YES, that should have happened. The guy offered you a refund: what else do you want?

I've worked in a videogames store and they receive hundreds of pre-owned titles every month. To check all of those thoroughly would take a truly epic effort. Instead, they're checked for major scratches upon reception and later quickly popped into a console for 5 minutes to see if they run. That's all you can really ask. Of the few unplayable discs that slip the net at least you get your money back.

Shit happens. Hell, it happens to new games: I bought Bully for the Wii an age ago and it didn't work. The replacement didn't work either. The shop got a whole defective batch. And new games aren't checked at all.

Gamestop doesnt actually check if the game works. From what i hear they just look at the disc to make sure it isnt broken in half or melted.
You say that like it's a bad thing. These guys have to organise, merchandise, and face-off racks of games, do ticket verification, cover the promotional advertising, and process deliveries. Do you honestly think they're going to look for little scratches on all their discs?

Of course not.

The seconds you wasted because of their mistake can never be replaced, as people are paid by the hour and there for paid for their time aswell as service, they should have made a more hospitable gesture, thats my opinion anyway :D
Ah now, there's such a thing as pushing it too far. Retail employees, like all other human beings, are nice until you push them too far. In a retail context, they'll stop dealing with you when you push them. They'll refuse service, and ban people who really take it too far.

I don't understand why you didn't just get a refund, and probably buy the game used instead.

Also I do not understand the hate for GameStop in this thread.

I work nearby GameStop at a Candy Store and I know the GameStop people here very well. They're awesome and to me talk to me a lot of the times on break and such. Sometimes they'd talk me out of purchases that they know are crap and explain why, even if it would have made them a lot of cash, and recommend things that were cheaper but more fun. Heck, one time one of the guys upgraded my purchase from a used Dragons Age to a new Dragons Age collectors edition with no extra charge.

I guess you guys just have it unlucky :p

At least you didn't order a game and get the box, the manual, and a completely different game xD.

I ordered the original Devil May Cry and got the DMC Box/Manual but received Final Fantasy VII Dirge of Cerberus lol. I can kinda get that the disc art might look a lot alike on the two games, its all dark and gothic and such. Trading in FFVII DoC was worth more than DMC so I profited :p.

I'm sorry, am i missing something? He offered you your money back. What's the problem here? Just give it back and get your money. Did you expect a brand new copy for free? More money than you payed?
This. The guy didn't say you were boned, he offered a refund, or the new game. You can't get a steak because your hamburger was undercooked.

I hang out at gamestop a lot due to a couple of my friends working there. Used game inspection involves checking the disc for scratches. No game retailer with a right mind would hire people to thoroughly play-test the games that get traded in.

So, in a nutshell, if you buy a used game, you take the risk of a malfunction, similar to buying a refurbished console. The refund policies are there for that specific reason.

It's partly your fault for shopping at Gamestop, but it's mostly their's. Fuck Gamestop.
Gamestop sucked before he entered, so technically it's Gamestops fault for sucking so much.
HATE THE GAMESTOPZ!

OT: No, go back and speak to the manager.
Break his kneecaps if necessary.
But he willingly entered that dark place.
your right, he should have shopped at someplace wholesome like wallmart
Walmart is wholesome?

OT: I see no fault here. There is always a risk in buying used games over new games. That is why they are a lower price. Plus you can't expect them to play through every single game to make sure they work until the end of the game. If they put it in and the game starts up then they have every right to assume that the game works. If it doesn't than oh-fucking-well. Such is the risk you take for buying used.

It is not a bad thing, it makes sense for them to waste time on something like that, it also saves them money.

OP is a D bag.
They offered you a refund or a replacement, what more would you want or expect?

Then you sent them a rude email after offering you good customer service? Seriously go die.

really my point was that gamestop gets alot of hate but no one seems to have any reason for it especially considering the alternative which really deserves its hate, the closest thing Ive heard to a reason was them not giving enough money for a game
