I grew up watching Alien, Aliens, Robocop, Terminator movies totally uncensored. Seriously people need to stop sheltering their kids or when they see some of the harsher things they're not going to be able to handle it and fold.
Same here, I watched the first Blade movie when I was about 8 years old. That and a healthy dose of Jerry Springer describes my childhood viewing.
Blade is pretty violent but I mean Robocop had a guy being blown to pieces. I'll tell you something man after that I knew from that day forward that being shot wasn't fun. (I knew before that but c'mon)

Well, I was watching The Simpsons, Futurama, King of the Hill and Family Guy when I was 6 (my parents drew the line at South Park).
Considering how I am today... perhaps he shouldn't.
Unless if he wants to become a being neither man, machine nor god...

As has been said, I think King of the Hill is perfectly fine for a kid to watch. It's the most tame of the adult oriented animated shows, mainly because it's actually 'adult'. It usually deals with real issues that people or families might be presented with, and at time is completely over the top, and presents them in a humorous light. It's not considered adult because there's tremendous violence, constant cursing, and toilet humour. And honestly Hank Hill isn't a half-bad role model. He works hard, he raised a family, has a calm demeanor most of the time, takes care of his friends and family, and tries to be understanding of most people. They do have their crude jokes, but as you said, most likely a six year old wouldn't understand them.

The rest of adult swim, I'd keep a six year old away from. Some great shows like The Boondocks and Metalocalypse, but yeah, not quite kid friend entertainment. The Boondocks does teach life lessons, and it's really an interesting show about race relations, but a 6 year old probably shouldn't hear Uncle Ruckus (again, no relation).

King of the Hill is the least of your concerns when it comes to controvercial cartoons for kids to watch - even the Simpsons is usually "worse" than it.

It's one of those things where my instinct from the way I was brought up says "HELL NO!"

... But then I realize he probably doesn't understand 90% of what's going on. So I guess it wouldn't matter a LOT.

Especially since King of the Hill isn't especially crude.

I grew up on the Simpsons. Came out the year I was born. I turned out fine.

Also I liked it for a lot of the slapstick and only getting the raunchier or deeper meaning humor when I was in my teens.

my 7 year old loves Family guy, she watches it every day. She doesn't repeat the stuff she hears and has a mature and intelligent discussion. My cousin... i'd never let that kid near a tv with any of the above on.

It's just King of the Hill. The most vulgar episode I could think of is the one where Bobby accidentally sees Luanne naked. But here are some shows that he "shouldn't" watch.
*Family Guy(the new seasons, not the old.)
*Superjail(very gory, do not watch!)
*Aqua teen hunger force/unit patrol squad(Also very gory)
*American Dad(maybe, it can get messed up too)
*The Boondocks(You do NOT want him quoting Uncle Ruckus(no relation))
*Squidbillies(Gory, disturbing, and sacrilegious )
*Metalpocalypse(Gory, again, and lots of evil and drug abuse.)
*Pretty much all of Adult Swim's anime

I really do love these shows, but they aren't for everybody. (I haven't watched children's hospital.)
What's wrong with AS's anime? They just show stuff like FMA, Bleach, and Kekkaishi.

It's all light Shonen stuff. If they started going into Seinen (Something like Death Note is borderline Shonen. Any darker than that, and it starts to go into Seinen territory), then I'd be like 'OH HELL NO, he isn't ready for it at 6.' But...

I know most people are all for censoring everything when it comes to children, but maybe that's not the best idea.

When I was in school, all the kids whose parents censored TV, movies etc. ended up being socially maladjusted and eventually antisocial.

The other side of the coin were the kids whose parents ignored them, letting them watch whatever they want. The result was kids with no boundaries, no control. You might say that is an argument in favor of censorship, since these kids turned out poorly, but I have to disagree. While there is a correlation between lack of censorship and bad behavior, the true problem is parents who do not care.

So here's my suggestion: watch the show with the kid. When something comes up that you find morally questionable, talk to the kid about it. If you hear a bad word, tell the kid that it's not something they should say. If someone uses drugs, point it out and tell them that doing drugs is bad. Guidance, not censorship, is the best way to create a child who is not merely ignorant, but actively chooses to do the right thing. After all, they're going to know anyway at some point, might as well use the time when they are young and impressionable to point them in the right direction.

Also, 6 year olds understand WAY MORE than you imagine. Most of them have a rudimentary knowledge of sex, drugs and all the bad things people try to keep from them. They don't know all the details, but they're curious and they absorb everything around them. Turning off the TV only blocks 5-10% of all the bad things they're going to pick up. 75-80% comes from schools, so if you REALLY want to censor your kids, don't let them go to school and talk to other kids. Now that's a kid who's going to mail bombs to strangers when they get older, but hey, at least they don't know what a $^%%&$* is!

King of the Hill, in my opinion, is okay for a six year old to watch. The 'adult humor' that was in the show was very light and subtle. And, like it's been said before, nearly every episode had a moral, or at least had the bad people receive some form of punishment for their misdeeds.
Family Guy and American Dad would depend on the episode, the same goes for Aqua Teen Hunger Force (which my oldest niece watched when she was three or four).
Others, like Venture Brothers, Super Jail and the like should never be seen by kids under twelve (even that's pushing it.

I'm not his parent, I'm his cousin. I don't see the point of watching a show with him if I have to explain everything. Because I am NOT his parent, I don't know what he is and is NOT allowed watching. I just didnt see a point in why he was watching it anyway. Like I said, I am NOT the parent here. I have seen the show, it's been a while, but from the episodes I've seen I didn't want him going home, repeating something of it to either his mom, dad, or little sister. I know he's going to hear worse in school, I did! I felt like my parents kept me under a rock sometimes. His dad used to watch the Simpson's and no longer does. I know he's not allowed watching that at least.

I get it depends on the parents and the kid's maturity/mentality level. His isn't that high. Granted he might not understand everything in the show, he'll understand enough that he'll go repeat it, or be asking for beer or something at home. I didn't want his mother upset with my mother for him seeing a show that she didnt know he was watching because of being on the phone.

I went to play Black Ops the other night and he walked into the room, so I left my PS3 on the main home/options screen. I keep him away from that and Borderlands. Actually, I'll only really play WoW or Mirror's Edge around him. Soul Calibur IV not normally.

I know King of the Hill isn't violent, normally. I figured he doesnt need to go around telling people "I'm going to kick your ass" or whatever else. Knowing how he is, he would definitely repeat some of it. His little sister is only 2 years old, and if he repeats it, then she will too. Monkey-see, monkey-do is how it normally goes with them. He was swearing at 2 years old because his parents didn't always watch what they said around him, and started correcting that so that habit was broke early.

I wasn't saying King of the Hill was vulgar either. Just didn't see the point/need for a 6yr old to watch it. He had been outside all day with my mom, and is always asking to go outside while he's here anyway. Of course, it was dark outside and about 9pm here while he was watching it and it wasn't that long. I think he got bored because when I walked by heading to the bathroom, he had his pj's on and was running into the other room with my mom, and when I returned, the tv was off and he was crawling into bed. So he either got bored, or my mom saw what he was watching and wasn't happy. Either way, he was only watching it until the first commercial.

I wasn't worried about it, just a little concerned. I didn't want to be hearing it from my mom about how "He's not supposed to be watching that! You're an adult! You should know better!" or whatever she'd say. It's like "Ok, I see where it could be an issue... But the kid doesn't really listen to me, what do you want me to do?"

My parents let me watch King of the Hill when I was six. Of course this was back when the series played on Fox. Episodes were edited for time so some of the content was censored.

Still, watching the uncut versions on Adult Swim is pretty tame by today's standards.

No, it'll be inappropriate material and half the shit they probably wouldn't even get, minimum age I'm reckoning 10 and even then that's young.

The things is, when people watch certain shows or play certain games, the end result is always the same. Ether parent doesn't seem to care or they say no (which makes kids do it even more) It'd be better if you talked with the child after watching the episode and explaining things to them.

His parents care, but I'm not going to be the one to sit there with him through the show and explain anything he doesn't get. I'm not the parent, that's their job, or my mothers if his parent's say it's "OK" for him to watch it.

EDIT: Considering my mom doesn't even like the show, I'm guessing he's not allowed watching it. And he has no actual cable at home, just the DVD player and DVD's his parents allow him to watch.
