What would a Team Fortress 3 bring to the table that couldn't be applied by another update to TF2?
A sequel has never meant bigger or better.

TF2 never needs a sequel, they can just keep adding new stuff and modifying the Source engine when needed. Simple as that.

Why would we want a new one? TF2 works just fine :)

edit: though I guess eventually they will have to make a sequel, but for now there is really no need ^^

Updates just refine the game, not change its nature. TF2 is a shallow, dead easy to pick up, visually attractive class-based FPS that works as a good selling point for Orange Box. There's no point in trying to fundamentally change it from those premises, just keep new items coming in now and then to keep the game fresh.

TF3 could go for any number of things, but the most obvious would be to make it fast, intense and deep like all the pre-TF2 games, and include a ton of elements to help players get better and to really function as a team (something that virtually never seems to happen on TF2 public servers). Detailed tutorials that range from easy to extremely challenging (see Quake Live, Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution), visual elements that assist in teamplay by showing things that good teammates would otherwise have called out to you (see Fortress Forever), maybe a personal ladder rank, matchmaking and lobbies for "pick-up teams". The players would have the tools to easily form a team out of willing random people at a given ranking range for the purpose of playing one game, without belonging to a clan. The market focus would be from semi-casuals to tournament players instead of TF2's casual to average.

I don't think there will ever been anyneed for a Tf3 unless they want to completaly reright the class system, I mean all the updates that need to be done are avilble through patches... Although i don't think the console version gets the patches, HAHA. I think Valve has said some where they are pulling out of the console market, if i'm wrong then they need to consider it. Pc gaming is a lot better then console gaming.

I don't think so. TF2 is a brilliant game, and they are constantly fettling it and tweaking it to keep it interesting.

TF3 is an obsolete game at the moment. It doesn't need to be made, and I think Valve would be better off with sticking to TF2 for now. I think that's exactly what they're doing anyway. Or at least, I hope so.

Yes, but not for a long time. People who have 2 won't want a sequel until at least Half Life 3 is released, which by Valve's current schedule, could be years of.

I don't see why they should.
Besides, it would be very bad PR after that whole L4D2 thing.
Not neccesarily. If they were to release it in a few year maybe...

Valve was going to give free dlc to us console players but! microsoft said it they were going to make us pay for it. so valve is going to make one big dlc when all the class updates are done. (from wikipedia)
Dammit, when will they give us a release date?

As of now, hell no.

But if Valve is able to create something that is so awesome (like a serious new version of the source engine that makes it rival the cryengine), it would need a new version of the game to work. I would understand.

Instead of focusing on making a new one (which they don't need anyway, the second is great enough), Valve should try to figure out how to make online play not so buggy and try to bring over some of the DLC to the 360.

Not yet, maybe when they've made a better engine and have made Half-Life 3, but first they should come up with HL2:ep3 (or some HL2 spinoff)...
What do you call the episodes besides spinoffs?
Parts of the game which were made separately, because otherwise the game would become too big, or would take too long to make, or just to make more money by selling them separately.
