As long as designers stay away from the uncanny valley [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_valley] I have no problem. All that matters is that a game is fun; if the characters look goofy to the point of distraction then we have a problem.

all the way, simulation baby.

obviously I don't want to play a "5/5" game anything like the sims or about working two jobs as a single mother. but total realism experiencing exiting things like fighting in a war or exploring a fictional world, sign me up.

gimme the red pill! (or whatever colour its supposed to be :p)

4/5. I don't want a game where you have to wait too much, nor load a savestate when you lose a little health and you're unable to automatically regen it.

It should stop when realism hurts the story, or when the graphics budget starts to affect the budget for gameplay elements. I'll take Wind Waker graphics over GoW2 any day.
God of War 2 or Gears of War 2?

I don't care that much for realisim. As long as I can cut someone in half with a chainsaw, Gears of War 2, or throw someone at a Blackhawk helicopter destroying it in the process, the upcoming Prototype, F*** realisim.

I think it should stop before the point where you get killed if your character does.
Hmm that would be interesting, playing I wanna be the guy was never so tense! :p

If AI:s become advanced enough to at least give the impression that NPCs are truly sentient, as opposed to controlled by (relatively speaking) simple algorithms, it could very well be too realistic for me. But I don't think that's gonna happen any time soon.
Turn on your 360, Dave.

some realism is good, but excessive amounts can go to waste or even bring down a game. such as GTA IV, i don't play games to watch fake tv, i play games so i can have fun like shooting the tv.
