Poll: *Sigh* Zelda Skyward Sword isn't exactly Cel-Shaded, and I don't think it should be realistic

Bah, looks good as far as I'm concerned. Realistic can bite me.

Also, Ocarina of Time is by far the worst main series Zelda game. :p

This is not about graphics: this is about art direction.

Personally I thought that the art direction in Twilight Princess was a load of crap (save for Wolf Link, Midna, the shadow portals and the Gorons.) I like this new style much better: it's vibrant, but not over-the-top vibrant (like it was in Wind Waker.) It's realistic, but not overly so (Twilight Princess' flaw.) It just WORKS.

Wow, guys. We're talking about graphics for a Zelda game? A game that relies on gameplay and not graphics? Fine, whatever.

OT: I like the style. I think it looks like it will be the best looking game on the Wii. I like the cell-shaded graphics of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess's dark and gritty style.

Yes! I've been hoping for Zelda to adopt a graphical style like this for years. I just hope that water is one of the things they don't use cel-shading for.

My problem with Skyward sword, is, the graphics are way too similar to Windwaker. I had somewhat hoped for at least twilight princess graphics. Every Zelda console game EXCEPT for Windwaker and Majora's Mask had improved upon the graphics of the game before it, and seeing this as a step backwards in terms of graphics is a little frustrating.
These graphics look so much more detailed than Wind Waker it's not even funny. They also look like a massive improvement on TP's lighting, which gave me massive eye strain most of the time. This is very definitely a completely different style.

However, my actual issue with your post is that Majora's Mask, despite many reused elements, is a massive graphical improvement on OoT, and you only have to look at what a bottle looks like in each of them to see how big a difference there is. Likewise, while its stylistic shift makes direct comparison more difficult, Wind Waker is definitely more graphically impressive than MM, although I personally find MM's actual art design to be superior.

Sorry for the double post, but I take extreme issue with this statement and feel the need to respond to it.

I would actually say that graphics and art style are far more important to Zelda game than to almost anything else. The actual gameplay doesn't change all that much between most entries in the series, and as a result I buy each new Zelda game more to explore new and unexpected environments than for the simple play mechanics. If the environments I explore and the things I encounter in them don't look impressive or interesting, then it really defeats most of the point of even playing an adventure game like Zelda. Honestly, the only game's I can think of which remain equally fun regardless of their graphics are simple puzzle titles like Tetris.

I personally don't really care about the graphical style of Zelda games. I mean, they're freakin' ZELDA GAMES. They're going to be awesome regardless.

I don't choose to do it myself, but it's a mark of respect, and as I understand it is taken differently than Mr. Gates etc.

I generally see him referred to as Mr. Miyamoto or Miyamoto-san. Cliffy B is what the industry calls him, Mr. Miyamoto is the commonly used name. It's merely someone giving the man his respect.
I'm not expert, but isn't the more respectful title sama? Anyway, I've never really seen him referred to like that and I find that it flows poorly in a forum post and stands out like a sore thumb. I figure that the name should do nicely by itself, no reference to the level of personal respect is needed for the discussion.
Sama is an extreme form of respect, however it's not needed. EDIT: It's not needed because it's used for someone higher in standing or position to yourself. San is the equivalent to Mr, so that's what I used. And it's in there because I want it to be in there, because I hold a level of respect for the person I'm talking about, regardless of what kind of bearing it has on the discussion. That's that.

Has anyone here said they want blood and gore? If so, I haven't seen it. So stop acting like that's what we want.
Have I said that? Because I haven't seen that either, so stop acting like such a thing was implied. Darkness and realism doesn't mean blood and gore.

Might be slightly off topic but is it just me or did they finally give Link pants?

I for one definitely like the new art style - while Wind Waker was kinda too kiddish for my liking, this one seems like the perfect balance between nitty gritty and a bit of colour... and I think the results look stunning!

I haven't seen enough of the art to really decide yet, so I'll say yes. It looks kind of blurry, though.

Gameplay>graphics

That is all I have to say about this. I will either like this game or not like it based on how it plays.

If your asking for my opinion on the art style though, I like it.

That's on purpose. Take a look at the trailer, and take a look at the art in my OP.

This and many others in the very similar thread to this that started a few days ago.

Since he wasn't quoted, I thought your post was aimed at me, but I guess it isn't, so fair enough.

Wind-waker graphics + Twilight Princess Character designs = WHERE THE CREATIVITY MIYAMOTO?
But they aren't Wind Waker "graphics", it looks completely different. The art style is nothing like Wind Waker, which was lacking detail and was much more basic than this one. Watching the trailer, it's like a moving painting.

OK, sure the graphics are different I'll give you that but they were inspired partly by WW and Link's design is eerily similar to TP

I'm glad they aren't making it all gritty and "realistic" like Twilight Princess. Don't get me wrong, I fucking love Twilight Princess, but more brown is the last thing we need in video gaming today.
