Personally, It depends on the person's choice. If he wants to smoke even if he knows the risks of smoking. Let him smoke. Vice-Versa.

Note* I say the word risk, because the word danger means "likely" death. Risk is actually more accurate.

(Sigh). This is why I putted Risk. When you smoke, you just have a bigger risk to have cancer or other problems. It does not mean that you will ABSOLUTLY get cancer. Just higher risk.

Let's take for exemple alchohol.

-It can damage your liver.
-It can increase the chance of an accident on the roads.
-People do a lot of stupid things, while drunk. (sex videos, hit someone, ruin a mariage)
-bla bla bla you get the picture.

Yet, a lot of people are drinking during a party. I'm pretty sure that a lot of people drink during social event. When you take a sip, do you worrie about your liver? Did you signed your death contract?

Yes, I'm conscient on a hole, cigarrettes is worst than alchohol. But, think about the choice aspect.

I've always had a problem with people smoking around me. Can't even get near the stuff. Plus half my family smokes, and I've lost my aunt, uncle, grandma and grandpa on my dad's side to smoking related deaths( dont remember exactly what it was) Plus one of my ex's smoked. Ugh, she smelled like some dark, dirty bar everytime I got near her.

Why not show some dead people via a drunk driving incident every time you take a drink, why not show some little kid being run over by a car at night on your dashboard, why not show all the people that will be forced to move away from the coast and all the polar bears and other such arctic animals dead every time you start you car. Why not fucking show a picture of all the slave children in Africa and south America forced to make your designer shoes every time you put them on, or the possibilities of what slashing your throat would look like every time you pick up a knife. How about all the genocides that have happened during your life that you didn't give a fuck about.

and btw "newer, more innocent smokers may not understand the risks" If a person living in western society doesn't understand that breathing in ash will harm you, well... fuck... I find it difficult to believe someone is that stupid, and if so I don't feel so bad if they die prematurely...

Healthy paranoia has kept me from smoking and drinking as I make sure I'm in top physical health all the time so I can avoid any attempt on my life. Its also nice to know I can kick most chavs ass's in a one on one fight because while they may perceive themselves as cool the reality is that they look very uncool when there coughing and wheezing whenever they try and run for a period of time.

And among my friends we see smoking as a stupid and uncool thing and were trying to pressure the one person who does smoke in to quitting it. Drinking however is extremely cool and I do get laughed at for staying sober most of the time

The whole problem with the thread is that Smoking is cool primarily BECAUSE it kills you; and there's nothing quite as cool as dying before your time.

All my friends smoke - not one of them started because it was considered "cool". I started when I was 14, because I recalled once asking my mum why she smoked, and she explained it was because it calmed her nerves. At that point in my life, something to calm my nerves, that wasn't a sedative or beta blocker with horrible side-effects such as suicidal tendencies, was very much needed.

I didn't stop smoking, and have not stopped yet. Yes, quitting would possibly add years to my life - but it may not at all. As I have no desire to stop yet, I have no willpower to do so either. When I do, I will quit. If I do.

Growing up with chain smoking parents, I have always been unable to smell smoke. I imagine it does not smell incredibly attractive, luckily - there are many ways to combat the smell. Oust for the house, shampoos, deodorants, good oral hygeine etc. Considering a family member has no idea I smoke, and has no suspicions - I would say these are working fairly well.

Health - meh. Last check up: in good physical health. My 60 year old mother, with a 30 year long habit - also good physical health.

Sex appeal? HAHAHAHAHA. Really couldn't care less about that.

Firstly, as much as I admire your willingness to remove yourself from the gene pool once you have fucked your life over royally, this isn't the case with the vast majority of smokers. I do not, in fact, wave my hand in front of my nose when I see a smoker in the distance. I do, however, cough when there's a crowd of smokers lighting up outside an establishment because they can't smoke indoors. I don't like the smell of smoke, which is why I don't smoke. I'm glad to here you smoke in private and throw your butts away, but once again, take a peek outside your nicotine stained abode and look at all the butts thrown in the street. I'm not sure where 21st Century accommodations come into this, there's no invention that stops me from smelling your goddamn cigarettes anytime I walk past a smoker. However, you are addicted to cigarettes, and it would be very unpleasant to break the habit. Seems you need
to "Grow some fucking balls" and quit smoking.

Finally, if you get behind the wheel of a car drunk, maybe you SHOULD see what would happen. However, you don't always drive after you drink, but if you buy a pack of cigarettes, you're going to smoke them. I don't think you'll be using them as pipe cleaners. Last time I checked, every time you start your car, a polar bear doesn't keel over and die. However, each time you take a puff, lung cells DO die. That's what I like to call a 'direct correlation'.

And you find it hard to believe people don't know the dangers of smoking? You're probably right, they do all those anti-smoking programs just for kicks.

Pull your head out of your ass and look around. Chances are, you'll find other people. Please factor them into your smoky little world.

smoking is culturally cool, for the most part when you see a fictional character smoke they will be bad ass for the most part.


I smoke, does it make me cool? no. I do however like my friends who smoke consideribly more than the ones who never ever smoke because they seem to be a lot more laid back than the non-smokers who seem to be a lot more uptight health freaks.

also all the people who are like "makes you smell like death"...does it? I mean I find the smell of tobacco very aromatic and pleasurable. to be honest I think it just has a strong scent and you use that to bully them about whether you actually find the aroma offensive or not.

Yeah why do you have to say risk instead of killing yourself? I don't get why specificity is nessicary in a discussion about if cigarettes are cool. Even when you change the words the meaning is the same. I was making a conscious decision not to pontificate.

Some people look totally badass when smoking. But, I do think the people who look most awesome are those who aren't smoking to look badass, it just enhances the badassery. Example: Don Draper from "Mad Men." He just wouldn't be as awesome without a cigarette and a glass of whiskey.
