Poll: *Sigh* Zelda Skyward Sword isn't exactly Cel-Shaded, and I don't think it should be realistic

It looks good, so long as they put the same detail on the environment as they will on the characters. Wind Waker suffered in my eyes because of the jarring contrast between the impeccably realised characters and the bland environments.

Also, Link's pants need to change. Now.

As long as they focus on the environments as much as they do on the caracters, then I don't mind. In my eyes, it was jarring how detailed the characters in Wind Waker were, in contrast to the bland world they lived in.

Also, change Link's pants to how they were. Now.

Stop being so ungrateful people. Sheesh, it's been almost 5 years since Twilight Princess, and after finally seeing a good amount of details about a new game, all you're doing is complaining about how it (kinda) looks "cel-shaded".

Sheesh, it's called style, and frankly I think it works nicely. The Wii isn't capable of super hyper ultra realistic graphics, and to be honest, would anyone want a Zelda game THAT real looking?

The way it's being actually looks to benefit from both worlds. The realistic character design allows it to convey a possibly dark theme (although let's face it, all the games have had some dark elements in the past to some compacity). While the toonish touch allows for range of color and detail that'd otherwise be hard to achieve with the Wii's limited graphics (again, bringing up the fact that no one probably wants an "Uncharted" looking Zelda game).

Also, how does it look like an N64 game? No game on that system ever looked this. It's not blocky, the characters don't look all jagged withy clippy joints and pencil thing fingers.

Im not really sure why I clicked on this Thread, I've never really got into the Zelda games so it doesn't matter to me. But yes, they do seem to be more arty then simply cel-shaded, which I think is good. Its more unique and the world can never have enough uniqueness.

Also that Cezanne painting was on my art history and appreciation paper this year and it just reminded me of how crap I did in it...

I do love the look of this game. It's styles like this that keep a game looking beautiful years and years beyond its prime. Someone mentioned Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner, and that's a great comparison. That game was released seven years ago on the Playstation 2 and its visuals are still gorgeous.

It looks nice, colorful, and fun.

I guess when people see the "colorful" style they associate it with "kiddie" and "casual".
And as we all know anything that resembles those things sucks. Gameplay be damned!
This and there are other people on this thread saying it too. And it angers me.

[rant]Mostly because it's what makes some people think FFIX was the kiddy Final Fantasy when it was far more mature than the other Play Station FF games.[/rant]

The art style looks post-Wind Waker, pre-Twilight Princess... I'm not too big on it... The cartoony look made sense with Wind Waker because you played as a very young link... The dark look of Twilight Princess made sense since you played as teen Link...

Im sure it will look great though when Im actually playing it...

I really like the art style. Its only similarity to Wind Waker is that it is cel-shaded. I feel it is a good style between both Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.

It's not that I didn't like Cel-Shading- I loved Windwaker and Borderlands.

It's not that I need the "realistic" art style- though it was a nice change of pace after Windwaker.

Skyward Sword just doesn't pop out to me. I'm normally pretty easy to please with art styles, but this one looks just "meh." I remember that Miyamoto approved this as one of the first designs proposed. Its not really any style... to me, it looks like Mario more than Zelda. The same type of rendering and such. I would've been fine with pretty much anything OTHER than Skyward Sword's. It may grow on me (and god I hope it does), but I'm still a little wary.

Hey! Link's wearing chainmail in this picture! That's the first indication I've had that he wears any armor at all, besides his shield.

Well, whatever. It's just another Zelda game; you play one you've played em' all. Personally, I still hold to what I said in a previous post: They can do whatever they want with the graphics; I'd like to see some more interesting combat mechanics.

It does look nice though. As far as "impressionistic cel-shading" is concerned, I think Okami did a better job.

That's a good example. Zone of the Enders 2 had a very nice style for it's time, and I can only imagine it'd be mind-blowing if recreated for the PS3 (here's hoping Kojima gets on that after MGS: Rising).

Frankly I like the style, and don't find it 'kiddie'. Of course anyone who uses that phrase is probably below 20 and still in highschool and thinks all their games must be 'hyper real brown simulators of brown'

A "Kiddie" game would be those god-awful One Piece games from the PS2 (when 4kids was still in control) or Bakugon or whatever the hell that abomination fetus of pokemon-meets-yugioh is.

From the picture people have using what little video detail we've seen, Skyward Sword actually looks to evoke the style of the artwork seen in the Ocarina and Majora's Mask games, but with a little emphasis on realistic character designs than the artsy look of those seen in art materials.

I don't want any pussy ass shield weilding motion controls.

If there isn't an option to turn it off a pass for me.

A first since windwaker. Which I actually bought but hated the sailing.

Skyward Sword looks great. It could be the title to truly bring a classic franchise into the next generation, so why all of the bitching?

If you don't like "kiddie" games, go play another derivative brown-gray-black shooter.

Oh, is that the sequel to Unbearably green and red side-scroller? :p
