Sex ads are not as marketable as they used to be, The average consumer has finally wised up... sort of.

Well it does get my attention. And I'm definitely more likely to buy something that I'm aware of than something I don't even know exists... Or let's say that we have two identical products (or magazines for instance) and one has an attractive woman on it, I'd definitely buy that one. I'm a man of simple pleasures.

Sex sells. It just doesn't sell to me. "Her breasts are large" is not a good argument for why I should buy a product.
This, sure I'll appreciate a bit of eye candy on TV, won't make me more likely to buy that product though.

Sex always turned me against a product, because it just tells me that the product sucks.
If they can't think of anything to say about it other than "hot slutty chicks will jump your bones if you buy our product," it's clearly not worth buying.
Good boy Max!

Doggy want a bone? Yes he does!

Ehem...I agree with Max, using sex as a sales tool puts me off.

Yes.

As far as associating sex with the product:

The trick isn't that you'll associate sex with the product (though some do, some don't, but the phrase "everyone does, except me" is a little off to me, especially when more than one person claims it). The trick is that you'll probably pay more attention to that advert than you will others. It's similar to the reason that onboard computer alerts in many military applications/vehicles, were voiced by females (prior to female pilots/operators). Of course, it generally doesn't work if you aren't interested in whatever type of product it is to begin with. No matter how much I pay attention to the commercial for dog food with sexy people in it, I'm not going to buy dog food as I don't have a dog.

As far as the actual sale of sex:

Well, it's illegal in the States to sell sexual acts, but it is still a lucrative business no matter where you are. Also, see: porn industry.

sex will always sell cause humans will always be interested in seeing naked or half naked people.

it works both ways too, put a half naked muscled hunk in a commercial for women and they'll buy it

Sex doesn't "sell" for me, it only attracts my attention. I mean I won't sit and watch/play/whatever something if it bores me, just because I saw boobs a few minutes ago.

Sigh sexual stuff always sells, has always sold and current still sells. Not to me anymore because I'm not interested in women I know I will never meet them to their sex appeal really is lost.

Sex totally sells but it has to be targeted for its market. While I love chicks in Bikinis, you'll never catch me watching a crappy reality show, or baywatch just to see them, on the other hand when I was watching Eureka and I saw Alison Blake in her undies, I was glued to the TV (six pack abs, yummmm).

More to the point, I can't watch a bad show just for the scantily clad chicks but if a good show with a good plot has some sexy going on, it totally sells me.

Just look at Evony. This guy made a blog post showing how its advertising campaign abandoned all pretence of anything to do with the game itself: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/001286.html
Finally, someone says something. These cringe-worthy Evony ads are everywhere. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one that could see them... >.>

Embarassingly terrible. You need to have at least some subtletly to pull this sort of thing off...

Im getting pretty tired of it in videogames tbh. With some games its obvious their targeting a young male audience with the amount of T&A. (Soul calibur 4, X blades etc.)

Makes me feel embarrased to be part of the target audience.

As most men who watch TV know; a tv-show or advertisement showing women giving away erotic poses will most likely attract more people(mostly just men) to that channel.
Frankly though, I'm kinda fed up with it; Constantly seeing women shaking their a$$ in front of the camera to get more ratings begins to turn on me. I'm willing to shout at the producers to get original again and dump the whole 'oh-look-titties'-idea that's dominating the tv for over a decade!

So now I'm asking you: Does it really sell anymore for you?
It doesn't really work for me, as my opinion on what makes a woman sexy isn't exactly the norm. Some big-titted blonde slut with too much plastic surgery isn't my kind of woman, and thus doesn't appeal to me or seem like a viable marketing strategy to get my...er...demographic?

Or maybe it's from being a broadcasting/radio major and having to study all that shit.

Um, of course it works? Easiest way to capture my attention is either women, or beer. Now, imagine hot women in a beer commercial. Sign me up for AA now, brother.
