller people (i.e. indie developers) to get their content out there. Some of my favorite games cost only a few bucks and were developed by a handful of people with a few great ideas. VVVVVV, for example, is a fantastic game worth several hours of gameplay that only costs $5 and can run on pretty much any setup. At the risk of sounding like an advertisement, that's the sort of stuff that you can't get as easily on a console (in addition to all of the huge names that you've come to know and love on consoles).

The danger of PC gaming, however, is that it's WAY too easy to just end up drifting off into a game when you need to be doing work. It's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

Go with whatever console your friends have so you can play online with them. If you have both then you tend to buy the multiplatform games (i.e. 90% of them nowadays) for just one console, leaving the other one sorely underused.

PS3 online is free because:

0th reason: online SHOULD BE FREE. Every other gaming platforms that has ever existed with online gaming capability has been free.

1. better "funding" model with the odd billboard so rare I don't think I've ever noticed one. Even though the funding comes from the price of the games themselves, so whatever.

2. lacking pointless cross-game chat. I can "Party" chat on PC. Utterly pointless and never used. I am NOT a casual gamer, when I play a game I like to get engrossed in it, not idly chat with someone in a completely different game. You couldn't possibly be talking about the game you are playing to co-operate to be a good team player.
Party chat appeals to the same people who like talk on their phone while watching a movie at the cinema.

3. greed. Yet you've bought from them for the past 4 years. $200 overall. Skype is free and ANYONE with a computer can use it.

With skype (or any other service really) you wouldn't just be limited to talking to other Xbox 360 owners and Gold Membership payers. But Don't you see what Microsoft is doing? Giving communication only to gold members you develop friendships mainly with gold members, you never talk with anyone who leaves at least (as long as you stick with XBL for socialising). This is how cults sustain themselves, inward communicating. You've just hanging around with the other kool-aid drinkers.

I can talk at length about Microsoft's manipulative marketing and control of XBL users but it will have to wait till tomorrow.

Well the 360 has more exclusives than the PS3 and the online community is better, but keep in mind that they are raising the price of X-box live on November 1st.

Now I am an Xbox gamer through and through, the wonderful 360 made sure of that. However recently I just bought a second hand ps3 so I can play the handful of exclusives they have. Now I still prefere my 360 and it is still my main gaming console(all multiplats will be bought on 360).

Have no fears about buying an xbox, it is absolutely worth all the money, I would say the hassle too but I have had zero problems with my 3 year old console and bare in mind that all the hardware problems have been essentially fixed and it was really only launch 360s that had the really high fail rate.

If you like the 360's library better then by all means go for it. It has some amazing games some of which are old enough at this stage and should be cheap as hell(Think I saw the first gears of war the other day for 5 euro! Amazing value!)

Both consoles are amazing, both have flaws but both are very minor ones. For me the only real deciding factor between them is the library which I think 360 does have a better one, but as I said pointless now that I have a ps3 too.
