Eccelston is my favorite but Matt Smith is rapidly becoming a very close second. I know I'm weird but after Tennant lost Rose, the writing made him get on my nerves all the time. His acting was always amazing but the writing killed his version of the Doctor for me.
You mean the way Davies constantly pulled gimmicky bullshit plot contrivances out of his arse and masking them with technobabble just to sort the stupid plot corners he kept writing the characters into, while simultaneously packing the series with so much feelgood gurning and having everyone else obsess over the Doctor to the point where we're almost asked to beleive he's a living god, as Tennant was forced to overplay davies' STUPID "oncoming storm etc." bullshit version of the Doctor?

yeah, that's the only reason I found Tennant's tenure to be somewhat tiresome. The guy can certianly bloody act, but Davies fucked that right up. Apparently Eccleston left due to an unpleasant atmosphere, the blame for which rests somewhat on Davies' shoulders.

Anyway, I voted Smith.
I'm pretty sure that's the plot of every Doctor Who episode, ever, in it's almost 50-year history. So no complaining about it.

Is there an ongoing plot to Dr.Who or are they just doing random stuff every episode?
If there is one, could you explain it to me?
Both. Overarching plot lined usually involving batshit time-travel stuff because Steven Moffat loves it, with each episode having lots of likable minor characters and MORE batshit time-travel stuff, and in the Smith Era, most episodes link together very closely with time-travel batshit and then people die but not really and BLARGGGHH

Tennant. I like his personality and range better then Smith. Smith always looks too happy even he is supposed to be serious. I do like how distance and moody Eccleston played it but at the same time it was a bit too distant for me.

Originally it was Tennant all the way. But recently Smith has endeared himself to me and rewatching series 1 has made me love Eccleston again, as I loved him when he left in 2005.

Eccleston was pretty broody but that was post-time war genocide stuff. Which I actually think he portrayed better than Tennant's almost mopey emo attitude to the whole thing. I loved Eccleston's humour, it was a different style to Tennant's and more closer to Smith's in terms of obvious jokes.

Eccleston example; Rose: 'I heard singing', Eccleston: 'That's right, I sang a song and the Daleks ran away'.
Smith example; Amy: 'So we're in a bubble universe?', Smith: 'Yes! No. But if it helps, yes'

Whereas Tennant's humour came more from talking to himself most of the time.
Tennant examples;
'Is it? Did I? No! Oohh! You are kidding me!'
'Head's full of stuff, need a bigger head!'

Tennant though is the closest the Doctor has been to humanity, in the new series at least. Leaving aside that he turned himself into a human, he was obvious in his desire to save humans. Even marvelling at times how stupid but brilliant humans could be. i.e. Calling humans brilliant for flying a rocket down a gravity funnel to a rock orbiting a black hole.

So I love them all pretty equally but Tennant still has the slight edge.

But Rory still takes the crown!

To anyone who says that they don't like the show as much just because Tennant is gone, grow up. You knew from the beginning he would one day leave, and it isn't like this is a new concept for the show. You're not a Doctor Who fan if you only watched it for Tennant, you're a Tennant fan. I was gonna write a huge, several paragraph long post on what I liked and disliked about each doctor, but I don't really feel that's necessary. I'll just say that Smith's Doctor is my favorite of the new series and leave it at that, I did enjoy both Eccleston's and Tennant's performances, but I feel that Matt Smith is generally a better actor, and they're already doing so much with his character that I don't even know where they're taking him, and that's pretty cool I think. Also, RTD ruined the 10th Doctor, IMO. And he did it very slowly throughout the last two seasons of his run, but very quickly during the specials, and then you heard those stupid little last words of his. I will say that Waters of Mars was a good episode though, and it did explore a very interesting dynamic of the Post-Time War Doctor. So was Midnight, probably the only truly great episode RTD ever did in Doctor Who.

EDIT: I don't care if you liked the Tenth Doctor more than the Eleventh btw, I was only addressing the people who say that the show isn't as worth watching without him. Just clearing that up.

I'm sorry, but asking me to choose between 9 and 10 is just cruel.

But seeing as Chris was my first Doctor...

Mine's has gotta be Tennant. Eccleston introduced me to the Doctor, but Tennant just took it to a whole 'nother level!

I thought Smith was crap in Series 5, but I can forgive that as he was still easing into the role. Not to mention the writing in that series was the worst! But I actually enjoyed the new series. Looks like Matt might have settleed into the role a little and is getting the hang of space/time travel. Not to mention the fact that the writing is a lot better! Neil Gaiman FTW!

Yeah, people usually stick with their first Doctor, so Smith's for me.
The first episode I saw was "Time of Angels." I was hooked and also shitting my pants.

Unrelated side-note, I haven't slept in several months.

I'd say Matt's my favourite.

Tennant just seemed to go moody after Rose left and it wasn't as enjoyable as watching Eccleston fight gas mask zombies or Matt's eccentric character remind me of Tom Baker's performance.

Baker.

Arse to all this revival bulldrek, he's been going since the 60's, dammit.

If you mean post assassination, Smith, Ecclestone, Tennant, Lake.

Mine is Matt Smith. Although I love David Tennant, and Christopher Eccleston had his moments, I just like the 11th's personality better.

So what about you?
I still like Tennant as my all time fave but at the moment i'm loving the new Doctor (Matt Smith) also.

He's also been gone since the 60's stop living in the past man!

No McGann? He was much better than Lake!

Edit: Also, there's no 'e' in Eccleston :)

I like Smith, but there are times when I just wish that Tennant was still the Doctor. He would have done so well these past two seasons.

That was an oblique references to THEGS because only Eccles knows the time.

McGann was good, but if you bring in McGann, you also have to bring in Lumley, Atkinson, Broadbent, Grant and Grant.

Ahh yes, then the melting pot kinda tips over a bit.

But Lumley, Atkinson, Broadbent, Grant and Grant are not canon. So we can remove them from the pot. And then the pot might have something decently flavoured in it. And maybe I should stop the analogy.
