Whats the actual gameplay like?

I hear loads of people say its awesome but I have no idea if its say, first person. Third person. Could be an rts for all I know except I don't see how one could be scary...

Also a feint is a tactical manouvre btw.
If your heart does one then... probably a heart attack, call an ambulance :)
I guess it could be classified as a physics based first person horror puzzle game. That says it all really. The atmosphere is really dark and unsettling and your lack of weapons really helps with the scare factor. I suggest you watch a few YouTube videos to get an idea of what the game is like and then decide whether or not you want to buy it.

I'm playing it right now and hope to finish it today. I've been working on it for months, partially because I have a hard time playing longer then half an hour at a time. I get too freaked out and have to stop playing. And my complaint with horror is that I don't find much of it scary.

If you like horror, by all means buy it. Definatly the best(and scariest) PC horror game I've ever played.

Granted, if you've read a fair bit of Lovecraft, a lot of the plot points will seem familiar to you.

If you want to have the shit scared out of you and an experience I guarantee you will not forget: Yes.
If you want a game with good gameplay and have other things you want to buy at the moment: No.

Although seeing how cheap it is right now, you might as well go ahead and get it regardless.

Let's see...

Your "hero" is apparently naked wuss, coward and only miliseconds from heavy heart attack. Permanently. The game is hard only because protagonist is such a pussy. Garret from "Thief" series or Isaac from "Dead Space" would waltz through it constantly yawning, probably taking small nap here and there. ;)

For me it's rather simulator of mentally disabled than true horror. Is it worth buying, playing ? Yes, if you like playing with heavy disadvantages.

That's my 5 cents. :)

If I'd been living in that castle long enough, I think I'd be pretty fucked up too(like Daniel in the game). Hell, I'm visiting from the other side of the screen, and I still have trouble playing for more then half an hour due to getting too creeped out.

Feel free to add reasons why.

Sounds like what a horror game should be.

@OP: Thanks for putting my attention on the Halloween Sale. I just bought the Penumbra pack and Amnesia. Played the demo for the latter one and was very thrilled about it. You should check it out.
Also: 3 Euros. Do it.

I bought it yesterday, and started playing around midnight with one of my friends. We're paranoid of the dark now, but it's a good paranoid. Get it.

Thanks for the input. Just bought the game and will play it later.
lol because there's posts after this.

just a quick note, the puzzles, while relatively simple can become a bit frustrating.

I spent probably 30-40 minutes wandering around, in one section, to find that I had to throw a chair out a cracked window and jump on the ledge to get past a collapsed ceiling.

Warning: Amnesia the dark descent should not be experienced by those who prefer sleeping over curling up in the fetal position and sucking their thumb.

If you like shitting yourself, sure.

We don't know what you like, so go check the page for it yourself. If you have no clue if it's first or third person, then you obviously haven't even looked at its page.

It's £2.60, why would you need to ask whether to buy it or not? It's critically acclaimed and I'll say it again...

IT'S TWO POUNDS SIXTY.

Really though? A thread about whether or not to buy a game like that for that cheap?
Have to agree, it's not that big of a loss if you then find out you don't like it. I personally will not buy it, but it's because im too involved with CCNA training right now, that sundays are the only free days i have, i literally have like 10 minutes before i have to do errands and stuff. But yeah, go for it man pull the trigger

YES, YOU SHOULD. It's an epic and horrifying experience(note that I am not into horror games, but I loved this game). It showed other horror games how SURVIVAL HORROR really is done. It's the kind of game that you don't want to play because of those DAMNED monsters, but you keep on playing to find out what the game has in store for you next. What are you waiting for? GET IT!

*As recommended by Yahtzee*(it was his top 4 of 2010).

It's cheap, has a great story, challenging puzzles, and is dripping with atmosphere and effective use of horror. It's worthy of your library, an "artsy" game made by designers who are willing to break mainstream formulas and try something different (and fun). They succeded.

Get it.

I'm curious if you've gone ahead with the purchase. If show, what do you think?

I want more Amnesia, personally. Justine was a nice touch, but was considerably shorter than the main game. Custom stories always seem to miss the point; making things to dark, to cramped, to tough, or shoehorn in features that don't do anything for the experience.

Your poll was eaten by the kaernk. And yes. Yes you should. Best horror game I've ever played. Drop in to their website and download the Penumbra series too. Similar mechanics, different setting annd story.

You should buy it, but then play 80s pop music in the background to break some of the tension. That's what I did. :)

It's fucking awesome.

Easily the scariest game I've ever played.

Get it if your computer can run it.
