Refuse to give them your facebook and deviant art profiles. They can threaten to expel you and you can sue them for an atrocious breach of privacy.

I try not to make people choose between extremes but I have to wonder your opinion:
(short for TL;DR people) It has recently come to my attention that after a decision to 'crack down' on cyber-bullying my school's authorities have decided to monitor each and every one of students' contributions to anything that can be accessed with a computer and a modem; this means that they have full access to private messages and posts on anything from Facebook to Deviantart, removing any illusion of privacy we have on the internet.
So I ask you a question: does this (the removal of internet privacy) seem like a fair way to deal with cyber bullying in schools?
Well, if the removal of privacy only applies to when you are in school, then I'd say it's fair. Don't want teachers invading your privacy, then don't use facebook or private messages at the school. Going without internet chatting or whatever for a few hours at school isn't going to kill anyone.
This does not apply at school (a PROXY server prevents it) They actually have access to what we write at any time, anywhere.
How?
That's not even legal.

It's not that simple when you are being harassed every moment of your life.
Yes it is. I went through various forms of abuse, both physical and mental, for years. Then I realized that the bullies weren't worth the anguish I was putting myself through and it suddenly stopped meaning anything. People are going to hate other people, for a menagerie of reasons, and there's nothing anyone can do to stop it. The only thing you can really do is come to the realization that the bullies are simply wrong, and therefore aren't worth the minimal effort needed to acknowledge them or their actions.

Third option, there is no expectation of privacy when using pcs that belong to someone else whether it be the school or a corporation or even your best friend. However, what happens outside of school hours, off school grounds and on non-school equipment is completely out of their jurisdiction. The only way they can get access to your private messages is if you give them your passwords and logon credentials to all of those services or if they grab them while you are using a computer proxied through their servers. But even then they have no right to follow your actions outside of their sphere of influence. If one of your classmates is bullying you outside of school then it is the jurisdiction of your parents and the "proper" authorities not the school.

I know its been said already.
But what has anything outside school got to do with school.
I'll answer that.

NOTHING thats what. It would be like the school deciding they didn't like the way you do homework so a teacher follows you home to watch you doing the work. It is totally immoral and should be brought to court as a case of stalking.

Simple solution to this: Don't use facebook at school.

Besides, cyber bullying is overblown. I'd rather take cyber bullying than normal bullying any day.
Same here, atleast with cyber bullying I can send this to them.

Protect them like this while at school, yes. Nowhere else. It's not their job to raise the people. If they're getting bullied outside school, it's not the school's deal. The kids shouldn't stand for this.

As others have said, if you cant handle rude people on the internet, don't go on the internet! What an idea! I don't know what's happened to people lately that makes them so sensitive to a line of text from some random person. And if it's someone from school, why are they on your facebook? You AIM account? Email? Jesus it takes like 3 clicks to remove someone from ever contacting you on a computer.

These types of people just need to get a spine, im sorry, but i just can't see how anybody can be so offended by what's said on the internet and how they act like it can't be avoided.

Real bullying though, yes, that is terrible and should be punishable by death. Ok not really.o_O

I'm very glad you survived your abuse and can hold your head up high.

But don't ever tell those that care being abused, that they simply need to get over it. Nothing makes me more sick or disgusted than this. Doing so can harm them even more; being told it is their fault they feel this way, and that they need to get over it.
You're misconstruing what I said. It's in no way the fault of the victim and never will be. The fault lies with the bully, and they should be punished with extreme prejudice wherever possible.

What I'm saying is that caring about the opinions of bullies and fools is foolishness. If someone really cares about that stuff, they'll be miserable for their entire lives, because there will always be someone ready, willing and able to insult them. If you want to be happy, you have to come to the realization that the opinions of others, especially those who clearly dislike or even hate you.

Whatever damage has been done leading up to that revelation can be harsh, and takes a lot to get through, but it's never going to get any better until they reach that point.

Problem: Bufoons in the school system insist on monitering students obesessively, because somehow they can do that when they're not using school-provided computers.

Logical Solution: Hire everyone involved with the creation and upkeep of the system to work for Microsoft, because evidentally they're all hacking wizards and can, in time, rewrite modern computer science so that it works like it does in the movies. I mean, seriously. Those guys have got the moves.

Humorous Solution: Students should, if they have the nerve, browse furry porn all day long and refuse to use their computers for anything else.

It's not like they'll be monitoring any posts people make on the internet. It just means that they'll have access if they actually need it to prevent serious problems in the school.

What the fuck? How is that even legal?

And honestly, the suicide and pain resulting from extreme cyber bullying is terrible, but this whole problem is being made out to be far bigger then it actually is. There are much, much more pressing and damaging social issues among schools and teens that don't get the attention they deserve.

Could you just not give them such information and block them when possible?

I doubt they have the right to access your private things out of school.
Actually they can they own the labtop, my school does the same thing.
