I think Fallout. But anyone who dos't think Portal would not make a good movie look up the movie Moon. It has only like 2 characters and is all set in one place.

My vote goes to Fallout. There aren't enough post-apocalyptic films these days.
I know right? When will the world finally end so we stop waiting for movies to do it, and we can actually get our post-apocalypse on?

If I have to vote for one of the three you chose from, I gotta go with Fallout with Gears a close second. Fallout would just seem more interesting to me.

But if I had my own choice, I'd say either Mass Effect (with an original script based off the setting but not off the games) or an Elder Scrolls game.

A movie based on a game heavily influenced by a couple of movies (A Boy And His Dog and Mad Max)? That's bringin' it full circle.

Besides, you've already got a great cast from the game itself---Liam Neeson as James and Malcolm MacDowell as President Eden. Throw in a good enough young actor to play the Lone Wanderer (got any good young male celebrities who are openly or closeted gamers?) That's enough of a cast list to put on a theatrical poster, at least! Plus Erik Dellums as Three Dog. Mandatory. Lucy Liu's about the right age to play Madison Li, isn't she?

Yeah. Fallout in general, Fallout 3 in particular. Great setting for a movie, more so than most games. Hollywood special effects + ruined Washington, DC would mean appeal beyond the gamer audience.

A funny thing. Gears of War is all the more likely one, but I think Fallout would be better. That is, after Interplay and Bethesda have another fight over who owns it.
Excuse me if i'm a bit in the dark about this but didn't interplay get shut down or something and sold their ip's and behtesda bought the rights to Fallout?

Also personally my choice would be gears fallout is way to expansive to be put into a movie and portal would not make a good movie in the slightest no character no dialog apart from glados it would just be boring to watch.

Gears of War is already pretty much a movie. Plotwise I mean. However, I think that when someone actually tries to make a movie out of it, (and trust me, it will happen) I highly doubt the movie will be any good. Which is a shame, because Gears of War 2 was actually pretty excellent.
The game it's most like to make a decent move of is probably Fallout. But that would have some serious problems with plot. Just because the makers will be like:

Director #1: Who should this movie be about?

Director #2: How about a silent protagonist trying to make it in the Wasteland?

Director #1: Don't be daft, that would never work! Let's make it about the Chinese invading Alaska! A sort of "Saving private Ryan" only set in Alaska, and with Laser Rifles and Plasma Mines!

That is just what I think will happen. I think it's like Yahtzee said in Extra Punctuation: most games don't have a 'three act' schematic, so it's hard to make a decent movie out of a game. And seriously, do you want someone to come along and make a god-awful movie of a videogame franchise you LOVE?

Anyway, I voted for Fallout. So it looks like you're the winner, Your Majsety of the Sandbox.

Fallout would make the best movie, whereas Gears of War would be the easiest movie to make. Portal simply wouldn't work as a movie at all.

You only need to place your film in ruined America, bring in a few famous faces and shoot some RadScorpions or something, to make a Fallout film. The open endedness gives it potential. You just make your own story that fits with the setting and overall feel of the place. That's why I voted Fallout.

Thanks. ^_^ I can almost taste that steak and beer. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, steak and beer.

Oh, and the protagonist from Fallout isn't mute, he speaks. You just don't hear him speak, but what he says is reflected in the speech options. (I usually say them out loud, in character.)

It's not like Zelda, where everyone can read Link's facial expressions and grunts perfectly, somehow.

Also, maybe they could twist it up and have the Vault Dweller be female. ^_^

Assuming that any of them would be done very well, I'd say it's a very tough choice between Fallout and Gears, as both could be gritty action films with a serious and compelling narrative to them. Personally I'd prefer to see a Gears one, as I have no idea what a Fallout film's story would be.
I won't count Portal because... just NO. One of the best games ever made, but just it's... a game. And not just any game, it just... the gameplay is the main feature I'd say, that's it's charm, and it would lose that in a film.

What does that have to do with anything? I agree on your casting and then casting a young actor, but being a gamer has zero to do with who should get the role. If anything, they should get some unknow face with real potential, it would work better if the guy is unknown. Mel Gibson absolutely nailed the role, so you'd probably need to have a slightly different take on it to keep it fresh.

Mad Max is pretty much a Fallout movie, so I see this easily working. It should follow a lone protagonist wandering the roads, having some crazy and strange encounters and then around the midpoint be involved in a large, unfolding drama of a story or location where he lands (Which would envolve either mutants, the Enclave or both). You know, Mad Max plot-progression stuff.

It's not really a bet since it's based on opinion rather than a definitive answer.

However, if the result of this poll depends on it, then Fallout. Gears of War would be Bruckheimer garbage, and Portal isn't suited to being a movie; I could imagine it turning into a very sterile Saw parody...
