I feel that if someone is 18 and is in the military they should have the right to legally drink where as someone who is 18 and not in the military should have to wait until they are 21.

If you are old enough to be in the military you should have the right to drink.
Thats actually a pretty good idea, will probably boost recruitment as well.

I say yes, I find it so fucked up that a 18 year old deemed responsible and smart enough to be able to go to war and fight for his/her country, but drinking alcohol is apparently abover there heads. So I say that the drinking age should at least be lowered to 18.
My POV is that if you're old enough to die for your country, you're old enough to drink. Ergo, either lower the drinking age or raise the military age.

Teenagers are stupid. So No.
Most Drunk drivers are over 30.
Most people are foolish from what I have seen. If someone does drink and drive they deserve to be punished at the fullest extent of the law.

I don't think that is enough of a cause to warrant the lowering of the age. Plus the 18 --> go to war argument is iffy because if you're a student you're excused. It then becomes your choice to go and fight, its not like a draft or that they are forcing you to go.
Not anymore. Most assuredly, every time the draft was even considered in recent years, it was under the stipulations that many of the things that people used to dodge the draft would be pulled out, the education and parental responsibility are almost always cut from draft bills.

The truth is, at 18, we can vote, fight for our country, and be tried as an ADULT. That's right, at 18 we're an adult with an EXCEPTION. There is no excuse for it. Our neural pathways are for the most part established (technically, we're fully matured around the age of 25, but those last few years have very little development, and definitely, the three years in between 18 and 21 have little difference in maturation). Naturally, at 24, this doesn't bug me as much, but the fact is, that there was no real, reasonable reason why 21 should be the drinking age. Not one.

I don't honestly see why it should matter. It's alcohol, it really isn't THAT important to be whinging about.

The problem with the US drinking age is that it's years after the driving age. Driving a car always has the potential to be more dangerous to yourself and others. Yet you guys trust your kids in a car before you trust kids to drink. It's illogical.

The reason the drinking age is 21 is that statistically 18-21 year olds take more risks and make more bad decisions. One of the most common of those is drinking and driving.

I personally don't believe drinking should even be legal but alas, to each to his own.

No because 18 year olds probably get the drink easily enough so there's no point in making it easier for them to drink.
Next your going to end up with people around 16 getting drink easier(not that probably don't get it anyway if they want it badly).

(Australia where the age is 18 but nobody seems to care)
I'm 17 right now i have bought alcohol myself many times and i always drink at parties, Its not out of the ordinary for me seeing 12-13 yr olds getting drunk and its commonplace for me to see people up on a mix of booze, weed and pills.

And for the most part everyone turns out ok, some out to uni others into tradie apprentices; in a way i think its good for everyone to get this crap out of the way when they are younger so they aren't getting mixed up with it when it matters.

I actually dont know anybody who has become some dropout junkie as a result of this although i do know people who have become dropouts because of World of Warcraft so thats a bit worrying.

(Also i don't want everyone thinking im some dirty poor druggie kid. i have a job, a car and am headed for university.)

As if having a drinking age has ever stopped anyone from drinking.
Bought to go buy some boozes for my mates birthday. I'm 16. To be fair I'm buying it for my mate who is 18, but he's lost his ID and doesn't have a beard.

Americans, come to Australia and go to the gold coast on new years eve. The thought of lowering the drinking age will never enter your head again.

Yes, it should. The required age is actually 16 here in Holland (for beer and the likes, you need to be 18 for cocktails and other strong drinks), and while that sounds a little ridiculous 21 is just horrible. It literaly means that if you're dutch and have been legally drinking for 4 years, you're still not allowed to have a beer in America anyway. Come on >.>

Also, lowering or raising the required age isn't going to really change anything. The irresponsable drinkers will be able to get beer bought by others anyway.
