I don't smoke (and have no intention of starting any time soon) but I have no problem with other people smoking and I don't think any less of them for it.

I personally don't understand where smoking suddenly got this new found stigma from, it's always had the health hazards attached but there was once a day where smoking a cigar told everyone that you were manly/cool/in posession of a kick ass moustache and pocket watch.

What happened to the days when every street corner would have a 12 year old lighting up a cigerette?

I smoke, i don't find it necisserily cool i just like it.
I never smell bad from smoking and i dont have any marks to show i smoke, for now.
I have vowed i will stop before i am 20 though, 6 more years to go.

I'm not against the very process of smoking, as long as it releases perfume in the air and the cigarettes on the ground instantly turn into flower patches. But having someone sit next to me in a restaurant smoking(which is finally forbidden to do indoors in my country) that piece of shit and turning a nice meal into a gasp for fresh air is definitely NOT COOL!. I don't mind people smoking outside, it's like complaining about the cars releasing exhaust and I don't really care about their health (ok that was harsh but I mean if they like it why not do it). In short, they stay out of my lungs, and I keep my complaints out of their ears.

Well I am a smoker, but I still think that smoking is uncool, because you don't gain anything from it sure some think you are cool, but if they didn't like you than sure as hell even after you star smoking they won't.

Well people might see it like: "woah, that guy doesn't care if he dies younger or not, he's a daredevil!" Which add to the coolness factor somewhat.
Of course this only works for certain people, others find it pathetic, wannabe, or just plain don't care if you do or don't.

I don't see how damaging your body can be deemed cool. Most smokers only do it originally from peer-pressure then can't get out of it. I have nothing against smokers, it's their choice, it's just not the smartest thing to do if you want to look after your body.

I don't think it should be in a position to be judged on 'cool or uncool' to be honest. Of course many young teens think it will boost their reputation and stuff, but as you get older it becomes less of an issue.

I'm not a smoker, but I tend to have a cigarette when I'm drunk, as do many, and social status are not the reason for this. It's just.... I dunno, why do so many people smoke only when they're drunk?

But yeah, you'll never stop kids thinking it's cool, because it's an adult thing to do, and the more adult you seem as a child, the cooler you think you are. As much as it's drilled into them that it's addictive, money consuming and unhealthy, and smelly, and makes you look like you smell, and is a major inconvenience for those around you, and cuts dow- Huh? Oh. Yeah. Right.

Smoking was a direct cause of my Grandfather's death (Lung Cancer), and numerous problems with other members of my family.

I flat out don't understand how people will start smoking knowing the risks involved now. I just don't understand it. It's not cool. I don't get it.

Now, I don't HATE people who smoke, that would be dumb. But I don't get it.

Maybe if you were a vampire hunter and you smoked a cigarette while killing three vampires at the same time then yeah that would be cool, but that's the only situation that I can think of where it would be. It's definitely not sexy, I can tell you that much.

in another point... when i see a really pretty pretty girl smoke... that is kind of a turn off to me... in one or two dates this has happen to me... everything is doing well, we walk out the(movies, dinner, party) and as we are going to my car she put a cigarette in her mouth and thats all for me :S.
I don't like the smell and i really really hate the people that smoke just because everybody else is doing it

Oddly it's the opposite for me, I can't stand being around guys who hate smoking. I can be with guys who just don't care but overall smoking is like drinking or any form of hobby. It makes sense non smokers would want a non smoker. Just how a guy who never drinks prolly dosn't want the girl who takes shots every weekend.

Though I will say the only perk of being a smoker is when everyone treats smokers like second class citizens at least smokers band together...Even if it is huddled together in a alleyway behind work.

P.S A quick note, Caffeine can cause a lot of health issues and could have a impact on your body later on in life. Yet I never see any anti mountain dew lobby's odd.

I smoke because I like it. It makes me feel good and feeling good makes me happy. Sure its bad for me, so what? Drinking is bad for the liver, fast food is bad for the heart, staring at a computer screen is bad for the eyes. Why is there no crusade to ban those things? I am so sick of this anti-smoking jihad and self hating smokers always lecturing me about the dangers of smoking. You don't want me to smoke in restaurants or at the workplace, fair enough, I'll give you that. But how can you go to a bar or pub and pump toxin into your liver and then have the audacity to complain about your lungs. The people who like to tell other people what to do have found a socially acceptable way to it.

I imagine so, otherwise why would people do it? Or at least start it. Sure, you may come to enjoy it, but you probably started it because you had friends who were doing it and you took it up either out of curiosity or the desire to fit in and look mature or badass or cool or whatever.

Or that's at least how most the people I know started. It's pleasurable and self destructive, it makes a statement and, for now at least, it's a pretty cool one. I don't smoke. I used to do the 'smoke when I drink' deal, but got over it. Cigarettes are expensive and ruin the taste of a good beer.
