See Yahtzee's rant: "This is why franchises shouldn't be continued when the writers are such big fans of the source material. Just look at Dr. Who" (Don't remember the exact quote or what video it's from, if anyone remembers could they help me out?)
I think it was from the Ghostbusters review.
See also the Nostalgia Critic: HERE [http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/thatguywiththeglasses/nostalgia-critic], and pick one of your favorite nostalgic movies (he does 80s and 90s)
Nostalgia Critic rarely bashes popular "nostalgic" movies. Most of the time I find he takes movies that were poor-recieved even when they were released and just citizises them again.

Honestly, did any of you have fond child-hood memories of The Garbage Pail Kids Movie, The Magical Journey or The End of Days?

The only time I genuinely feel that he takes a critical look at something nostalgic is in the Raiders of the Story Arc segments.

Difference is GameInformer has competition. Nintendo Power still sold you this stuff, but it game genuinely unplayable games 8's.
Correction: GameInformer HAD competition. Today, I can scarcely think of another magazine that competes. Sort of a moot point now anyway since timely/credible gaming information is found almost exclusively online now anyway (if you know where to look).
You're on one of GameInformer's competitors websites and you're saying this? IGN seems like a good competitor too.

Also there will always be the console specific magazines.

Well I know he recently went over the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon episodes and was critical. He also went over the original X-men cartoon episodes and was critical. IT seems to be fairly liked. Independence Day has it's fans as well as haters, so that's a mixed bag if you ask me. I know I had good nostalgia of Space Jam and the first Pokemon movie. Captain Planet was enjoyed by me back then even though now I look at it and laugh at it's god awfulness.

So while a lot of the stuff he makes fun of are just bad in their own right, he does take a look at more nostalgic things.

Paper magazines. Not websites.

IGN is a popular competitor, but I don't take any of their articles at face value anymore (or any for that matter. I correlate trends instead).

(On the other hand, that "G.I.Joe" movie was pretty good)
>G.I.Joe
>good

I SERIOUSLY hope you were being sarcastic here, and I was just being an idiot for not noticing. Please tell me this is the case.
I really, seriously think (as a film critic who was never a fan of the original product) that "G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra" is one of the best summer blockbusters I've ever seen (which is the same as to say it was a golden ring amidst a huge pile of molten scat, which are basically all the other summer blockbusters): it's fun, with a good pacing, with action and narration blend pretty well together without bothering each other, it's ironic but not a self-parody, the villains are over-the-top like in a comic book or anime, it looks good (not a blatant cluster-fuck like Michael Bay's movies), and it features sword fighting ninjas with jetpacks, among a million other things... it's one of those movies who not only is proud and unapologetic about its own nature, but it's also directed with a certain savoir fare. It's overall enjoyable and I couldn't stop yelling "G.I.JOE!!!!" for a while after that. And before you say anything, know this, I'm a film critic that every year goes to Venice Film Festival to watch so-called "Film d'Autor". So, I have an open mind about what to base my criticism from.
I believe Moviebob can explain why that movie is awesome better than me. Check his video review.
Anyway, it's ultimately just an individual opinion, just like yours :)
You just made me a really sad panda. =( I cannot for the life of me imagine why someone would like that movie.
I wouldn't have said anything about your arguments even if you didn't tell me you're a film critic and whatnot, don't worry about that, I just thought it was probably the worst action movie made in the history of over-the-top action movies.
Though we won't get anywhere with this, so I'll just drop it.

Cool effects though!
Can't be possibly worse than "Revenge of the Fallen".
I disagree. Not saying RotF was good (it was pretty damn bad), but not worse than G.I.Joe.
At least, in "G.I.Joe" you can actually understand what in the world is going on in the action sequences... when I think back on any Michael Bay movie ever made, ALL I can think of is a blurry mess with no shape, the sunlight burning my eyeballs and some American flag peeking from an angle... and that umbelievable twat that also starred in the fourth Indiana Jones movie (a whole legacy of Suck!)
Well, understanding what is going on is easy in G.I.Joe, since it has the most predictable plot I've ever seen.
I don't agree... but at it least it IS a plot, with some genuine bits of self-consciousness... not a total utter mess with no pacing, no plot, no basys, no characterization, no funny jokes, no good special effects, no direction, no FILM... but with some racism.
Oh boy, do I love to hate Michael Bay? He makes it sooooooooooooo easy!
I see.

Don't get me wrong, I am by no means defending Michael Bay. I'm not a fan of his, nor do I think I ever will be. I just can't stand G.I.Joe. Just as long as we are clear on that, I'm fine with everything you just said about him.

Samurai Jack didn't happen till the early 2000's....

Anywho, the 90's should stay dead. I want to relive the 90's on my time, not have a big, cultural rebirth of a immature, annoying decade where boybands reign supreme.

The 90's were the best decade for music. I would kill to have such good music back.

Hey, if it means they'll finally bring back good cartoons instead of the (mostly) crappy cartoons they have now, I'm all for it.

Stupid tweenie-pop-obsessed, reality-TV loving culture...
Agreed. Steven Spielberg should get drop movie directing, gather his crew from the mid-to-late 90's and go to town creating new animated shows reminiscent of the Animaniacs, Pinky & the Brain, and Freakazoid. Those were awesome shows that not only had the mandatory zaniness for cartoons, but included a good deal of witty humor as well.

Subpar. Disturbed is a closer-to-a-joke band. NU-metal of the 2000 spawned some rather bland bands. I will though agree in your defense of Airbourne and Blink 182, but Kanye? No.

I grew up in the 90s, first 10 years of my life where pretty good, I wouldn't mind a repeat of that, better then the last ten years for the most part.

Screw the present day stuff (I looking at you present days cartoons and music well most of them aren't great)! I would gladly welcome the 90's with open arms even if it will be a brief moment. Ok this is mostly nostalgia talking but have you properly compare the present days stuff to the 90's?
Well actually I would prefer if it was the early 00's that would come back (espically the cartoons and dance musics).

I have to divide the 90s in half. In the first half, when I was in high school, we had grunge, alt-rock, groove metal, and second-wave goth/industrial. Awesome. In the second half, we had post-grunge, pop-punk, boy bands, Britney & Cristina, nu-metal, and electronica. Crap.

And I agree with the OP: I liked the GI Joe movie. The brutal flashback fight between 10-year-old Snake Eyes and 10-year-old Storm Shadow alone was worth the price of admission.

Underrated? Are you kidding? If the Norse Mythology was even more used for cheap references as it is now, "Family Guy" would end up doing a parody of "Ring of the Nibelung"! Seriously, classic fantasy, modern fantasy, science fiction, sci-fi fantasy, cyber-punk, heavy metal iconography, and comics.... yeah, don't forget comics! And movies based from comics.
How about using some other ancient creed for a change? Like Induism (like in the movie "Avatar", if you know what Avatar really means).
Anyway, the Ragnarok is kind of cool.
