Um... no? Really, give em a few years until you're confident they understand the difference between humor and jackassery.

Pretty self explainitory question here.

I'm asking because my 6 yr old cousin is over and he's watching King of the Hill. I personally don't think he should be watching it, because there's stuff in there that he does not understand and shouldn't know about at his age. I'm not the one watching him, my mom is, but she's not in the room RIGHT this second and I'm not sure if I should make him change the channel or go get her to. He doesnt really listen to me, so telling him "(Name) you cant watch that, change the channel" wouldn't do much good coming from me. I'm not even sure which episode it is either. I'm concerned because it's more ADULT oriented normally, and I mean it is called ADULTswim for a reason.

So escapists, thoughts?
Its all up to the parent or guardian of the child, i know my nephew and niece have been watching family since they've been 4. Nothing social has really happened that would indicate it to be a bad thing, I think they just laugh cause of the poop jokes or the things any child would laugh at. There is no way that they are getting the deeper more subtle and more adult jokes.

I watched Futurama when I was that age, so I'm not going to say no. It all depends on the child, really.

If he enjoys it, sure. Just make sure he's smart enough not to yell out curse words.

Because King of the Hill is reality. Your argument taken properly should be "boot him off the TV and put him outside".

Not a bad idea. At any rate, he shouldn't be watching King of the Hill, I was less than impressed with the episode I saw (the main character moons a politician, his friend takes the blame... politician wants to have sex with the friend!?!?), don't you have a cartoon channel playing Looney Tunes or something? Don't start pushing the "is this okay?" envelope right now, just don't.

For those who asked: "Does it matter if he doesn't understand it?" The answer is "yes" because he'll go repeat something from it. I personally think he's emotionally mature enough to handle it, but that's my opinion. My mom (his aunt) was in the middle of an important phone call so I couldn't ask her opinion on it, nor could I call his parents and ask if they let him watch it. Come to find out, they don't even have actual tv, just dvd's of the show's he's allowed watching - Spongebob mainly.

I've seen King of the Hill, Family Guy, and most everything on AdultSwim. Obviously I'm not the parent, and like I said, my mother was/is watching him, and was on an important phone call so I couldn't ask her, nor call his parents. My mother has never seen the show, I tried getting her to watch it with me once, she didn't like it and wouldn't watch it again.

I realize it all depends on the child and what the parents allow them to watch. I personally didn't think he needed to be watching it, he didn't seem all that interested. Actually shut it off on his own and ran out to be with my mother anyway. So I guess it resolved itself.

King of the Hill? Yes, because Hank Hill is one of the most morally upright characters in TV history, next to Mr. Rodgers. Adult Swim? No, not at all, walk in there and turn the TV off...

(Hank is a bit bigoted against homosexuals and the like, but eh.)

...

I think in one of the episodes that helped him get over that.

OT: I dont see whats wrong. its KotH. Its not hte worst show that could be on AS. I mean, its not like Aqua Unit Patrol Squad 1 or Squidbillies or Super Jail or anything. I wouldnt worry about, I would just watch it with him and if you see something you would disapprove of if you were watching it while you were six, then turn it off or suggest something else.

Probably not, though honestly, I can't see much wrong with it. I mean, I saw my first South Park episode when I was around five (older sisters don't care much for age limits), and it hasn't really done anything to me...

Right?

Over here in the UK, they rated all five dvd boxsets of King of the Hill certificate 12 because of some drug use and mild sexual humour.

From my personal experience there have been a lot of adult-related episodes that are a bit over the head of children and somewhat inappropriate. But occasionally there is the odd family safe/comedic episode now and again (the episode where they all volunteer to be firefighters is a hoot and a half)

It might be prudent to check the tv guide to see which episode it is and then cross check that with say Wikipedia, so you get a proper explanation of what happens in the episode and make a judgement on weather it's inappropriate to watch or not

Eh, King of the Hill isn't bad. Its one of the few that actually has a lesson usually. Now Family Guy, American Dad, or most of the other stuff on Adult Swim those I would shy away from.

It's just King of the Hill. The most vulgar episode I could think of is the one where Bobby accidentally sees Luanne naked. But here are some shows that he "shouldn't" watch.
*Family Guy(the new seasons, not the old.)
*Superjail(very gory, do not watch!)
*Aqua teen hunger force/unit patrol squad(Also very gory)
*American Dad(maybe, it can get messed up too)
*The Boondocks(You do NOT want him quoting Uncle Ruckus(no relation))
*Squidbillies(Gory, disturbing, and sacrilegious )
*Metalpocalypse(Gory, again, and lots of evil and drug abuse.)
*Pretty much all of Adult Swim's anime

I really do love these shows, but they aren't for everybody. (I haven't watched children's hospital.)

Personally, if I was not exposed to that kind of humor, I would not have turned out the way I am now. I would shelter my kids from far worse things..

I grew up watching Alien, Aliens, Robocop, Terminator movies totally uncensored. Seriously people need to stop sheltering their kids or when they see some of the harsher things they're not going to be able to handle it and fold.

I do not believe in the ideas of censorship. Look at the shows we had as a kid, rocko and animaniacs had some highly inappropriate scenes, but we were kids and they didn't register.

I mean it all comes down to how his parents want to raise him.

I agree. Like in Dora the Explorer. If you tell a mugger to not mug, he won't go "Aww man..." and walk away ashamed. NO, he'd stab your ass!! I have a friend who had that happen to him before (minus the Dora part of course) and luckily he was alright.

Same here, I watched the first Blade movie when I was about 8 years old. That and a healthy dose of Jerry Springer describes my childhood viewing.
