Ah. There is the other problem.

The RRoD's.
How many of you who have owned Xbox's got a Red Ring of Death?
And if not, how long have you had yours..?

And for comparison, how many people have had PS3's that have died?
I think i've ever only heard from a couple of people that their Ps3's completely died on them, but it seems to be kind of a common occurrence among 360 owners?
I have had one RROD.

Friend #1 has had one RROD.

Friend #2 has had one RROD.

Friend #3 has had his PS3 break 4 times.
Ugh. Really don't want to have to deal with that.
Do people just beat the shit out of their systems or what? I've ever had any problems with my ps1, ps2, Xbox, computers, or anything else electronic that i've ever owned. Is it completely random, or what?

And before you ask, NO, I am not trying to start a VS thread. I'm not asking which one is better or worse, I just sincerely want to get your opinion on which console I should get. YES I do realize that there are other threads on this and I'm sure you get this question all the time on the Escapist, but I really do need to know which one I should get.

Anyways,
I guess I'm what you'd call an ace of all games. I'll play anything as long as its fun. Except for Sports games.
But I do like driving games. :3

I'm mostly a computer gamer, and I've played anything from Doom to Dragon Age.
I'm currently playing MW2, Sc2 Beta and HoN (Hero's of Newerth) Beta, and now some more Diablo 2. Seriously, i'm really not that picky about the type of game I play, so the game types won't be limiting which console I pick.
I have a new 40 inch HDTV, and I really don't care about the Bluray in the PS3's because the Desktop that i'll be buying will have a Bluray player.

This will be my first console that I actually own. I've played everything up from Nintendo, but it was always my parents. This will TRULY be my first console that is mine.

You have ONE day to decide, Escapist. Tomorrow I will be buying the console.
Don't let me down. :]

EDIT: Okay, a few of you seem to think that i've never played either a Ps3 or Xbox 360.
This is definitly NOT the case. I've played both, and I can't decide which I like playing more.
When it comes to "The Console War" I'm completely neutral. I own both an Xbox 360 and a PS3 and think they're both great. However, if I were to buy a console right now it would definitely be the PS3. While the Xbox 360 may have Gears of War and Halo, I feel that the Xbox 360's inferior hardware may soon start to show. Additionally there are tons of good exclusive PS3 games out there that are just as good as Halo and GOW. Not to mention that the PS3 has free online, as well as blu-ray. Also four words: RED RING OF DEATH (Mine actually broke 4 weeks ago and I just got it back).

Unbiased facts:

Xbox has a bigger game selection.
Xbox has better online.
Xbox has better controllers

PS3 has free online. That instantly makes it awesome. I am unbiased!
PS3 has good exclusives but less overall game selection.
PS3s are very customizable.

Xbox has a failure rate somewhere between 15-25%
PS3 has a failure rate between 1-10%

Xbox can provide free Netflix and usage of Facebook (assuming you bought a LIVE subscription).
PS3 has an internet browser where you can visit websites such as Facebook. PSN also provides a free music video service. I have also heard that PS3 can access Netflix as well.

Xbox discs can't stand up to bluray discs in terms of available space and quality of graphics.

Xbox hard-drives are sold separately or with the console and can be replaced, however, some Xbox consoles don't have a memory card or hard-drive with them at time of purchase.
PS3 console each come with a hard-drive with available space ranging from 20-250 GB (same with Xbox, the amount of space per hard-drive I mean).

PS3 controllers are very unnatural feeling and don't conform to the hand very well, and no amount of controller add-ons can fix this fact (although, this is purely opinion, it's almost a unaninmous opinion based off what I've seen. But feel free to argue on this one).

Xbox consoles tend to be much more affordable while PS3 consoles are on average $50 more.

I'll leave the final verdict to you.

If I am to get a PS3, or a 360, which models should I get?

The PS3 has the new slims, and a few other ones around 60-250 GB's.
Is the Slim better? Faster?
Or just...smaller?

And the Xbox's have the Elites, and the arcades and such.
Does the Elite preform better, or does it just have more Hard drive space?

Which model would I get of each, and why?

When I was picking, I looked at exclusives. PS3 has fewer and fewer I wanted to play. 360 has more and more I wanted to play. And if you're in Europe, Demon Souls still hasn't been released yet.

It also however stemmed from me hating the Playstation execs but that's an entirely different thread, which would be attacked by ye hammer of banning.

It comes down to this really:

If you like playing with mates, online and off, get the 360.

If you like you've played god of war in the past get the PS3.

I like the Xbox 360 because it has some nice exclusives the achievement system is nice and judging by what you like 360 is might be your choice...Be warned though 360 suffers from a terrible case of URGH -ERROR- Hm...Uh crap...Looks like it's four..No. God damn system errors things dead won't turn on...Weird thing was seizing and freezing up now it's dead. F***. Well you know there's always the multi-FAG! ...Screw that they're all jerks who only know one word in the english language. The PS3 has two major advantages over the 360. Crashes less often (Never heard of it crashing but then again I never brought one WAAAY too expensive just for a bluray thingy and not that many games when it came out) and free multiplayer if you like the games thats your prefernance/opinion.

EDIT: Hm now that I think about PS3 crashes less often but I've lost all trust/faith in Microsoft and Sony because my ps2 crashed and my xbox 360 crashed. Cheap bastards. Go take a look at Nintendos products, never had a problem with their products and never heard of one crashing. D: though looks like Sony fixxed their problem. Wth happened with you Microsoft?

Which one do more of your friends have? Go with that one.

It's always worthwhile being able to play with the people you want to play with, either online, or having your own controller you can take over to theirs for splitcreen.

Well I'd suggest a PS3 since almost all games the 360 has that the PS3 doesn't (hardly exclusives because...) come out on the PC. Plus the 360's strongpoint is FPS games which are only 100x better on a PC vs consoles.

But hey the Heroes of Newerth community is a lot like the 12 year olds who mic spam on the 360 so you'd get used to it pretty quick.
[small]I play HoN too :/[/small]

OOh my vote made it 91 a piece. Yeah go PS3, the online is free, the players are more mature and the exclusives are arguably COMPLETELY exclusive, whereas a lot of the 360 games can be bought for PC

<color=purple> Umm, if youre wild about the exclusives for ps3 or any little special thing, you should probably get it IF you have a number of friends who also have one. Other than that, the easy going, casual to hardcore gaming of the 360 and its huge community(most likely including many of your buddies) and the wide variety of games, would probably be your best choice.

Quality or Quantity?

Because Demon's Souls and Valkyria Chronicles (the two best RPGs of this gen IMO) would like to have a word with you.
My friend fell asleep playing Demon's Souls...not exactly the best incentive, but hey its all about personal preference

You should buy the one with the most games on it you'd prefer to own. I don't have either yet, but I'm planning on buying an Xbox 360 because it's cheaper, I already own a PS2 while I never owned an original Xbox (although with the removal of backwards compatability on the PS3 that's not so important now) and it currently has more games on it I'd prefer to buy. When Zone of the Enders 3 and The Last Guardian come out THAT might convince me to get a PS3, but not before.

Why would this thread get locked?
I'm only asking for peoples honest opinions on which console they think I should buy tomorrow.
I'm making a real world choice, and asking for help on it.
Hardly anything against the rules, is it? There's no flaming or "ZOMG FANBOYZ" going on in here. I'm actually slightly surprised.
