When I first started routinely shaving my face, it was always during a shower but after awhile I felt a bit too cramped (we had a smaller shower back then) and opted to shave after thinking that the water from the shower would still keep my pores open enough for a clean shave.

However recently I've been getting some acne along the areas I frequently shave: (chin, cheek etc) I was convinced that it was due to a rather new form of shaving cream I was using and my skins way of punishing me for going cheap, but a friend of mine suggested that it may be due to the fact that I was shaving after a shower and in someway unable to fully remove the shaving residue from my face (even though I wash my face off afterward's in the sink).
My friend instead told me that i should try shaving just before a shower that way I could make sure that my face would be clear entirely, I've now been shaving before a shower for about 2 weeks but it just hit me that shaving during the shower would not only solve this problem but would also ensure that my skin's pores would be open for a better shave (or so I'm told) My question now is: How should I go about shaving?.....my face.

When do you prefer to shave?

No mirror in the shower.
Well I dont know about anyone else but I do have a lil mirror in my shower.....I just never really use it and it gets foggy alot, but it clips onto the wall or anything else really.

Kinda looks like this but not as expensive: http://www.dormbuys.com/images/products/20080623142525_5123_large.gif

I have a mirror in my shower, and I only shave before or after if I'm in a mood to get rid of my goatee, in which case I need the extra moisture from shaving cream to take everything off properly. Shower's fine for everything else.

i shave after shower, or just splash some water on the face as i don't always have time to shower each morning, im a bit confused about the acne, i too use some cheap-ass shaving cream and i don't have any acne.

also how can you keep the cream on the face when your in the shower, also no mirror, and the only fun in shaving is to put the shaving cream on so it looks like i have an 1800 inventor mustache.

You either have the water hit your back as your facing your mirror and shave, or just somewhere away from your face.....kinda a waste of water now that I think about it.....

Before or after, but never in.

(Don't have a mirror)

I'm not sure if it is better for you or not

But then no females will luv me :(

Clean shaven is the only way to go at my high-school, anything else usually becomes a self cock-block

it takes like 2 minutes every other or third day to shave, it may take you 5-6 to do it the first time since it sounds like you haven't done it in quite some time.

Real men shave with two knives.

One for the reflection, the other for the shaving.

Ain't got time to shower. To busy hunting predator.

I usually shave after showers, it moisturizes your face and there is less chance of you cutting yourself. As for the acne, you probably need a shaving cream for sensitive skin, I never get acne where I shave.
