But Lumley, Atkinson, Broadbent, Grant and Grant are not canon. So we can remove them from the pot. And then the pot might have something decently flavoured in it. And maybe I should stop the analogy.
The pot's still half human on its mother's side though. ;)

Matt Smith, hands down. I wasn't overly sure of him right up until about the third-to-last episode of the fifth season (The Lodger, I believe), where telepathy via headbutting officially won me over. Plus, the whole of the sixth season so far has been absolutely fantastic, in my opinion, with "A Good Man Goes to War" being one of my favourite episodes of the revived series (not far after Blink, frankly). Something about the way Rory phrased that question of his...

They are all good Doctor's, although my personal preference is Tennant.

The personalities they have aren't just a random mish-mash, they have those personalities for a reason.

Eccleston was post-Time war and had a dramatic change to the leather jacket wearing Doctor as a result of what he went through. Thus why many people find him hard to get in to but intriguing in how different he is.

Tennant't character was more about seeing the Doctor age and for the various things he's been through begin to take a stronger effect on him. Eventually as his time ends he is so traumitised by the combination of Time War and his own adventures that it is time to change to....

Matt Smith, who is deliberately weird and geeky because The Doctor needed to be different and was separating himself from his previous two evolutions in an effort to forget and move on. The bi-polarity you see in Smith is just that former darkness emerging again, only to be swallowed back down quickly.

Ideally you watch all three and you see the mental and physical progression in relation to the overall story behind him, but naturally every person will find a different favourite doctor.

David Tennant is the best, hands down, and the 10th doctor also had the best personality, then Christopher Eccleston, I don't even like Matt Smith a little bit.

I really enjoyed Eccleston as The Doctor, and Tennant Is a very close second. I just don't see Matt Smith as The Doctor. He just doesn't seem to fit, really.

I think both Tennant and Smith bring their own unique charm to the role. I can't speak much for Eccelston as I only saw maybe 2 or 3 episodes that featured him as the Doctor.

Eccleston all the way. Tennant was great as a character, but he was too foolproof. It got boring eventually, with his popularity I knew he wasn't regenerating anytime soon. He had some good episodes and the whole debacle with the good old Master was Fantastic (with a capital 'f'!). I've yet to see anything of Smith.

Eccleston however was brilliant. It was interesting to see the Doctor in that state; raw from the perils of war with his heart on his sleeve. That and the almost schizophrenic nature of him kept me intrigued.

They're ALL good.
They all have their "moments".
They all have their "qualities".
They all have their "low points".

Why do people make these threads!?

Besides Tom Baker was the best over all, so suck on that!
Quite true, and I'll add that Leela is the best companion, so can we end this now.

Smith is probably my favorite, but Eccleston holds a pretty high place in my esteem.

Matt Smith just FEELS like the Doctor. He's my first, so that might have a bit to do with it, but I honestly think he's got a really great handle on what it means to be the Doctor. It's a little bit of Tennant's zaniness crossed with a dash of Eccleston's calm control.

Huh, I think I'd go for the only poll option you didn't include - I prefer David Tennant, and quite liked Chistopher Eccleston. I don't like Matt Smith at all.

Of course, nobody can do the Doctor better than Tom Baker. He's the definitive Doctor.

Tennant was easily the best actor, with Eccleston in a close second, but I prefer Matt Smith's doctor to David Tennant's doctor. I love the way Matt Smith's doctor is so easily pleased by simple things, and comes across as a bit more eccentric.

I am a Matt Smith fan.

Though it was weird seeing the change from David to Matt, because it was new. I personally felt the same way about the change from Chris to David also, which was a much bigger step than David to Matt I think.

I do like the more "air head" doctor that Matt plays, he feels a lot more random.

Tennant for me. Eccleston was a good first doctor (for the reboot). Eccleston got me interested, but Tennant got me hooked. Tennant's Doctor just made me have no idea what he was going to do next like pulling out 3D glasses. Granted that is mostly the writing, but Tennant pulled it off like it was something he did every day. Smith is a close second though.

I look at each of the doctors are fundamentally different entities- like going into a movie adaptation of a book. If you're going to enjoy the show in the long haul, you need to accept each one on its own terms.

I got hooked on the show via Eccelston, and Tennant was spectacular, and I 'love' me some Smith. If I had to pick a favorite, I'd say Smith, but that may just be because he's the one driving the TARDIS at the moment (or being driven by... Sexy). He has that really infectious charm and a quasi-autistic professor getup that I find incredibly amusing.

Christopher Eccleston should of had another series. I was a badass and got things done. Plus he wore black. Black is cool. >:)
