It's partly your fault for shopping at Gamestop, but it's mostly their's. Fuck Gamestop.
Gamestop sucked before he entered, so technically it's Gamestops fault for sucking so much.
HATE THE GAMESTOPZ!

OT: No, go back and speak to the manager.
Break his kneecaps if necessary.
But he willingly entered that dark place.
It was to be his final test. He faced the dark side of himself...and failed.

I'm sorry, am i missing something? He offered you your money back. What's the problem here? Just give it back and get your money. Did you expect a brand new copy for free? More money than you payed?
This.

When you have a broken game you get your money back and go somewhere else or buy a different game. Simple really. Don't get your knickers in a twist, man.

So I ask you, members of the Escapist, should I have gotten a used game that "worked" for about 5 minutes? Or in other words, should this have happened?
If they are offering you a full refund I don't really see a problem.

I mean, what else can they do? Maybe they play tested it and it worked just fine.

It's not really there fault they couldn't fix it. Its a game, they don;t have a magic repair all in the back room. There could be a massive fault on the disc.

Once again. If they were offering a full refund for the game what's the problem. If they play tested it and found the problem you wouldn't have purchased it. If they are offering a full refund your still not one penny poorer. As well you have no right to a full brand new version of the game because a used copy didn't work.

It sucks that it happened man, but even if it is a mistake on there behalf they were willing to give you a full refund.

Replace or full refund in cold hard cash. That's more then a lot of places i have been give you.

I'm not sure why you're angry about this. That seems like superb customer service there. They didn't tell you that they cant take it back because you broke it or anything; they are offering you either your money back or upgrading to a new copy of it. Whats the problem?

Wherupon our handy-dandy heavenly chorus looks to the sky, and sings "Steam!".
Find me a copy of Afrika that runs on PC, then find it on Steam and email me, 'kay? Until then read the post.

Edit: Oh yeah and for all of you who say "Go somewhere else." I've been to two Targets, 1 Best Buy, 4 Gamestops, and then until today it's either been impossible for me to pick it up from one of the other Gamestops because of schedule (I checked occasionally on their website) or they didn't have it in stock.

Not only did you buy the game USED, but you also bought it from GameStop... and yet you weren't expecting this?

People saying the store didn't do enough -
Offered full refund. Offered The new version for the difference in price. Perfectly reasonable. You don't go to a car dealership, buy a car for £750, then demand they replace it with the new model that retails at £12,000 as soon as it picks up a fault.
If the difference between the new game and the used was like, 2 pounds/dollars then they probabley coulda just let it slide but, they are by no means obliged to.

Also, people saying they should test the games for at least 15-30 mins... are you fucking kidding me? I used to work at a GAME store, if I play tested every used game we got on a Monday, for 15mins a game, I'd still be working though them on Friday night. Assuming I didn't need to sleep.

Edit: Agree with the guy above ^ 100%

So basically you think Gamestop should either playtest all the copies of games that get traded in for at least 100 hours to make sure everything is working, or just drive to your place and replace your broken copy with a new copy that isn't used without paying for the difference? They can't make miracles.

It's not their fault you went and bought an used copy of a game on a store 1 hour away from you, and you aren't happy with any of the solutions they present you with, which are really fair and reasonable, and could be consulted in their terms of use or by asking an employee before you made the decision to buy it. No one cares it's a 1 hour drive or that it's not worth the gas, it's your decision, and you should know the risks.

And really, everyone knows and is saying that Gamestop is the store of the Devil, but it's not really their fault what happened to you, and they are being really fair in the options they presented to you.

They offered you a refund, or an exchange where you pay the difference.

And the problem is...?

umm sorry to say that is the risk you take with buying used. Used products are usually sold 'as is' meaning the company isn't responsible for it not working properly. That is why they usually sell them cheaper than new. I don't know why you are complaining, one you chose to buy used and from a store an hour away and two he offered you your money back. They don't really need to do anymore then that. Why should they offer you a new one at the used price? If on hour is too far then there had to be some other reason you were out there and I doubt Gamestop is the only store in that area so just wait until you go back that direction to return it.

Dude, u can't expect them to play test every used game that gets turned in. There are too many. It started, and they offered to give u ur money back, what more do you want, a gold plated copy of the game. quit your whining, ur game didn't work, go get ur money back and move on with ur life. But, one question, did u even try the game again to see if it was the game, or jsut a one time glitch? my 360 freezes occasionally, i scream, i curse, but it works fine next time, just saying.

Forgiven yo ... and Amazing Tea ... agreed. I'm sad Game Crazy is through. They seemed more personable ... plus I freelanced their contest posters for kick backs from time to time. And you can always take your business to Amazon if you're willing to shell out shipping charges ... which, if you don't have a vehicle to get to the store anyway, is completely acceptable.

The one thing I love about GS is that you can 'buy' a used game and take it back within a week for your full money back. I think that rule is nationwide.

World-wide.

And this is ridiculous. I don't see what more you can expect from these guys, jesus christ. You can't seriously be mad at them for not having more than one copy of a relatively old, slightly obscure game? The policy stands for everyone. Now, if you WEREN'T offered a refund I would understand your argument, but c'mon man; this is just dumb.

Also, the glitch sounds like it should be fixable. Is your game patched to the latest version? You mention nothing of having tried to restart it, how many times have you tried? same result every time? Have you searched the internet about the problem to check if it's common? and if so, any suggestions? This SHOULD all be quite streamlined on a ps3 title, but you never know, are you constantly connected to the internet?

Then again, it sounds like it could well be a disc read error, in which case you could ask them to try and fix it.

Gamestop doesnt actually check if the game works. From what i hear they just look at the disc to make sure it isnt broken in half or melted.

I really hate the OP, he seems like the kind of guy who would lose 5 dollars from a broken copy and sue the company for 5 billion.

Wow. Whiny.

Buying used is always a risk. My copy of Fable 2 fried my xbox which makes be both loathe that series and preowned.

Just get your money back. They seemed incredibly reasonable when you think that they don't have to grant a returns policy on used items

Honestly it sounds like you were just being a douche. You know how many games they get in there a day? At the most they probably only have time to put it in and see if it starts, if that, not play the whole thing through and check to see if it works perfectly. I was talking to the guy there the other day when I bought Skate 3 and he said that some guy came in a sold a stack of games a few feet tall. All those combined with a 360 trade in were over $700. How long do you think it would take to play through all those games to make sure they work perfect all the way through? What else could they do? They didn't have another copy so it was pay the difference for a new copy or get your money back. It isn't like they can magically make the game work...

They should test them but I doubt the kid working the phones had any power to give you a brand new copy or a discount.

Here is a video that will help you see it from the employees view (seriously it's so funny)

I don't shop at Gamestops. I've heard rumors of their terrible service though. I'd go talk to the manager. If he doesn't take you seriously, pull out the Super Scope.

Protip: Don't buy used games if you turn into a crybaby every time they aren't the quality of new games.
A good rule to live by. They are used games for a reason. If you're lucky the reason is that the guy who bought it originally played it and hated it. If you are unlucky, it is for resale because it is broken.

It is a gamble every time you buy a discounted game.
Talk to the manager about what exactly? The weather? The high price of gas? Or the fact he was offered a refund in whole?
