If it was happening to me, the ghost. Think about it, the others you can avoid but a spirit can transcend reality simply to terrify you.

I find the zombie horde to be most horrifying. It has been so disappointing in recent years to see zombies running about and apparently having independent thought. The horror to me is of a mindless mass of entities with no reason or motive. The zombies of "World War Z" (hurry up with the movie, hurry up with the movie) are classic to me. They out number us. They may infect us. When they take one of our number they expand their own. They are relentless, unforgiving. You can't reason with them. You can't beg them for mercy.

And of course, if you don't become one of the walking dead, you get eaten. And being consumed by something is an ancient and primordial terror that will forever live in our limbic brain.

1- you forgot to add little girls (F.E.A.R) in your list. They are creepy too.

2- my imagination is my own worst ennemy in those games.

Which of these choices would be the equivalent of the Pyramid Head from Silent Hill 2?

Because that "thing" certainly scared me in ways I didn't think were possible.

The zombie horde would easily take the cake were it not for your description of demons. I would definitely want a demon focusing his sights on me and me alone the least, that's fer sure.

I went to a museum once. They were showing art about human horrors. I took a snap of some dolls. Let me tell you something: Those dolls belongs in a horror experience.

I'm looking at the photos and I'm damn scared.

That cracked me up XD

OT: Murderers. Especially the ones with no real motive and just do it for "fun". On the basis that there are people in this world that will gladly and willingly snuff out a life.

The quote "If it bleeds, we can kill it!" comes to mind.

Ghosts can normally not be hurt in a easy way (think pointy objects or smash hammers) so that would go too top one.

Of course there is always.... Ghostbusters!

....

What do you mean they are fake?!

Monsters. It's a matter of luck stumbling upon them, but if you're near, they're a killing machine, and you are their prey. They can't be reasoned with. And with evolution now fully conirmed, what the fuck kinds of animals could be out there?

Says the guy writing a zombie script[blatant self-promotion FTW]

Demons aren't on the list, but that's #1

The results of a Curse is #2

Vengeful Ghosts are right behind that as #3 (and the only one on the list it seems)

Ironically I hadn't thought of that connection.

In general it comes down to the fact that most things that are scary can be fought. Demons are a primal force of malevolence, on a massive level. Fallen Angels basically. While they can affect you in most cases, there isn't a whole heck of a lot you can do back in most circumstances. Besides being open to a demonic attack says some things about you which aren't generally good to begin with.

With curses I was looking at things like "Friday The 13th" or "The Grudge" (though these could overlap with vengeful ghosts). The basic point being that the "creatures" are the side effect of something else, and more or less the flashy manifestation of something more or less primal and intangible.

Vengeful Ghosts are again in a similar vein, they can usually affect you, but not vice versa.

It's a common thread in this case because it comes down to being out of control.

Zombies, Murderers, etc... they can all be fought. Scary yes, but understandable on a level. Sure having a zombie eat your guts while your still alive is horrible, but there are wild animals that might do similar things. In the end I can grab guns, tools, whatever and fight them or run away. In the above cases it's not an option.

"Drag Me To Hell" was interesting, but look at say "Thinner" as another example of a curse, and actually one of the things that actually got to me as a horrific idea. Same basic principle in the end, but a lot older.
