I... TOTALLY... EFFFFFIN'.... AGREE! They were both reminiscent of old-school Hollywood animation, (from the golden times of Tex Avery and Chuck Jones), plus they blended pretty well with the Pop-cultural-based humour of the post-"Simpsons" era!

And thank you for helping to boost my faith in humanity. I see those references cited incorrectly fairly often and I'm glad that there are others who have taken an interest in one of the most underated mythologies. :)
Underrated? Are you kidding? If the Norse Mythology was even more used for cheap references as it is now, "Family Guy" would end up doing a parody of "Ring of the Nibelung"! Seriously, classic fantasy, modern fantasy, science fiction, sci-fi fantasy, cyber-punk, heavy metal iconography, and comics.... yeah, don't forget comics! And movies based from comics.
How about using some other ancient creed for a change? Like Induism (like in the movie "Avatar", if you know what Avatar really means).
Anyway, the Ragnarok is kind of cool.
Hmm, perhaps under rated was the wrong way to put it? Under recognized maybe? It just seems that despite its prevalence very few people understand where the references are coming from. Just because they're common doesn't mean that they're given the proper recognition.

Paranoid much?

You're right about one thing though; anime back then wasn't loaded with fanservice. Instead they were dubbed by a company that called rice balls "donuts," turned a respectable female character into a stereotypical valley girl, and cut out an entire story arc because they didn't want the kids to know that one of the characters' mother died.
I am not American... didn't suffer YOUR worldly renouned BAD voice dubbing... I DID, although, suffered some of your bloody EDITING! Luckly, in my country (Italy, the worst country in the world for many OTHER reasons), we used to take most anime series directly from Japan... In fact, we knew old school anime franchises like Tatsunoko's "Yatterman" and "Casshan" better than most Marvel or DC superheroes... before becoming movies, that is.
I keep forgetting the Escapist community is multi-national. Apologies for the misunderstanding.

(Still liked the '90s though. And no future cash-in on my nostalgia is gonna change that because my memories are bulletproof).

I was thinking about this the other day when Nickelodeon was labelling the 90s Mighty Morphin Power Rangers as "Brand New"
did that with power rangers too? last summer when i was at my moms, they were showing the old dbz episodes and saying they were new. only new part was the intro, didn't even clean the animation up any

Because the 90s was the greatest decade... Pretty much ever. Looking forward to it.

It can't be that bad! The nineties had all the best superhero cartoons! And the best Disney cartoons.

Samurai Jack didn't happen till the early 2000's....

Anywho, the 90's should stay dead. I want to relive the 90's on my time, not have a big, cultural rebirth of a immature, annoying decade where boybands reign supreme.
Didn't boy bands emerge and "reign supreme" as '98 came to a close? Are we forgetting about hip hop, alternative, techno (not "electronica," dammit!), trip-hop, and in some cases blues, fusion, punk and swing?

I guarantee I hate boy bands as much as anyone on here, even Mr. Emu who's been antagonizing me all day. But the trend died at the beginning of the 90's with New Kids on the Block and Milli Vanilli and re-emerged during the twilight of the decade. There was already inescapable electronic pop like the Spice Twits and Aqua, but these "musicians" were far outnumbered by the Nine Inch Nails, Dave Matthews Band's, Bjork's, Red Hot Chile Peppers's and Soundgarden's of the day until the very end of the decade and the beginning of TRL.

People in the 90's took drugs to escape reality and dance all night.
People today take drugs to work more.

Okay, fair enough... "Michael Jackson's Thriller" was awesome. That's pretty much all I care about Michael Jackson.

(On the other hand, that "G.I.Joe" movie was pretty good)
>G.I.Joe
>good

I SERIOUSLY hope you were being sarcastic here, and I was just being an idiot for not noticing. Please tell me this is the case.
I really, seriously think (as a film critic who was never a fan of the original product) that "G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra" is one of the best summer blockbusters I've ever seen (which is the same as to say it was a golden ring amidst a huge pile of molten scat, which are basically all the other summer blockbusters): it's fun, with a good pacing, with action and narration blend pretty well together without bothering each other, it's ironic but not a self-parody, the villains are over-the-top like in a comic book or anime, it looks good (not a blatant cluster-fuck like Michael Bay's movies), and it features sword fighting ninjas with jetpacks, among a million other things... it's one of those movies who not only is proud and unapologetic about its own nature, but it's also directed with a certain savoir fare. It's overall enjoyable and I couldn't stop yelling "G.I.JOE!!!!" for a while after that. And before you say anything, know this, I'm a film critic that every year goes to Venice Film Festival to watch so-called "Film d'Autor". So, I have an open mind about what to base my criticism from.
I believe Moviebob can explain why that movie is awesome better than me. Check his video review.
Anyway, it's ultimately just an individual opinion, just like yours :)
You just made me a really sad panda. =( I cannot for the life of me imagine why someone would like that movie.
I wouldn't have said anything about your arguments even if you didn't tell me you're a film critic and whatnot, don't worry about that, I just thought it was probably the worst action movie made in the history of over-the-top action movies.
Though we won't get anywhere with this, so I'll just drop it.

Cool effects though!
Can't be possibly worse than "Revenge of the Fallen".
I disagree. Not saying RotF was good (it was pretty damn bad), but not worse than G.I.Joe.
At least, in "G.I.Joe" you can actually understand what in the world is going on in the action sequences... when I think back on any Michael Bay movie ever made, ALL I can think of is a blurry mess with no shape, the sunlight burning my eyeballs and some American flag peeking from an angle... and that umbelievable twat that also starred in the fourth Indiana Jones movie (a whole legacy of Suck!)
Well, understanding what is going on is easy in G.I.Joe, since it has the most predictable plot I've ever seen.
I don't agree... but at it least it IS a plot, with some genuine bits of self-consciousness... not a total utter mess with no pacing, no plot, no basys, no characterization, no funny jokes, no good special effects, no direction, no FILM... but with some racism.
Oh boy, do I love to hate Michael Bay? He makes it sooooooooooooo easy!
I see.

Don't get me wrong, I am by no means defending Michael Bay. I'm not a fan of his, nor do I think I ever will be. I just can't stand G.I.Joe. Just as long as we are clear on that, I'm fine with everything you just said about him.

I spent ten awesome years growing up in the nineties. I probably remember them far too fondly, but hell, I'm not against them coming back. They were, at the very least, insanely colourful.

Only thing I miss about the 90's is the music scene when Black Metal bands was burning down churches and human sacrifice. Musicians today are to wimpy and not mentally unstable enough.

For future references, "Samurai Jack" began production in the late 90's... of course, the awesomeness of one product should not be limited by the time period of its conceivement.

The one thing I remember most about the 1990's is gas being less than $1. So, if the 90's does come back, then plz plz PLZ BRING BACK THE .99 CENT/GALLON GAS PRICES!!!

Also, as far as movies go, I think that we should murder Scream before reviving the 90's and continuously remind the director that it was a very, VERY bad idea to make Scream to begin with.

A reasonable amount of Pokemon to catch, Bill Clinton was president, Zelda OOT and MM were new, Crash Bandicoot, and First Person Shooters weren't all the same game.
