Why no JRPGs? Curious, considering the current issue of the magazine.

Anyway, my favourite current RPG series is probably Mass Effect.

amongst those...probably mass effect series, its immersed me the most and gripped me the most into playing it into the night

however, my favorite, and that it most likely will belong to, is kotor 1 and 2, and MAYBE tor once that comes out, as they are making it out to be kotor 3-*insert number here* with partners more and more everytime i see it, which im more than satisfied with.

Im not gonna put people here through the pain of directly quoting yahtzee as that would be rather well just plain retarded. To put it simply I dont like JRPGs. I understand some do and some hate them but I just dont really care as long as I dont have to play them. So yeah I guess I am primarily talking about WRPGs. I cant really pick a favorite. I loved all the Forgotten Realms games. People mentioned a few of my favorites I forgot about which would be KoToR, Planescape, and Arcanum. As for Fallout how can I even get started. I played and loved 1&2 then 3 came along. Now yeah 3 was good and well but the first 2 just were so much better in my opinion. The recently released New Vegas however really blew me away it combined what I liked about 1&2 and the few things I liked about 3 and has pretty much consumed the last 3 weeks of my life.

I can't wait for the next working Fallout title, heh.

Other than that, good RPGs are tough to find now that I've lost my love of JRPGs. If only BioWare was run by robots that didn't need sleep, so we could have tons more Mass Effects and Jade Empires (not to mention KOTOR games, huzzah).

... WHERE IS THE DRAGON AGE?! Just because there is only one game and an expansion pack so far doesn't mean it shouldn't be counted! I love that game. I have played it for hundreds of hour. :(

I can't really believe Diablo is a consideration. I haven't played 3 yet, but I didn't think it was an rpg.

Even though I love Fallout 3 I didn't play 1, 2 so I can't say that one. And as much as I like the elder scrolls series I've never finished a one.

My vote goes to Wizardry.

I really like Bethesda Softworks' approach to RPG's, and I know they're not everyone's favorite. I know a lot of people hate their RPG's, actually, but I love them. They are exactly what I like in an RPG.

yeah, Diablo is very much an rpg. Some elements of WoW came from the Diablo series, to the point that they're called the same thing in both games.

This is going to sound weird, but even though I've never ever even come close to finishing the main campaign of a Elder Scrolls game, it is easily my favorite series.
The reason being...the world was truly immersive for me.
I did side quest after side quest, read book after book, became a god, talked to Demons, and everything in between.
But the greatest thing was that it never felt unnatural(the quests, the people on the other hand....)
One quest led to another smoothly.
Never ran out of places to discover, never got too bored, and in the end, in stead of following the story that I was supposed to follow, I simply made my own. And damn was it epic.

Tough...

I can't say Fallout because i've not played the first two games, and Mass Effect isn't quite finished yet so I can't really judge if that is my favorite or not. Instead, I'll just vote for Baldur's Gate while giving a nod to those other two series'. :)

Fallout all the way... though some JRPGs back in the 90s are up there for me, too. Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger and Phantasy Star IV.

Feel free to discuss any RPGs you like or are looking forward to. One game in particular I cant wait to play is the new Dungeon Siege
Dungeon Siege 3 seems to be developed by Obsidian Entertainment, so prepare for the game to be extremely buggy. :)

My personal favorite series would be Icewind Dale! I absolutely loved Icewind Dale 2, the way it continued the story and made references to the first game. Yet for some reason I never hear people talking about this series.

But fortunately I have multiple series to talk about which I consider them "first place" together with Icewind Dale, to name a few series: Gothic, Neverwinter Nights, Diablo, Fallout, Mass Effect and I can't wait for the Dragon Age 2 so I can add another series to my collection. ^.^

Icewind Dale is excellent, most who've played the series will agree with that! But lets be honest here: narrative is hardly the series strong-point. Icewind Dale 2 especially seems more like the developers went first with 'What would make an awesome fight' and then later tried to build a plot around those encounters. Which while making for one helluva fun experience does also provide plentiful fodder for mockery.

Half the time I'm playing Icewind Dale 2 I don't know who I'm fighting or why, but it is sweet so who cares!

Or at least that's always been my take on the Icewind Dale series. If I want a mind-blowing story, I play Planescape: Torment. If I want a great tactical strategy/rpg thingamagummy, then Icewind Dale series! And if I want that perfect Reese's like delicious mix of action and story, I go with Baldur's Gate.

Mmm, Reese's... Mmm... Baldur's Gate...
