Friends don't let friends buy PS3s.
Yeah, those "friends" rope them into getting Xbox 360 and joining their cult walled garden of Xbox Live. It's scary how cult like millions of Gold Users evangelise and rationalise Gold Membership to their friends. Of course they don't know any better alternative services, and they have incentive to convince their friends to join, it's a logical trap. And people are going to value their friends advice most... even though it may be fundamentally selfish.

Jeeeehsus. It used to be about the games, now it's all about the popularity bandwagon. Popular because it is popular because it is popular.

I mean what if your friend was an obvious fan of Metal Gear Solid, God of War, Socom, Twisted Metal, Time Crisis or Ratchet & Clank? What if they always liked the games from Insomniac, Sucker Punch or Naughty Dog? What kind of friend would cajole them into getting a 360 then, I've seen this done, "either game together on XBL or MGS4", choose between friendship and great games.

NO FRIEND should ever do that. Friends look out each other's interests first and hanging out secondarily.

If your friend is a big Halo fan; go for Xbox 360

If not, then they don't have many good reasons to get an xbox 360. They'd do better with any other platform.

To each his own, I say. I have a 360 and there are only two reason why I got it over the PS3.

1.$100 cheaper (at the time)
2.If it RROD then my manager would fix it for free.

Apparently PS3's are kinda shot when they break.
1. Is that $100 cheaper including a large hard drive ($150) and the cost of XBL Gold ($60 every year)?

2. you actually list RROD as a reason to get 360 over PS3?

PS3 is as reliable as a woodburning stove.

Mine came with the 60 Gig one which has been big enough for me. But your right about the 60 a month for live, so $40's cheaper at the time.

My point about the Red Ring was that if it were to happen to my 360 I could get it fixed free of charge the day that it happened. I understand that PS3's hardly break down but when they do, your basically out of luck.

Although I am a firm Playstation Fanboy, most PS3 games are horrible IMHO, I prefer the nostalgic PS1 + PS2 games of old. And although I technically can play PS1 games on my PS3, I've played an Xbox and I hate the controller but love the originality of some of the games.

I'd say get an Xbox... but get a PS2 aswell, they can't be that expensive.

And while I'm fantasising get a Sega Genesis, NES and a Dreamcast.

Well I only have a 360 so that sorta colors my opinion, but if you have the option you should definitely get it, preferably one of the special editions because they're far less prone to Red rings. PS3's ok to, but I've only had a grand total of about an hour of play time on one so I can't really say much except avoid the game Mercenaries 2 at all costs.
The ONLY reason you see less special edition Xbox 360s with RRoD... is because there are less of them! They aren't more reliable, it's like playing Russian Roulette with a really rare gun with the logic:

"I've never heard of someone dying playing russian roulette with the Colt Diamondback .45, so it must be safer"

The longer any XBox 360 is left on the greater the more likely it will be to fail.
No, the reason you see less red rings on special editions is because they don't try and put them together with bits of sticky tape like they did with the regular ones. So it's more of the logic "This gun is better put together then the last model so it's less likely to explode in my face."

Ok i know this might be a bit overdone but i have a ps3 and im thinking of selling it to buy an xbox now

I bought my ps3 from a friend at a cheap price and its like 2 years old and it works just fine, no problems nothing, the thing is i dont really see a lot of variety as in the xbox game catalog. If i sell it, i want to get the ps3/wii drunken lovechild that is the new xbox but im still not sure if its a good move cause i dont know about you but i dont have 300 dlls to spend on a gaming console so it can give a RROD and then wait a month or two, get it replaced Argh, is it to much to ask for my moneys worth ?

anyhow what do you think?

xbox or ps3 and no fanboys please.
Well first look, I might always say lately, get the platform your friends have but look at the games coming out.

Do you want to play in the future for the PS3:

Gran Turismo 5
Socom 4
LittleBigPlanet 2
Killzone 3
Mass Effect 2 (coming out for the ps3 next year.)
Twisted Metal
Resistance 3
The Last Guardian
InFamous 2

Or for the 360

Kingdoms
Gears of War 3...
if someone could help me show more, I honestly don't know many 2011 360 games.

I mean honestly, and I hope I don't come off as a 360 hate (love Halo, Gears is pretty fun) but it has way less variety. Sure you also got Alan Wake and Fable (though I woudln't really put Fable in the originality side of things) but honestly not much else.

Also have you tried Demon's Souls for the ps3 yet..?

comparing the slim ps3 to the 360 i would get the ps3...the 360 has always seemed to me as a monopoly of resources..ex-locked kind of hard drives and mem sticks and usb limitations.Exclusives are 'meh' to me but i love me some halo!all in all 250 gig hrd drive for a 360-130$ a tetra for the ps3?120!118!106!the amount of competition keeps the prices low..i always felt bad when i would hear my friends lament outlandish mem stick prices when we were hanging out or when they rrod'ed n me n ma other friends would fix'em? Sadly my 360 is dead.oh and lag wise i found the online experience to be the same...and the apps on 360 the ps3 browers can do except espn as an example, but i dont find it worth the price...voice mail is awesome tho!
i think ps3 is a fighter/rpg/sp system where as the 360 is more of the shooter/adventure/mp

Bottom line:If you like the exclusives on the 360...get it! if they dont catch you as much get the ps3...i did!lol

I am an avid Sony lover, but even I must admit, when it comes to this generation, the 360 is king.

99% of cross-platform games are developed for it, and therefor look much better on it and run smoother on it.

Sad state of affairs...
When it comes to cross-platform; why give the crown to Xbox 360 for only occasionally being significantly better?

If you REALLY care about getting the best release of each multiplatform game it's not PS3, nor 360, but PC.

1080p resolution
4x MSAA
60 frames/sec, rock solid
Double/triple buffered V-sync
Extra texture detail
Quicker/instantaneous texture loading
Mouse Aim
Fully customisable control layout

That's PC. I always get games on PC if I can, even if it means a wait, it's always well worth it.

Otherwise PS3 is good enough for multi-plats, except you don't have to pay-to-play with online multiplayer.

Xbox 360 isn't even much more popular than PS3 considering the RROD and general failure rate. I mean it's only a 12% lead in sales over PS3 but the failure rate is WAY higher than 12%, and PS3 has such an incredibly low failure rate. Ultimatley, considering the vast number of individuals who have bought multiple Xbox 360 systems to replace broken-out-of-warranty units, I'd say there are less functional and in use Xbox 360's out there than there are functional and in use PS3 systems.

But we shouldn't obsess over sales figures as it's all backwards

Wii
360
PS3
PC

Should be the complete other way around, but it's like that with quality, Transformers 2 made more money than Inception, does that make Michael Bay a better director?

Gamecube "lost" last generation (not as bad as DC though) but still a must-have system of that generation. N64 again "lost" to Playstation, but this isn't a freaking race, this is about the games.

They fixed the RROD problem with the new Xbox's, and gave them built in wi-fi, so at this point the new xbox is a PS3 with more games (not necessarily better though) and a better online.

I had an xbox but own a PS3 now btw
They didn't fix the RROD problem, they just took out the lights that exhibited the symptom. For people who talk about the new die, it's done for lower production cost reasons, not to lower failure rates, and the disc scratching issue was made worse, not better.

Now is just about the worst time to buy the 360 since it's completely unknown how much more will go wrong with the new models.
