I think that Bioware is an easy first. The story and depth behind each game is astounding.
And because i really really love Oblivion, Bethesda is my second choice. That game was amazing, all those quests and the Brotherhood. Plus Sheogorath was hilarious.

Vote for Bethesda or I'll rip out your intestines and skip rope with them!

Bethesda couldn't hope to create an RPG as good as Bioware if they sacrificed five Baalor to Gary Gygax.

Bioware. Because Jade Empire was RPG gold! I spent many a sleepless summer night perfecting my combat styles. KotoR was also very good and I've pissed away more hours in NWN and NWN2 than I care to count. Mass effect is also a god damn good game but I prefer their old work over all.

I do have to give Bethesda a very respected second though.
I have put more hours into Morrowind and Oblivion than any other RPG (except WoW but that doesn't count). But my true RPG roots lie in Daggerfall. That game made me the RPG junkie I am today, nothing can top the joy I felt every time I came home from school and booted that game.

Well, no matter how many times I tried, I could not get into Mass Effect. I loved Knights of the Old Republic, and I really wanted to like ME, but there was just something keeping me from enjoying the games....

Bethesda--Morrowind is one of my favorite games. Oblivion was really good, but I did not enjoy it as much. It was bigger...but felt emptier. Fallout 3...even more so

Square--Chrono Trigger is one of my favorite games, along with Final Fantasy 9, and Kingdom Hearts. But...I haven't really enjoyed the double-digit final fantasies, and I felt that the Kingdom Hearts sequels brought down the series (complicating the plot while watering down the disney worlds...not a good sign).

Obsidian--KOTOR2 is the onyl game of theirs that I've played...it was fantastic (imo, better than the first if you keep in mind all the meddling of LucasArts)

Can't comment on Ion. I bought Deus Ex when it went on sale, but I haven't gotten around to playing it.

While these are all games I've loved, I'm gonna half to go with the developer that's consistently made RPGs I've loved (even when one of their series started lacking for a bit, they had more to pick up the slack). From pokemon to paper mario, Nintendo's RPGs are usually fantastic. Pokemon for its huge amount of hidden gameplay depth (knocking TES's "create a class" and FF7's materia system out of the water), and the Mario RPG titles are have hillarious writting and usually contain an interesting twist on the turn-based gameplay.

Whoever made the d20 system is my personal favorite (I can't remember who made the actual d20 system, nor do I care enough right now to look it up or recite the history of D&D. Besides, if I leave it like this someone will surely do it for me in an attempt to fix some horrible error I've probably made). Sure, not a video game (nowhere in the topic does it say it has to be a video game company), but the d20 system is a very flexible rule system that allows players to create their own worlds and characters in a...mildly simple way (sucks trying to learn it all on your own). I believe they're the best because they give you the rules and let you figure out how to use them

But, if the above doesn't fly, then I'd say...Square Enix since they made FFVII, Dragon Quest VIII, and The World Ends With You (My three favorite RPGs).

ninja'd on that part.

OT: once i played KOTOR...all other rpg's fell to the side. bioware has YET to make a game that i have not really liked/loved.

i can't say that about other companies thus far.

I vote Square, and i think it's ridiculous you'd exclude them for not solely making RPG's. That makes no sense, they still make RPGs.

Bioware has the best stories and settings, Bethesda has the best exploration qualities, while Camelot (creators of Golden Sun) has the best RPG mechanics.

So I vote for Biothesalot.

You must admit though that Bethesda does make a vivid exploration experience, one that is frankly lacking in ANY Bioware title. ME has an excellent universe, but the MAKO is laughable, and ME2 completely scrapped exploration. Bethesda is good at creating brilliant environments, while Bioware is skilled at creating believable worlds.

It's truly a wonderful thing when you care so much about a character that you actually tear up at their death. I'll miss you, Gunnery Chief.

I think Bioware is head and shoulders over the rest when it comes to the quality and consistency of their body of work.

However, I'm voting for Ion Storm, simply because their TWO great RPGs, Deus Ex and the criminally underrated Anachronox are both fantastic and very different from anything else I've played, and as a studio they deserve a lot more recognition than they get.

I thoroughly enjoy all of those but Bethesdas games are the only ones i find myself completing multiple times and spending countless hours on, so they get my vote.

Black Isle by far. Planescape Torment and Fallout are hands down better than anything I'v seen from any other company.

Troika would be a distant second followed by Ion Storm (who also made Anachronox).

Bethesda used to make great games but recently they seem to have lost all conception of good game design.

Bioware's game are just bland from what I've played, generic settings, generic stories, generic characters.
