At this point in time, you might as well stick to your PS3. The Xbox really isn't offering anything compelling enough to justify a switch. The PS3 has more exclusives and most of the exclusives the 360 had have been (or are being) ported to the PS3 since. Plus, if your post is any indication, you don't seem like you have the money to spend on a Xbox Live account, so you might as well stick to the free online multiplayer on the PS3.

Really, the only advantage the Xbox has is that DLC is released earlier for it than any other platform. But considering that you seem to be limited on cash, I doubt that is a point of concern to you. And in other aspects, things have been shifting into the PS3's favour.

xbox or ps3 and no fanboys please.
i hate to break it to ya, but topics like this are like cocaine for fanboys. right now there are ps3 and 360 fanboys who have never even heard of the escapist, but are being drawn here because they sense a "which is better" post.

if you really love sports games and shooters, or play online a lot, then get a 360. otherwise theres no point. i have a ps3 and for a long time it was the special kid in the class that no one wanted to hang out with. over the years it has gotten much better but 360 will always have the best online gameplay. online seems to be the trend so 360 would make more sense if you follow that trend. me? i cant stand online, im a single player kinda guy so im sticking with my ps3.

if you still arent sure, then just use this flowchart

Well do you like God of War and Gran Turismo or Halo and Forza Motorsport? It's all about exclusives at this point. Not really anything else, assumng you're not into motion controls.

I own both...so ill say

Keep the PS3 if you

like Blue-Ray movies

Like to access the internet. I like to use Pandora over Last FM

It it easier to use external HD with videos. The PS3 automatically starts the next video in the sequence.

free online, xbox costs more after a couple of years to play online.

controller is lighter.

move is pretty awesome.. Killzone 3 and Socom 4 will feature Move

ohh and better graphics ...

Hot damn. I dunno, to tell you the truth. Without more information of what you consider "variety", it's hard.

FPSs, Kinect, Fable, Halo are all excellent on Xbox, but they are less varied in that the console is centered around violent videogames.

Move, Little Big Planet, Uncharted, inFAMOUS are all excellent games on the PS3, and I'd say they are slightly more varied in that not all of their titles have to be violent.

But I am usually a big Nintendo buff (first console was the SNES and then N64 and always bitched about Sony and MS till I played them; now I can't decide which one is better).

If you tell me what kind of gamer you are/games you look forward to the most, it'll be a breeze. Plus, you have to take into account that most console exclusive games are a huge minority except for Nintendo.

I own both at the moment, but I say the Xbox.

Mostly they are the exact same, just look at the exclusives, if Halo and Gears of War intrest you a lot then I would first find a friend who has them and try them. If you like them then buy the 360. Though I won't lie, The Last Guradian looks like it's gonna be the game that I play for a month or two straight JUST becuase I loved Shadow of the Colossus. I also plan on getting the Shadow of the Colossus/Ico HD remakes for the PS3.

To each his own, I say. I have a 360 and there are only two reason why I got it over the PS3.

1.$100 cheaper (at the time)
2.If it RROD then my manager would fix it for free.

Apparently PS3's are kinda shot when they break.

... Neither. Get a PC that doesn't suck and enjoy Steam games for much, much cheaper. Not to mention modding communities for most of those games too. Oh and no fees for online use too!

Well I only have a 360 so that sorta colors my opinion, but if you have the option you should definitely get it, preferably one of the special editions because they're far less prone to Red rings. PS3's ok to, but I've only had a grand total of about an hour of play time on one so I can't really say much except avoid the game Mercenaries 2 at all costs.

I really dont see what people mean when they say that the RRoD is such a deal breaker. I've had my 360 for about 3-4 years and its only RRoD 3 times, and only one of those times was out of warrenty.
Made me "lol" ... breaking down once a year is perfectly reasonable! I have had my phat PS3 since launch and never had a problem with it.

I would say PS3 but I am biased, I just think it outscores the 360 in every area, hence the reason I chose it.

EDIT. People say XBL is better than PSN but I have never had a problem with PSN, I think they just pay for the gimmicks, like dressing up there avatars and then come up with reasons that XBL costs them, like it has better servers.

Used to own an xbox360 (rrod), always been a PS fan before. Got a PS3, didnt regret it a second. Both consoles have exclusives, but PS3 has the best ones imo. Xbox exclusives are fun but pretty generic (like for example Gears of War), PS3 exclusives are fun and original/special. Like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Last Guardian, Heavy Rain etc.

The ONLY reason you see less special edition Xbox 360s with RRoD... is because there are less of them! They aren't more reliable, it's like playing Russian Roulette with a really rare gun with the logic:

"I've never heard of someone dying playing russian roulette with the Colt Diamondback .45, so it must be safer"

The longer any XBox 360 is left on the greater the more likely it will be to fail.

Seems like 360 exclusives tend to come from essentially PC devs and most of their offerings are either FPS or RPG. The PS3 exclusives tend to come from console devs and straddle a larger range of genres.

Yup, and those categories of games I usually play on PC anyway. I go to my PS3 when I want something 3rd person or quirky.
